Sci Fi channel "winning streak" may be over!

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Sci Fi's hot streak could be coming to an end as the cable channel announced today it has pulled its original drama "Tremors: The Series" and repeats of former syndicated series "Cleopatra 2525" from its Friday schedule. Encores from "Stargate SG-1's" sixth season will take over both hours (8:00/7:00c and 9:00/8:00c) beginning this week. Fellow Friday series "Scare Tactics" however will continue to run fresh installments at 10:00/9:00c.

No reason was given for the move however based on "Tremors'" 35% drop in audience between its first and second weeks, low ratings are likely the culprit. Such news could mean the end of Sci Fi's 11-month streak of building on year-to-year averages, the longest by any network, broadcast or cable. Final numbers for April however will not be available for several weeks.

Currently, "Tremors" is set to return on Friday, June 20 at 8:00/7:00c for the remainder of its 13 episode order. The drama will undoubtedly be helped by the return of "Stargate SG-1" to the schedule when its two-hour seventh season premiere hits June 13 at 9:00/8:00c

If they bring Farscape back with a BRAND NEW MULTI-YEAR Contract with more control for kemper, Then I believe all can be forgiven. Otherwise Scifi Is Dead to me.

In the immortal words of Nelson Muntz: "HAW ha!"

Seriously, what did they expect would happen? They're called the "Sci-Fi Channel," for frell's sake, and they decide they need to "appeal to a wider audience" by shifting their focus from space themed shows. This is comparable to Home & Garden TV deciding they need a younger demographic and airing music videos.

I honestly have not watched a single thing on SciFi since the final episode of Farscape. And not out of spite either, though God knows I feel it--there simply hasn't been one thing on that I've had any interest whatsover in watching. I'm getting a lot more done around the house without them though.

I'm hopeful the dismal ratings will continue, and Bonnie Hammer will be ousted from the network she single-handedly ruined, and will be forced to go back to where she belongs--managing the evening shift at the Fashion Bug in her local strip mall...

You mean the Fashion Bug Plus.

Is that Dream thing still airing? John Edwards is on Kimmell so it looks like he's trying his best to gain interest for his show(lagging ratings?).

Pure trash. Soft-core pr0n, and not good at that.

What is it with SciFi and titties? They have never gone together well, or I’d be an avid viewer along with the just-barely-into-puberty crowd.

Their path to salvation is clear: fire Bonnie Hammer, bring back MST3K, and go back to running reruns of Lost In Space, Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, and Twilight Zone.

Hahahahaha......

Well, they deserve it.
I didn't know they were showing Cleo, but, well if I had I still wouldn't have been watching. The show didn't last in syndication all that long.

When are they changing their name to the Stargate channel.

What goes around comes around.......

Great news about the drop in ratings from USA 2 oops the Sci-Fi channel I use that term loosely since they started airing the Flintstones and got rid of my favorite show Farscape now all they need to do is get rid of the wicked witch of the East Bonnie Hammer and everything is all set.

I dunno... they did show "Pitch Black" last week didn't they?

Oh yeah, that fulfills the one "sci-fi" film a month rule there...

USA 1 showed Pitch Black a couple of years ago. It looks like SciFi remembered it was in the vault.

I can't wait for the fan campaign to save Tremors. I hear there are almost 3 people who are thinking about maybe writing a letter. They just need a way to raise the 37 cents for a stamp.

It is odd that their programming was was better befroe their original series and Sci Fi Orignal Film (aka. mostly some couldnt even make it direct-to-video sci fi crap that we bought) programming. They used to have carttons inthe morning, anime, they'd occassionally show a cool series like The Prisoner, had MST3k. I guess they really have to do some re-thinking. Fans love Farscape and they drop it. Invisible Man was fun, they drop it. They need help.

Just out of curiosity...

Is there anyone else around here who doesn't like the Hammer-era SciFi Channel, but also didn't really care for Farscape, or is it just me?

(And please don't use me as a urinal cake for that opinion. I'm not dissing anyone who liked that show, it just never appealed to me.)

Urinal cake?! HAHAHA!!

I will second RedSkull47's comments about not watching SciFi since Farscape ended. None of the other shows interested me, and I only made it through the first 5 minutes of Tremors before turning it off.

I don't watch a lot of TV and don't go looking for new shows to watch. Without Farscape, I have no reason to be watching SciFi to even see if they come up with something new and/or good.

It just seems like it could be such a cool channel. Oh well...
