The 2003 Emmy nominations are being presented right now. I don't have access to the live presentation and am dying to know who's being picked.

LOS ANGELES (AP) The funeral home drama Six Feet Under received a leading 16 Emmy nominations Thursday, followed by three-time best drama winner The West Wing with 15. The Sopranos, back in contention after missing out on last year's awards because it didn't air during the eligibility period, received 13 nominations, along with the comedies Everybody Loves Raymond and Sex and the City. Law & Order missed out on its bid to set a record, failing to receive the best drama series nod that would have given it 12 consecutive best series nominations. It's tied for the record with Cheers and M-A-S-H. In addition to a best drama series bid, Six Feet Under also earned nominations for cast members Frances Conroy as best actress and Peter Krause as best actor. Other contenders for best drama series are The Sopranos, The West Wing, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and 24. Nominees for best comedy series are Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Will & Grace and last year's winner, Friends. Jennifer Aniston, winner of last year's best comedy series actress award, received another nomination in the category this year. Her competition includes Patricia Heaton of Everybody Loves Raymond, Jane Kaczmarek of Malcom in the Middle, Debra Messing of Will & Grace and Sarah Jessica Parker of Sex and the City. Another member of the Friends cast, Matt LeBlanc, will be up again for the best comedy series trophy he missed out on last year. Other nominees are Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bernie Mac of The Bernie Mac Show, Eric McCormack of Will & Grace and last year's winner, Ray Romano of Everybody Loves Raymond. Other actresses nominated in the drama series category are Edie Falco of The Sopranos, Jennifer Garner of Alias, Marg Helgenberger of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Allison Janney of The West Wing, who took home the trophy last year. In addition to Krause, a drama series acting bid went to last year's surprise winner, Michael Chiklis of The Shield, who received the first such honor for a basic cable show. Other nominees are James Gandolfini of The Sopranos, Martin Sheen of The West Wing and Kiefer Sutherland of 24. |
No surprises. I don't watch most of the shows that earned nominations in the major categories. Just CSI, West Wing, Sopranos, and Sex & The City.
Shame on the academy for not selecting That 70s Show as a comedy series nominee. That is criminal. Friends is so very tired. Of the episodes I have seen, W&G, CYU, and ELR has never garnered a laugh from me. |

Hopefully Six Feet Under will win a few awards this year. Glad to see it got 16 noms. I was really surprised to see Alias pick up several nominations, hopefully this can translate into some better ratings. Also psyched to see Bernie Mac pick up a nomination, it would be great if he walked away with the award, that man's just hilarious.

I don't watch most of these shows either - Friends is the only one I watch consistently; CSI sporadically and The Sopranos once it comes out on DVD. I understand these shows are critical/fan darlings, but they need to find some new blood - there are several other excellent shows out there in tv land. They might as well just show last year's ceremony again. |

why is it that Jane Kaczmarek gets all the props for Malcom in the Middle when Brian Cranston is infinately better as Malcom's dad.
Also, same goes for Marg Helgenberger. I like her on CSI, but William Peterson does a much better job. |

Agreed. Pardon the pun, but this category is a joke. But never had a laugh from <I>Curb Your Enthusiasm</I>? Good God, man - what is wrong with you? :) The academy's fascination with mainstream popular shows like <I>CSI</I> and <I>24</I> instead of higher quality like <I>The Shield</I> or <I>The Wire</I> is pretty frustrating. I'm glad to see some great shows on the list, but their nominations just seem to be default selections with no real effort made on finding the best of the best. das |

