Re: Anyone see the season premiere of Reno 911?

I gotta say...I thought Mary Birdsong was a headscratcher of an addition to this show and I never quite understood the appeal of Carlos Alazraqui but the loss of Wendi McLendon-Covey might just be too much to handle.

I'll still watch of course. I love the others (Robert Ben Garant being on the bottom of that totem pole) and will follow their exploits for as long as the show airs. I just can't understand who in their right mind thought letting go of ANY of the original women was a good idea.

I forgot to change my DTV DVR from the Comedy Central to Comedy Central HD but I caught the re-air.

Its in FULL HD!

Flipped between the HD and SD channels and the SD channel is cropped on the sides to fit 4x3. The HD has the entire proper frame which adds some sight gags.

I love the PSA for the Suicide Prevention website. Crosswords and knitting will definitely keep me from killing myself.

I just watched the new episode and it is not bad, but Clemmie will be missed. Just last week I watched the episode where Dangle and Clemmie went to a Halloween party and the people thought that they were disguised and gay copy and slutty cop.

I thought the premiere was terrible. Slow and dull, mild chuckles instead of laughs. How could they get rid of Clemmie? It makes no sense.

someone is a UCB fan!

Ian Robers was & will be hilarious on this show. He is one of the most talented improv comedians, I've seen him (UCB) live many times and he is just so quick and never fumbles for something funny to say. I hate to say it but the weight he put on makes his character even funnier.

Jo Lo Truglio is always funny, and it'll be nice to see him in something for more than 2 mintues. His scene in Wet Hot American Summer still make me pee my pants. Frank Rizzo??? Everytime I hear it I think of The Jerky Boys.

I will miss Wendi, her character was always hilarous...though I didn't want to see any of them go.

For more STATE alumni check out PARTY DOWN on Starz....Ken Marino is in it...and its actually funny.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for Zombies and/or Time Machines. Its a big problem.

ditto.

I read this thread before I watched the premiere and so I knew going in that some of the actors had been let go for no apparent reason. Knowing that, when the remaining characters couldn't remember the lost character's names or what happened to them it kind of came off as an asshole move.

Re: Anyone see the season premiere of Reno 911?

Never caught onto the show until it hit reruns because its the kind of predictable comedy show that is probably best at 12 to 1 AM when you are winding down.

Really strange that they would, after all these years, ax several actors and not say why (though the shows explanation, or non-explanation, was funny). Agree, I hated Birdsong and her addition/character was a puzzler, never funny, never seemed to do much so I'm glad she's gone. Shame about the others.

No shit. I didnt recognize him for a long while, then his voice clued me in, and I kept looking to see if it was a fat suit which it doesnt appear to be. Really strange. Just a year or two ago he looked fit as always but now he's turned into a walrus. Oh well, it works as he certainly looks like a cop.

I think Ian Roberts is like Jon Favreau in that way, he is either in incredible shape, or fat. They also both seem to pull it off and put it on incredibly fast.

CC is running a marathon on New Years Eve with new interstitials.
https://ew.com/tv/2018/12/22/reno-91...new-years-eve/

From 9 a.m. ET on Dec. 31 to 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, Comedy Central will air a marathon of the winning COPS!-esque mockumentary series that turned the city’s finest into the city’s most foolish. During the marathon, stars/creators Thomas Lennon (Lt. Jim Dangle), Robert Ben Garant (Deputy Travis Junior), and Kerri Kenney-Silver (Deputy Trudy Wiegel), along with Carlos Alazraqui (Deputy Sergeant Class III James Oswaldo Garcia) will be seen in a half-dozen interstitials that will air during the 37-episode blowout.
Here's 3 of the new PSAs:

Re: Reno 911 -- Discussion Thread

The classic Comedy Central series “Reno 911!” is being revived at Quibi for a seventh season.

The original series ran from 2003 to 2009. Original series creators and cast members Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, and Kerri Kenney-Silver are attached to write and star in the new season. Peter Principato of Artists First will executive produce the revived series along with Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Jersey Television. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. Comedy Central Productions, Comedy Central’s new studio-production arm, will produce.

