Yes, the NFL wifes totally surprised me and played well today.

Weezer and Geezer really didn't need to use that Fast Forward... but whatever works.

The whole tag thing was totally weird. I felt bad for those other two guys who let Chip and whatshisname go grab the tag for them, and turn up empty handed. If I was in that position, I'd offer a coin toss to see who gets it.

In hindsight, that's true because the other team made that slip-up and ended up being last place by a long shot. But at the time, they were incredibly far behind and under immediate threat of elimination. You don't use fast forwards to get in first place (because every leg seems to have a place in the middle when everyone gets bunched up anyway), you use it to avoid being eliminated. Also, with each episode, the fast forwards become less useful as the legs get shorter and the teams become more scarce.

Interesting story about that fast forward... when Steve and Josh got there, they really didn't know if anyone else had been there before them. There was only one pass to give out to whoever the FIRST team would be to complete the task. If someone had been there before them, they could've wasted a lot of time doing that task for nothing. Well, one of the champagne-pourers decided to mess with them and purposely left a bunch of broken glasses at the foot of the table so that when Josh and Steve arrived, it looked like a team had already done the challenge.

Well Greg, they might have been behind, but I don't think they'd have been behind Stevedave :)

Still, that Fast Forward is a big piece of relief... and gets you going early the next day.

I felt really bad for Stevedave when they got the wrong train at the start :(

How much of a long shot was that last team last BTW?

I'm glad that more of these young couples are gone, because I can't tell them apart!

I disagree. If you can, you want to save your Fast Forward as long as possible. The more teams there are, the more likely you are to make the cut. Even if you come in second-to-last, it's no big deal because you'll be bunched up with everybody else sometime in the next leg anyway.

I think that of the three Fast Forwards used so far, only one was necessary: Team Coronary. They needed it to avoid elimination, and it ended up buying them a couple more rounds. Weezer and Geezer's Fast Forward last night was a bit more questionable. Knowing that Team Coronary had already used their Fast Forward, I would have not used it myself despite the poor position. As for the NFL Wives, they used theirs much too early. While I have a lot more respect for them after this episode, I believe that they made a mistake that will probably eventually cost them the game.

well it's funny because,
one minute they say "it's all about the minorities" with team gay and Team NFL.

Then two minutes later, when they got ahead with the other two girls, it was "all about girl power now" according to Team NFL.

They could make these half-hour shows because the first half-hour nobody is ahead of the others. A frustrating concept that I am still having problems getting over.

I've got a question - can you hitchhike? Can you take cabs at non-transfer points (for instance - to take the Bass to Mozart's house)?

There are certain points in the race where you must walk or run. I imagine the cello challenge was one of those times. Last season, a team was penalized (and eliminated) because they took a cab even though the rules specifically told them to walk.

You can hitchhike anytime you could take a cab.

Are their husbands professional athletes or something? I've never heard them mention that on the show :rolleyes:

I assume you're talking about the points where everyone gets bunched up. There's two reasons for this:

1. A team could get a very far ahead very early in the race. The remaining episodes would be VERY boring.

2. The production team needs a way to control the group to be able to set up the challenges along the way.

Think of it this way; the group who wins does so NOT because they caught one big break and got far ahead (which would happen if there were no bunch-ups)....they consistently had to stay ahead of the pack (or at least out of last place) for a series of smaller races throughout the ENTIRE race.

Yeah - Yeah I know. It is still frustrating to watch. It is clear that of the teams that do well, they do well from the detour-on. You can pretty much be sloths up until the detour. Hence, no real need to watch the first half-hour.

Red Dog, it varies from leg to leg. The first half can sometimes make or break a team. Especially in situations where they have to catch a flight. There will always be bunching up, but it happens at different times depending on the leg.

Don't get too discouraged...this show gets better and better with each episode. I speak from experience as I started watching last season and felt the same way you did about this point in the race.

IIRC, they both wanted to do the bungee, but she overruled him. He didn't chicken out and make her do it.

After watching last nite's show, Millie is a badass. She has an asthma attack but still goes on and then she elbows Chip in the lip and then jumped off the tower.

I was wondering about this. Seems kind of dumb to specify a mode of transportation when you could sometimes walk faster than wait for horse drawn carriages, etc. Why would they care if you took a cab, bikes, walked, or rode a donkey to the next place?

For how well they explain what the detour and fast forward cards mean each week, you would think that they would mention that the competitors cannot do certain things (that a viewer would think is logical) like hailing a cab or renting a bike, etc. I find myself constantly asking these questions.

Because it makes it more interesting for the viewers to watch different kinds of mini-races as the show goes on.

Was it her in the previews for next week yelling at her teammate for having an anxiety attack?






the clowns are my favorite at this point - very class act sticking with them during her attack.

Because if they did, the viewers wouldn't get treated to just comic spectacles of the Pedi-Cab race through the streets of Beijing (??) between the Guidos and the FratBoys in Amazing Race 1.

It's priceless, watching the one poor guy transporting the fatter frat boys damn near pass out going up the hill -smile-

It's actually kinda interesting watching the asthma attack scene. Josh and Steve were there also, as those teams had a strong bond between each other. But they were so purposely edited out, we can't portray a sympathetic Josh, oh no. lol You can actually see Josh's face on the edge of the screen for just a couple seconds during the scene.

It was good that the clowns stopped and helped. Now only if they stopped trying to be funny... because acting like a clown isn't very funny in the circus, much less out of it :P