Two items that struck me: Outstanding Main Title Theme Music Boomtown Everwood Miracles Monk And, the five Special Effects nominees: Buffy ("Chosen"), Enterprise ("Dead Stop"), Enterprise ("The Crossing"), Enterprise ("The Expanse"), and Firefly ("Serenity"). UPN has four of the five. I'll bet Fox wins. ;) |
Almost as bad as the nonsense that was their comedy nominations is the omission of Boomtown from the best drama list and Neal McDonough from the best supporting actor list.
I still don't get the fascination with Six Feet Under. I watched the whole first season and thought is was okay, but the academy treats like the greatest thing that ever happened to television. Unless it has really improved since then, I can only -ohbfrank-. |
Well, take my opinions for what they're worth, but it's either the best or the second best show on all of television IMO, and I'm certainly not one to simply go along with the Academy. Last season, I didn't see anything better, and I watched quite a bit.

i've only seen a couple of episodes of 6 feet and i wasn't impressed. maybe i didnt give it enough time.
that being said, the critic on CNN claimed the real race was between 24 and sapranos |

I can't believe Boomtown got shutout of the nominations. I for one can't wait for the DVD release of the first season. Are you listening NBC??? They should follow the example set by 24 and The Shield if they want to build up the ratings for this show. Circuit City has a High Def promo for Boomtown that is just incredible in the picture and sound quality.

The thing about Six Feet Under is that I don't really enjoy it all that much as I am in the process of watching the episodes, but it's upon reflection of each episode that it becomes more entertaining and thought provoking. But I don't consider it the creme de la creme, but it'd make my top 10 shows currently on TV, I guess.
Like, I really enjoy most of "Curb Your Enthusiam" while I'm watching it, and some of the bits are fun to run back through my head as well. |
If they're not going to nominate The Shield for writing and not going to nominate The Wire AT ALL, they're just wasting my time over at that there TeeVee Acadamee.

The Emmys really need to shake it up. I get sick and tired of seeing the same thing every year. Other than the HBO shows I hardly watch anything else nominated. But I have watched atleast some episodes of those shows and have to say that I have seen better. (That 70s show is easily funnier than any of the comedy nominees) |

I think that Six Feet Under is over-rated as well. I do watch it, but I don't see why it is so critically acclaimed. I would prefer Krause back on Sports Night.

It does seem like the Emmys nominate the exact same shows every year. At least they gave some love to Curb Your Enthusiasm and Alias. Frankly, I would've preferred seeing Alias get nominated for Best Drama Series over 24. The former had a much better 2nd season IMO.
I'd normally be pissed about Buffy getting only one nod(and in the FX category at that), but honestly, its final year was also its worst ever. Now Angel on the other hand got royally screwed. Ok, I know it's a pipe dream to ever think that the Emmy voters would nominate it in the major categories, even though it deserved it. But hell, you'd think it would've gotten something! How about the brilliant fight scene choreography in nearly every episode(Gunn vs. the bodyguards in "Players" being the standout)? What about Best Makeup for the Beast? Best FX? Then again, I'm starting to wonder if it's not really the Emmys at fault but rather the WB. Not only did Angel get the shaft, but so did Gilmore Girls and Smallville. Does that network do anything to promote their shows? |

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think it's ridiculous that more than one actor from the same show can be nominated in the same category.
Choices are difficult to make, but they should just pick ONE actor from one show per category. No more nominating three people from the West Wing or two people from the Sopranos for, say, supporting actor. That's an insult to other programs and actors in saying that no one else is as good or did as well of a job this past TV season, when that's just not the case at all. |
No love for The Wire which is disappointing. Hopefully next year it will get the recognition it deserves. The second season has been at least as good as the first so far.

Well, the Emmy's continue to be a total joke to me if for no other reason than their lack of nominees from the WB. I love SFU and I love CYE, but the 2 best shows on TV are Angel and Gilmore Girls.
Also, only 1 nom for The Shield, Scrubs, and Buffy is ridiculous. Buffy didn't have a good year, but there are definitely some categories it should be nominated in. And The Shield and Scrubs are probably the 5th and 6th best shows on TV after Angel, Gilmore, SFU, and CYE. Of course the best animated shows on TV, South Park and Adult Swim, were shut-out too. |

It really did not deserve a nom last year. This year, it was slightly better but the Academy definitely made the right call to leave it off. I prefer SVU now as well. |