“’Reno 911!’ holds a special place in our hearts, and it will be a delight to get the original cast back together for ‘re-boot goofin,'” Lennon said. “Hopefully Nick Swardson can still roller skate. Quibi’s short format seems custom made for our show.”

The mockumentary-style show parodied the popular series “Cops” and followed the misadventures of a group of deputies working for the Reno Sheriff’s Department. “Reno 911!” was unique in that most of the dialogue was unscripted, with the cast frequently improvising their lines. A feature film, “Reno 911!: Miami,” was released in 2007.

“We are very excited to partner with Ben, Kerri and Tom, three of the most gifted multi-hyphenates in comedy, to bring more of their iconic series ‘Reno 911!’ to the world,” said Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, Comedy Central’s co-heads of original content. “Fans demanded this for a long time and Comedy Central Productions and Quibi are thrilled to help answer that kind of 911 call.”

It was previously announced that Lennon had set up the comedy series “Winos” at Quibi. That show follows a misguided entrepreneur (Lennon) who moves from Silicon Valley to Napa Valley and tries to turn a run-down vineyard into a success.

Quibi is set to launch in April 2020. The service will offer subscribers access to original short-form content in a mobile-only viewing experience. The service will have two pricing tiers at launch. The first will cost $4.99 with one pre-roll ad before each video segment — a 10-second ad if the video is less than 5 minutes and a 15-second ad for 5-10 minute videos. The ad-free option will cost $7.99

“I couldn’t say it better than Sarah and Jonas, and I for one will sleep soundly knowing ‘Reno 911!’ is back on the beat keeping our streets safe once again,” said Doug Herzog of Quibi.

Lennon is repped by UTA, Artists First, and Rogers & Cowan. Garant is repped by UTA and Artists First. Kenney-Silver is repped by Gersh and Artists First. Lennon, Garant and Kenney-Silver are all repped by Jackoway Tyerman. DeVito is repped by CAA and Behr Abramson Levy, Stan Rosenfield & Associates. Shamberg and Sher are repped by CAA and Gang Tyre.

So basically instead of 30 minute episodes, they're going to release each individual vignette/skit as its own "short-form" episode.

So something like this would be an episode:

dex14 12-06-19 12:25 PM

Re: Reno 911 -- Discussion Thread

And you'll have to pay for it!

This service sounds dumb if they won't have a fully ad supported free version. Who the fuck is going to pay $4.99 a month for 10 minutes or less episodes of things when that is practically what Disney+ charges.

Quibi said they are working on Chromecast and Apple Air Play support to be able to watch it on TV.

There's a free 3 month free trial, but it ends tomorrow.

So I went to watch the first episode yesterday. I downloaded the Qubi app, signed up for the 90 day free trial (ad free tier), found the show, started it, looked for the Chromecast button..... and nothing. There's no Chromecast. There's no Airplay on iPhone either. You can't even mirror your screen. Qubi apparently deliberately restricted the viewing to phone only, which is a dumb idea to begin with, but is even dumber when their original "intended audience," i.e. commuters, doesn't exist at the moment because everyone is stuck at home. They're apparently working on adding Chromecast and Airplay to the app, although it's been three weeks since they announced that.
https://www.slashfilm.com/quibi-on-tv/

So now I'm torn between watching the show on my tiny phone screen in the interim, or just waiting until I can watch it on my TV screen. I'm leaning towards the latter.

You sound like you're shocked by this news. It's been known since the start that Quibi was a mobile only app. As Tom said, the Quibi thread talks about it more and that's why some here refuse to use it.

I didn't really read or keep up on the Quibi thread or general news. I knew the app was only available on phones, but I had somehow missed that they weren't allowing Chromecast or Airplay, or even screen mirroring. It did catch me by surprise, because those are bog standard features for a streaming video app.

Wait until all the Reno 911 episodes are up, since they're being released daily.

Also, wait until you can view on a TV, if that's something you'd like.
