characters played by more than one actor?

i was thinking of some characters i hate recently and figured they'd be more likable if the actor portraying them were different, and it got me thinking about times this actually happened. i can only think of 2, offhand:

1. topanga's dad in boy meets world. he was played by at least 2 and maybe three actors.

2. claire from my wife & kids. went into the season's end with one actress, came back with another. (great joke in that ep about her only changing her hair  )

any other instances of this happening?

Seinfeld's parents

Darren from Bewitched

Ross' first ex-wife on friends

Edit: added the word "first."

The older sister on Life Goes On.. Tracy Needham & Monique Lanier played Paige Thatcher.

The older sister on Rosanne... Alicia Goranson & Sarah Chalke played Becky Connor.

The aunt on Fresh Prince.. Janet Hubert-Whitten & Daphne Reid played Vivian Banks

On M*A*S*H*.. William Christopher and George Morgan played Father Francis Mulcahy.

Lloyd Braun from "Seinfeld."

Had one guy play him originally, then when the character came back from his nervous breakdown, he was played by I think Matt McCoy.

"Hmm......nametags - that's a good idea!"

Justin Whalen replaced Michael Landis as Jimmy Olsen on "Lois and Clark".

Nikki, the Subway Slayer, over on Buffy has been played by two different people.
Ditto Victor Halliwell on Charmed
There were at least two different Kristine Kochanskis on Red Dwarf
Also on Red Dwarf, two different Krytens

James Read is a big improvement over Denison. The Gypsy nurse that Emmanuelle Vaugier played earlier this season was played by a different actress when the character showed up again later.

Dr. Who is another big one.

The younger sister (before the baby) Morgan on Boy Meets World was played by two girls. I thought the first one was funny and had character. I barely remember the person who replaced her because she was boring and they never had a storyline for her.
Edit: Lily Nicksay and Lindsay Ridgeway played Morgan.

Giantrobo 04-15-03 04:36 AM

George Jefferson was played by 2 actors
Lionel Jefferson ws played by 2 actors... One Lionel was kinda uptight(Jefferson's show) and the other was cool(Original Lionel from All in the Family).

slightly off topic but not really...ON M*A*S*H, Harry Morgan played two different characters: He played a crazy General( I think) and Col Potter later in the series

On the late '80s Superboy, John Haymes Newton played Superboy the first year, and Gerard Christopher took over for the next three.

Okay, good topic, because recently I was flipping by and caught an episode of the A-Team. I was an addict as a kid but I don't remember this. Were my ears deceiving me or were they calling a different guy 'Face'? This was one of the last season episodes. Did Dirk Benedict leave the show and get a replacement?

-eek- Ok, it's a little scary that you would remember this. The Superboy series isn't exactly the most popular corner of the Superman universe.

Catwoman in Batman - Lee Merriweather, Julie Newmar , Eartha Kitt.

Good call. But it's the first episode ('Mexican Slayride'). Tim Dunigan, or as I call him "That Tool From the Pilot," was Faceman in the premiere. Luckily, Cannell got his way and was able to get Benedict back and take the role he was born to play.

Tim Dunigan's title as "Lamest Thing on <I>The A-Team</I>" was mercifully spared, however, when Eddie Velez arrived on the scene as "Dishpan" Frankie Santana for the ugly 5th and final season.

Steven on Dynasty - Al Corley and Jack Coleman.

Fallon on Dynasty - Pamela Sue Martin and Emma Samms

Miss Ellie on Dallas - Barbara Bel Geddes and Donna Reed

Soaps are, of course, notorious for this due to their long runs. Better to narrow it down to prime time soaps.

I wouldn't call Ashley Olson an "actor." Mary Kate, on the other hand...

Berg's Parents on Two Guys and a Girl (and a pizza place in the early seasons).

Father was played by Howard Hessman originally, then Steve Landesberg

Mother was played by Cheyl Ladd and then Bo Derek.

C'mon! It was the Smallville of its day, only with much cheesier effects, worse acting, and far less popularity. :D

Actually, I really liked the show and you sure couldn't complain about Stacy Haiduk as Lana Lang:
