Re: Reno 911 -- Discussion Thread

The revival actually takes advantage of Quibi’s turnstyle technology in Episode 6: Big Mike’s Rocket Rascal. During the Big Mike segment when viewed in landscape, it looks like a standard widecreen TV show. But turn it to portrait and it becomes an “Instagram” style livefeed complete with header, comments, and reactions. Even the camera and angle changes from the “documentary crew” in landscape to the “cell phone” in portrait.

👍

Wait until all the Reno 911 episodes are up, since they're being released daily.

Also, wait until you can view on a TV, if that's something you'd like.

When will that be?

Phone is fine.

For Paramount+

“Reno: 911! The Hunt for QAnon” is described as a “supersized event” based on the original comedy series. “Reno: 911” was recently revived as a short-form series for Quibi, receiving two 2020 Emmy nominations.

Re: Reno 911 -- Discussion Thread

After buying the majority of Quibi series when the late streaming platform shut down, Roku may now be extending the life of shows that got nominated for an Emmy. As Variety reveals exclusively, Roku is very interested in giving the Quibi shows – now branded Roku Originals – another chance.

With that decision, Reno 911! gets yet another shot on screens, after being revived for Season 7 at Quibi eleven years after it was canceled at Comedy Central. The Emmy-nominated comedy will also reportedly get a new format: back in Quibi, the idea was to offer "quick bites," meaning their content consisted in 5 to 10-minute episodes. Now, on top of bringing Reno 911! back to Season 8, Roku has ordered full, 30-minute episodes.

So Paramount+ for the TV movie, and Roku Channel for the new episodes?

And the classic episodes are on HBO Max. This show is all over the place.

Re: Reno 911 -- Discussion Thread

I've been watching the original CC run on HBO Max, and for at least the early seasons, they've cropped the original 4:3 down to 16:9 to fill the screen, leading to some horribly framed shots. It's not like Reno 911 was ever the most beautifully shot show, but the cropping was so lazy, they didn't bother re-doing the on-screen text that appears at the bottom of the screen to identify locations, time, and officer names, so the cropping in those scenes is always the bottom of the 4:3 image, often cutting off at least the top of people's heads. Sometimes the crop pans up after the text disappears, but it leads to a lot of awkward shots. Not to mention blowing up an SD image makes it look very soft.

It's still fun to watch, but I guess there's not the uproar like when The Simpsons early seasons were cropped on FXX and Disney+ originally. Some of the cropped episodes are up on CC's Youtube channel, if one wants an example. The first briefing room scene for an episode is always a big offender.

It's also fun to watch and see a lot of actors/comedians playing bit parts that went on to become bigger stars. For example, Charlie Day and his wife Mary Elizabeth Ellis show up as trailer trash brother and sister with too close of a relationship.

Reno’s finest are back.

Reno 911! Defunded is set to launch 11 episodes, 30-minutes long on the Roku Channel on Friday, February 25. The original cast is returning and will be joined by guest stars Jamie Lee Curtis, “Weird Al” Yankovic and George Lopez.

“After the defunding, they said nothing would feel that different,” Lt. Jim Dangle (Thomas Lennon) says as the trailer begins, but clearly it does, not just when it comes to what he’s wearing (and not wearing) or standing behind but also in the restrooms.

It’s 2022. Crime is on the rise, but one city is never short on heroes. Reno’s finest are back and this time they’re facing their biggest challenge yet –they’ve been defunded! No budget. No back-up. No problem.

Did anybody else watch The Hunt for QAnon? It had some funny bits, especially Patton Oswalt, but it hammered home the idea that this works best as an episodic format.

Keep an eye out for a cameo by

Seemed funny downloading the Roku Channel on a Fire Stick. But I'll give it a shot.
