Spider-Man 7/25

Loved the first episode, the second episode was decent. Besides some anime, I can't think of action animation better than what I'm seeing in Spider-man. It's true the backgrounds suck, but I never imagined they'd actually be able to emulate the action from the Spider-man comic in a movie or cartoon.

MJ's line about being friends forever contradicts the movie continuity. I don't mind them distancing themselves from the movie, but they're not following the comic and they never really setup their own world. I don't mind, it's just weird.

Jackskeleton 07-26-03 01:15 AM

You have to realize that the cartoon, the old cartoon, the old jap show, the film, the comics(oh man, how the comics screw things up) all contradict continuity. you have to take each form as a different telling of the spider man legend. hell, I can't even count how many times spiderman's character has been changed when it comes to different writers. so take all of it as a grain of salt and just know the basics and enjoy it from thee.

caught the last 10 mintues of this tonite which is a coincidence since it will be the last 10 minutes I catch of this drek..

Chew 07-26-03 10:06 AM

Loved the "Sunnydale" line. A nice tip-o-the-hat to Buffy.

Iron_Giant 07-26-03 04:26 PM

Was watching Monk, so I missed Spiderman.

Will record to the PC on Sunday at 2:30am to 3:30am and then watch later Sunday afternoon.

Hokeyboy 07-26-03 07:16 PM

I've given the show several episodes to win me over.

It's failed, alas. I'm taking it off the TIVO. The voicework is terrible and the storylines....ecch.

Chew 07-26-03 09:33 PM

I guess when I'm comparing this to the only other comic-based 'toon currently running new episodes, Teen Titans, this one doesn't seem nearly as bad. :)

Blaster1 07-26-03 09:53 PM

This has no continuity from episode to episode. In the first episode MJ walked away mad when she saw Peter kissing that woman at the news station and the second episode they acted like it never happened.

devilshalo 07-27-03 12:00 AM

The animation still bothers me... I think Hot Wheels does a much better job. And knowing that Teen Titans are aimed at kids, I'm able to enjoy that show a lot more.

Draven 07-27-03 04:12 PM

Did everyone recognize James Marsters as the voice of the jetpack guy? My wife noticed that.

I'm really enjoying the show. The animation of Spiderman in action is unbelievably good at times and I like how they use his webbing.

About continuity, I think MTV is airing the episodes out of order. The guy Peter talked to in his lab class in the second episode tonight became the villian in the first episode they showed of the show.

Blaster1 07-27-03 04:59 PM

Yeah, I thought that was him, but I wasn't sure. I can't stand when networks show shows out of order. What is the point?

agree with you there. the moving looks a bit to stiff and seeing NY in a totally "bright color" look it makes you feel odd about it.

Yeah, I thought that was him too and I was thinking they were running them out of order, especially since we didn't see any continuity in th MJ/PP relationship, but then we saw the pony tailed chick from the TV station in this episode as well, thus really throwing a bone in the continuity machine in trying to figure out where the hell this episode belongs.

Just when I think this series isn't good, I recall the days of Spider Man and His Amazing Friends or I will pop in one of my Buena Vista DVD collections of Spider Man and realize this is the best Spider Man on TV ever.

Jackskeleton 07-27-03 06:56 PM

the order does indeed look like it's out of order. seems I'll have to rename the files when they all come out. ;)

100% agree with what you said, but I still enjoy the last Spider Man TV show.

The 90's Spiderman cartoon was very good, IMO. Better than this one, although I like the fact that people die in this cartoon.

I don't know if this is the episode "Head Over Heels" with the stalker that was in love with Spidey, but did anyone else notice the magically moving eyebrow stud? The freaky girl starts out with a stud in her left eyebrow, then she has Peter over her place to study and gets her brain fried by the crock pot on her head, which causes a trickle of blood from her left nostril. The next scene where Spidey is talking to her from the scrapbook, the stud and blood are in her right eyebrow/nostril. I didn't know if this was supposed to be a Dr. Jekyl/Ms. Hyde thing, or if they just screwed up with the animation. I also thought she may have been looking at her reflection in the mirror, but there wasn't a mirror anywhere else in the room. Anyone else notice this?

Jackskeleton 07-28-03 10:15 PM

It was screwed animation. I noticed that to.

PacMan2006 07-29-03 01:53 AM

Well, the episodes thus far have been aired out of order. How else do you explain how Max (the dude who
Spoiler:
turns into Electro
in the first episode was buying a non-dairy latte in this episode?

Jbrobson 07-29-03 11:02 AM
