Knowning that they edited down the 10 minutes could explain how Rob lost. Considering his style, I can see how his set may have gone downhill and got edited out for tv.
But damn, Dat Phan sucked. The first bit where he did the funny voice and said 'I'm just kidding, I speak english', was funny. But then he went back to that goofy voice for the rest of the act. It was grating and not funny. 90% of his act was based on a character that was annoying and unintelligable. Dave on the other hand, kicked the proverbial ass. D |
I think Dat has a bunch of talent and is more well-rounded than anyone in the house, but is not as strong in stand up. His bit seemed better suited for a one-man show off Broadway where he could describe his hardships growing up mixed with comedy.. As far as just making you laugh though, the others in the house are much stronger

Vos was doing Colin's show and did his CC special long before this show. This show was taped over Feb/March of this year.
Originally posted by TheMadMonk While I am certainly not a fan of the "Yeah, I'm fat, and I talk like I'm black 'cos I'm from da hood!" comedy of Ralphie, Rob didn't exactly win me over either. The whole "Bobbert" thing didn't do anything for me, and I can't remember the last (or first) time I've ever been amused by punctuation. Does anyone know who actually wins this show? Is it happening right now? (are they currently living in a house somewhere at this moment, and the shows are recorded and edited and then run in a timely fashion?) I'm just wondering because Spoiler:

Oh, it pains me that my favorite comic lost to a guy's who's entire act is "look at me, I'm asian!!!".
I can't stand the comics who rely totally on a hook like "I'm black", "I'm asian", "I'm fat", "I'm gay". Dat's whole speech about wanting a "good person" to win and not wanting to allow evil to triumph made me realize that the guy is absolutely nuts. You'd think Darth Vader was living in the house. "So a jedi walks into a bar..." I have to hope that if Dat makes it to the finals, his weirdness & good vs. evil speech to Corey have to make phone voters pick someone else. |

And you know who's fault this was? It was Cory Kahaney! She gave Dat Phan the idea's about how to create his sitcom, which the focus group ate up, which gave him the exemption the week before.
Really now I don't know who I want to win. Originally it was Ralphie May, but I don't think he was that funny last week in the face off. But he may be the best choice now. I created a wish list on my TIVO for Dave Mordal, but nothing came up :( . Does anybody know if he has done any standup that has been shown on television? I think he would be great in a sitcom, as long as he plays himself, since we saw that he was the funniest person in that house. Chris |
Funniest line of the whole series was delivered by Jay Mohr last night:
"Richard, Ralphie didn't move the whole time and he still beat you!"  rotfl   |
Hey I just found this post here http://www.fansofrealitytv.com/forum...&page=12&pp=20 by walleyequeen
"Hey you guys, just wanted to pass along an email response that I got from Dave regarding last night's show. I told him that a lot of people are Bummed out and threatening to stop watching the show. He asked that we don't stop watching, that he couldn't say anything but to keep watching because he thinks we will be "pleasantly surprised." Maybe he will be on a future episode? Chris |
Interesting. Well the previews for next week's show did suggest that something unexpected will happen.
|
Yeah I saw that too and thought that maybe someone from the past would show up, but then Jay said that instead of 6 going to Vegas only 5 would go and I thought that was the surprise. So I'm confused!
Chris |
I could be wrong, but I could swear that they said from the very beginning that only five would go to Vegas. I was surprised when they suddenly started talking six.

Dave Mordal has a website at, you guessed it, www.davemordal.com, so I just sent him this e-mail
'Hello Dave, I just got to say that you were the best thing on Last Comic Standing and I really thought you had a great chance to win it all. But that idiot audience wouldn't know what's funny, even if you sprayed the room with laughing gas. I believe it was you that said 'a comic is not only funny when doing standup, but also in everyday real life', and you sir were very funny in real life, especially when capturing that mouse (rat, if you ask Rich Vos)! You have a great way of looking at life and if I were a registered voter, I would probably vote for you for President. And then I could read about your drunken exploits in the morning newspaper and have a good laugh first thing! It's too bad you live in Minnesota and only perform around those neck of the woods, cause I think you would do great here in California. Maybe now the offers will start coming in, so hopefully I can see you do standup for more than 3 minutes. Maybe NBC will cast you in one of their sitcoms, maybe as an eccentric uncle to a bunch of kids that he can't stand, but deep down really loves! That would be better than your terrorist sitcom, which probably would do great in the Middle East, but not here in the States ;) I've set up a 'wishlist' with your name on my TIVO, so I hope to see you soon on the television. Take care and good luck in the future. Your new fan (not Dat), Chris Do you think he might think I am stalking him? ;) Chris |
He'll probably assume you want to have hot monkey buttsex with him.
:D |
I'm 42, the same age as he is, but I am so hetero, it ain't funny!

