Three words: NFL Sunday Ticket.

There's your difference.

DirecTivo charges a monthly fee for their Tivo ($4.99 per unit) and Dish network charges a higher upfront cost, but no monthly fee (for now - this may be changing soon).

Either one is better than cable, IMHO.

It will very shortly:
Here are the monthly DVR fee is as follows:

• $0.00 per month if the customer subscribes to America’s Everything Pak
• $4.98 per month if the customer subscribes to AT100, DL Dos, AT150, or DL Max
• $9.99 per month if the customer subscribes to AT50, DISH Latino, or AT50 Plus

Plus note they are not calling it a PVR anymore, looks like they are dropping the PVR name in favor of the DVR name.
It's posted in both the dbstalk and tivocommunity forums.

Glad I switched to DirecTV. I wouldn't want to pay anything per month for their glorified VCR.

Still no confirmation that HD games are available on NFL sunday ticket. So don't get your hopes up.

By the way, how many Dishnetwork people here are thinking of switching to D* now because of the upcoming PVR fees? I was excited about the 921 but I certainly am not going to pay $10 extra a month for it; especially if I can't get tivo-like features. I guess it's finally time to start looking at other options now.

I thought one CBS game/week was going to be HD with the Ticket?

Yes, as long as it is broadcast on CBS or Faux it will most likely be shown on the new PPVSpecialHD channel... or whatever it is called!

Then it should be available to all DTV HD subs, right?

Knowing DirecTV, I doubt anyone not subscribing to Sunday Ticket would get a free HD football game.

OK, not free. You're still paying for the HD package

But, maybe I'm wrong......

I don't know if DirecTV gets this problem right, but there's been a re-occuring nitpick I have with Dishnet from time to time.

Last night I felt like checking out some "Skinemax" (Hey, I'm paying the bills. Might as well make the most of it right?) and read in the info-guide that one my favorite gals in the biz (Crystal Knight) appears in this flick called She got game. So I tuned in late at night and what do I find? This one. Couldn't have asked for a bigger letdown, eh?

This also happened in October (When I was doing my horror-movie spree) and wanted to watch a certain fright flick from the 70's starring John Carradine. Again, at least I thought I was gonna watch this particular movie because both the dishnet TV guide and the info button assured me this was it. But instead, it was some 90's movie of the same title starring Malcolm McDowell.

And I don't wanna go into how many times I've been fooled when I'd want to re-watch the quite good, Riot, but always get bitchslapped when they fake me out by instead showing the Sugar Ray Leonard crapfest of the same name.

So do you DirecTV guys always come in good hands with this?
