How many people here, are sitting tight, waiting for this, socalled, "reality" Tv show trend, to end ?

The topper is that new one on NBC, this week, featuring a New York City chef/restaurant owner, Rocco DeSpirito.

Take my word for it, this guy is the biggest, and dullest, dud, that ever shaped your Tv pixels. Prepare to meet the, ahem,
"personality", who is going to kill this trend, for good!

I feel the next trend should be a lipstick, spy camera, viewing the pitch meetings for new Tv shows. FINALLY, we would get to meet the Morons who are pummeling us with this CRAP !

The reality of the situation (ha ha) is that this is not a trend, nor is it anything "new." Reality shows have been with us in one form or another since television began, but it's only recently that people began to categorize them.

As has been mentioned elsewhere, "Reality Television" is not a genre. There are a wide variety of shows that fit this moniker, some good, some bad. You can't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

There are plenty, dare I say, TONS, of crappy "Non-Reality" shows. Yet I don't see anybody calling for them to end.

Rocco has the ability to "kill it off", believe me ! And he will throw it out with the pasta water !

Isn't there a new one coming out featuring Paris Hilton in a country setting?

The only reality show I watched was American High on PBS.

I think, seriously, her or her sister, is doing an update of some kind of literary classic for Tv with Justin Timberlake.

I'd much rather be chained to a chair, and forced to watch the entire "Friends" Tv shows, than see what this moron will inflict upon our culture.

I detest most of the Relationship shows -- except Blind Date which can sometimes be hilarious.

However, there are a few reality tv shows I like -- 2 that I tape and never miss: Amazing Race and Last Comic Standing.

The only thing that will kill reality television is if the American people decide they don't want to see it any more.

American Idol was the biggest hit of the past year. For Love or Money is the hit of the summer. Especially when you consider that these shows can be filmed on the cheap... no, I don't think this is the beginning of the end.

And what's wrong with Friends? I like Friends.

Just like comedies and dramas, there are good reality shows and bad reality shows.

Cops is a fantastic show. So is Survivor. Amazing Race is a decent show. I love some of the dating type shows - like the Bachelor, Temptation Island, Blind Date and Elimidate and others I hate - like Joe Millionaire and the Bachelorette.

I don't understand why some people are so hostile to reality television. There are hundreds of channels to choose from. Who cares about reality shows being on a few nights on a few networks?

I never said that I didn't like it. I just found it extremely frustrating to watch at times. It's growing on me.

I hate reality TV. I hate it because it is taking the place of drama and comedy, which I might actually watch. Yeah, most television sucks, but I hate almost all reality TV. I occasionally watch The Real World. For me that's it as far as reality TV goes.
That's the market now, though I still don't have to like it. While there are more like dozens of channels (at least on my cable, at my price range) not that many have original programming. It is sad so much of it is reality based and to me completely uninteresting.

Seriously, I don't like a lot of the reality shows either.. but then I don't like 75% of television -- and yet I still watch tons of it -- because the 25% of the stuff I like or love is on enough that I can spend quite a bit of time watching stuff I like.

And.. the ratio really isn't much different. I probably like about 25% of reality tv as well.

If 'Am I Hot?' and 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' didn't kill reality shows, I don't think this will.

I don't mind the reality (game) shows that much. In fact, I regularly watch Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, Last Comic Standing, and The Mole (if it ever comes back). I will, however, be damn glad when all these stupid dating shows finally play themselves out.

Tara Reid should have her own reality show...or perhaps one about Demi and Ashton's hot new romance!

Yeah, you busted me. That other thread got me interested. I should have said when I watch it's almost always The Real World. I have never even see a whole episode of the other shows mentioned in this thread. Most times just the description is cringeworthy enough.

I enjoy watching a lot of reality TV shows. I don't like all of them. In fact, some are crappy. But there are some reality shows that are very entertaining and worth watching. So I'm definitely hoping the tv producers continue to crank out more innovative reality tv shows.

I don't mind a show like Project Greenlight, where you get to see the goings on behind filming a movie. Pretty good idea, informative and at times entertaining. Or a show like Trading Spaces/Junkyard wars where a team collaborate and actually do or create something worthwhile.

but shows where you eat bugs for money, date/get married to someone just for the sake of being on tv, seeing celebs at home(ANS, ozzy, Hiltons), it is all about just getting on tv now, and having 15 minutes of fame.

I say if we have to sacrifice a few good to get rid of all the bad, so be it. The genre is sitting at 5% good and 95% of the shows are bad. Lose them all.

I find the 'watch a celebrity' subgenre is pretty bad (never got into the Osbournes, which is supposed to be the best) and I positively despise The Real World now, and consider it the lowest of the low... preening self absorbed brats handed a perfect house and job, with their annoying little spats and temper tantrums. I guess I pretty much hate the shows where the camera just documents people sitting there, not competing for anything, just sitting there "hey, look at me on tv!"... blah.

That said, a majority of EVERY genre is crap. There are plenty more awful sitcoms, awful dramas, awful sci-fi shows, than good. I actually enjoy The Amazing Race more than 99% of the scripted crap out there (actually 100% now that Buffy is off the air). I could understand all the "lose em all!" comments if the networks were just overflowing with quality non-reality shows that weren't getting seen because the reality ones edged them out. But in truth most of the shows that are introduced this fall will be crap anyway. Maybe the reality boom will force the creators of sitcoms and dramas to step up their game and create shows with quality.

Reality shows are a simple way for networks to replace a failed show mid season. so they will be around for aslong as their is crappy shows that fail.
