Banzai-- the lowest of the low?
Can't believe how utterly bad those commercials look. Plus, even before the first show airs, it is already claiming victims:

Actually, the show claims to be spoofing Japanese game shows...
It's not.. It almost immitates Japanese game shows dead on perfectly. (Players placing bets over the dumbest possible ****.) (and.. at least the few Japanese game shows I've actually seen.. which isn't many I'll admit, I tend to gravitate toward the dumbest possible ones too. (a few various shows and the occasional super happy family hour.) That said, anybody who does something they hear on a commercial is just stupid. Let's see somebody get a rabbi, a priest, and lou ferrigno and get that segment immitated. |
Banzai TV used to be shown on USA network on Fri or Sat nights during different movies. You could go online to their website and compete against other viewers in various contests. So um, the first show aired a year or two ago.
Banzai has been around for a while (at least here in Canada) and it is the funniest/craziest show you are bound to see.... it is absolutely hilarious and makes for a great drinking game... WELL worth watching...honestly...

Interesting. I'd never heard of it before. Maybe next, we can paint some white guys in blackface, give them big red lips, and have a tap-dancing show-- as a "spoof" of old minstrel shows.
I don't see how this will be interesting stretched to a half hour.
If you think its so terrible dont watch it. As already stated its not even a spoof but practically an exact copy of real Japanese game shows.

I can't tell from the commercials exactly what the show is supposed to be about.
For a second I thought it was Gedde Wannatabee on the commerical, that would've been better.
Fits right in on FOX.
Anyone watch this? As it seemed in the commercials, it is pretty horrible. Some of the "bets" were silly enough, but I thought that the one legged soccer player against the one armed goalie was in bad taste.
I can honestly say that I would never watch it again. |
I laughed a good bit, but thought the old-lady chicken was kind of wrong.
That said, here's a bet. PLACE YOUR BETS!! HOW LONG WILL BANZAI! LAST ON FOX? A. 2 to 7 EPISODES B. 8 to 13 EPISODES C. 14 to 26 EPISODES D. MORE THAN 26 EPISODES. I'll probably keep watching, reminds me of SUPER HAPPY FAMILY HOUR that I used to watch. And well, TV sucks 8:30 Sunday. |
Congratulations Lou Ferrigno, You won this baby's soul!
Perhaps you can trade it in for a Caravan. |
I kinda liked it.
It was funny for the first 5 min. After that it got old. I bet it won't be one more than 4 episodes.
The geishas were... interesting :D
One of them is a Devil Woman!
I laughed, I cried.. I had a moment. One of the best shows on tv for guilty pleasures. I'll watch again and again. :)
If it's scraping the bottom of the barrel, then it's bound to have a long run on FOX.
Originally posted by TheMadMonk I kinda liked it. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected from the commercials and some of the segments were pretty entertaining. -smile- |

I also have to beg to differ about this being the lowest of the low.. fox can go much lower.. recall the glutten bowl? :p
i gotta say i laughed my ass off. good stuff. btw, an r2 uk dvd is available (it's been on in the uk for some time as well as canada.) i'll go out on a limb and say it's quality entertainment :)
some of it was funny some of it was dumb. i'll probaby continue to watch it only b/c there is such a lack of summer programming.
I thought it was pretty funny. It would be great to play as a drinking game. Wheelchair chicken was great.
I thought it was funny, but I expect them to run out of good ideas by the end of the first season. As for it being low-brow, when is the next Glutton Bowl?
I'm waiting for Man vs Beast II. I'm hoping they can get Tony Kornheiser to provide commentary.
Unfortunately my tape ran out during the commercial break after the Lou Ferrigno on so I missed whatever happened during the last segment of the show. Was there a contest or we just had previews for next week/credits?
I just missed guessing right on two of them with them being the Simon Crowell and Gerisha girls ones. (I figured Simon would give up quicker and I picked the middle Gerisha girl.) LB... |
Yeah I figured Cowell would have left sooner as well.. I was amazed - he seemed worried that he may of actually offended somebody.
I kind of enjoyed this against my better judgment. The segments were mercifully short so the gags didn't overstay their welcome. I loved the Simon Cowell bit... it was dumb at first, but it just got funnier and funnier the longer it went on. I did feel the Asian aspect was a bit overdone and ventured into bad taste, moreso than the gags that were supposed to be in bad taste. The Lou Ferrigno segment was the lamest part and seemed way too forced.
Watched it... liked it... TiVo is programmed!

I finally watched it after PVR'ing it [well, mostly--I have watched through the Simon Cowell bit.]
I thought it's pretty funny. Stupid, and over the top, but funny. Most of the humor seems to be more lighthearted, and the practical jokes aren't cruel, but more in line of what I think a practical joke should be. And, if you want to get deep, Lady One Question really demonstrated an interesting nuance of psychology--people want to hear themselves talk. Rule 1 when interviewing someone for a job [as in, you are doing the hiring] is Give the interviewee some silence, see what they say; it's very interesting. I'm not Japanese, so I won't say it is or isn't offensive; it would be more offensive if they weren't Japanese folks doing the hosting. And I'm sorry, this is in no way the 'lowest of the low': I'd say Fear Factor takes that cake [eating raw pig snout and bathing in worms isn't fearful, just disgusting.] I'll watch it again--I tell you what, it's the first non-Simpsons/Futurama major network show that actually made me laugh out loud ["I think she's mad at you."] I liked the dialog for the chicken, too--Brave chicken, giving your alll for science. [On the zoom you could see the string they used to pull her down, and any dumbass who imitates something you see on a show like that, especially that could harm animals or people, is exactly that.] |
I caught this for the first time this past Sunday. While I'm not sure I should be enjoying a show where I'm supposed to laugh at announcers with exaggerated Japanese accents, I thought the thing was bizarre and funny. Not to mention the stunning Princess Di/Harry Potter upset.