I had very mixed emotions. Before I found out who Dat was going against I wanted him to win just because I was sick of how the coalition thought they could control everything. I really wanted to see it backfire on them. Plus, I thought it sucked how they were so mean to Dat.
But, I loved Mordall. I thought he was the best comic on the show. It was really tough to see him leave. I'm going for Geoff now. I haven't even seen his act, but I don't really like any of the other comics there. |
I wouldn't have been all for Dat beating Tess or Geoff (because I don't think either of those two are funny).
Corey is only "ok" from what little I have seen. Rich I liked a lot LESS before the show. But on the show I liked the fun back and forth humor he had with Dave and Corey and Ralphie. LOVED Ralphie before the show (I've seen him twice live), but the first week in the house I kind of soured on him. And his head to head against Rob I didn't care for and though Rob was better. Dave is/was the funniest in the house. Especially off the mic. Him hiding in the bush peeking on Dat, catching the rat, he always had a quick wit about him or a comeback to anything someone said. In his one on one interviews with the camera he always said something funny (Vos was the only other that even came close when it came to this, with his ironing). Some of the others took the camera time to be SERIOUS for some reason!? Just checked out Dave's site. Does anyone know the scheduling of this show!? Because him, Vos, and Corey were at Caroline's THIS LAST WEEKEND!? I'm assuming, they finished the "final house tapings" and got down to the final FIVE, and all of this has a few weeks break before the "live" Vegas acts? I also see he is performing this weekend in Montreal. I was supposed to go to Montreal this weekend anway, but fell through due to some work I have to get done this weekend. Too bad, would have liked to see him there. |

"This survivor cast member sucks at surviving in the wild, but their high point might be telling stories around the camp fire.. so he should win" The game is last comic standing, the guy wasn't funny compared to dave and if his weakpoint is Stand up, He should get the hell of the show since that is what this show is all about.. his bit seemed better suited for a one-man show off Broadway where he could describe his hardships growing up mixed with comedy.. Originally posted by Jackskeleton wow.. now that was unexpected.. Comments from D.Pham on hot he did it? I think it's funny that he's calling people his brother, mother, etc. Just like here on DVD Talk where he called a certain person his mOOmy and he calls me his brother. |
The parts with Dat talking about good vs. evil make me think that later the show will reveal that Dat is Luke Skywalker and Rich Vos is Darth Vader.
|
I agree with you 100%.. I don;t think Dat should be on the show, much less win it.. I think he might be talented, but he is not very funny.. He does remind me more of a John Leguzimo... I never laughed at anything he has done either, but he is entertaining
Originally posted by Jackskeleton [B]Funny, I Don't see D.Pham being funny anywhere in the house during the house footage.. and he sure wasn't funny on the stand up act. Your statement is like saying "This survivor cast member sucks at surviving in the wild, but their high point might be telling stories around the camp fire.. so he should win" The game is last comic standing, the guy wasn't funny compared to dave and if his weakpoint is Stand up, He should get the hell of the show since that is what this show is all about.. I feel fro the guy pretty much having nothing, but the "I'm asian, look at me!" act gets old fast and his one trick pony act will get old fast. Does John Leguizamo go on about being Hispanic/spanish throughout his act? No, he talks about sex, love, women, situation life process and he seems funny Off the stage aswell. he has physical comedy aswell. D. Pham seemed to lack all this throughout his actions all over the house footage. |
Seriously. Is our own D. Pham really Dat Phan?
|
But you guys got to understand these guys don't have an hour and a half of comedy time on HBO to work with. They have ten minutes max. If asian or gay jokes are your best bit...so what?
Granted, I wouldn't want to listen to an hour of it...but then again you have to talk and make comedy of what you know. Most of that stuff has to do with how you were raised, and the little quirks about your upbringing. |
