I don't think I've ever watched an entire episode of ELR. Should I start?

Well, you could watch tonight, then call it quits. If you've seen one episode, you've seen them all.

You know when I first saw the header, I thought
it was a topic about ER's Romano.

Now there's someone who deserves a few extra $$$.

And all for a performance that almost matches the range of Rosanne in her first season.

Difference is that she got better!

To be honest, the show's not too bad. But that's only due to the supporting cast (Roberts, Boyle and Garrett). The two leads are annoying as hell and writing makes me long for the days of "Night Court."

Decker's right. One episode and you've seen all there is to see.

I have honestly never seen his show either, but Ray Romano has annoyed every time I have seen him guest on various other shows that I can't imagine it would be any good.

I've watched 3 or 4 episodes and have no intention of ever doing so again. The writing is okay and some of the jokes are funny, but every single character is so unpleasant it makes it unwatchable. They all hate each other.

Honk!

Wow. I've never seen an episode of this show, and literally have no idea what it's even about.

Duh. Don't you see? It's this show about a guy, let's call him Ray. And apparently he's irresitible, to the point where the entire populace really adores him. Especially his agent.

I must be in a minority, because I think Everybody Loves Raymond is hilarious... the characters are very funny and the writing is extremely witty and fast paced... I don't know if Romano deserves that kind of coinage, but his show is pretty damn entertaining...

MATT

p.s. up until a year ago, I thought I would hate this show, so I never gave it a chance...then I happened upon an episode or two and became a regular viewer...give it a chance

Well, I have seen quite a few episodes, and I can honestly say, I don't think that I laughed once. We started to watch it after realizing how well it was doing in the ratings, seeing the stars win so many awards, etc, but we were very dissapointed. I like Brad Garrett a lot, as well as Peter Boyle (Doris Roberts is ok), but I cannot stand Ray Romano. Patricia Heaton annoys me as well, but she is semi-hot, so I can stand looking at her.

A bit off topic but...

One of the reasons that I really prefer King of Queens over most sitcoms (including Raymond) is that both the wife and the husband screw up! Most other sitcoms have the wives as total saints, while the husbands are total screwups. In KOQ, both of them have their good and bad sides. Much more relatable, IMO, and myself and my girlfriend always agree that they are the TV couple that we are most like...

I really don't get all the praise for ELR either. There are very few comedies on network TV that I can tolerate anymore. The only ones that I religiously watch are King of Queens, 8 Simple Rules, and That 70s Show.

Did anyone see the episode where Ray does something stupid and his wife gets really mad? And then his mom butts in, his dad shouts out something silly, and his brother makes a funny face? Definitely a classic.

I like Ray himself, but I can't get into the show.

I like the show. It's really grown on me- it's not just Ray who's a total screw-up (the name for the show is LAME), it's everyone- they're all mean, petty and self-centered people, sort of like Seinfeld in that resepct.

The guy who plays Ray's father is particularly funny, funnier than Ray I think.

It does great in the ratings. If I had to guess I would think the show appeals to married people over 25. I like the show I think its funny.

I don't know, I like the show. At first, I really hated the parents, but I tolerate them now.

Last week's episode was really funny. After coming home from a weekend trip, Debra and Ray have a three week war about who is going to move and upack the suitcase. The escalation from just being too tired to who will flinch first was pretty funny.

The show grows on you.

I don't see how people can slam this show for being repetitve. How about Home Improvement? That was the most repetetive show since Three's Company. The basic plot every week was Tim does something stupid to piss of his wife, he talks to Wilson about it who gives him advice, he apologizes to his wife. It was still funny at times.

At least ELR gets into some of the nuances of what it's like to be married. Best yet, it's one of the few shows about a family where the kids are not the focus or even a major part of the plot.

It has nothing to do with desperate. It was, until CSI started peaking, CBS's most consistant show as far as ratings go (and it remains second only to CSI).

It does; however, most likely pull an older audience, as CBS does overall.
