HDTV Receiver questions?
I recently got an HDTV ready TV, and I am looking into getting HDTV channels somehow. Let me explain my dilemna below:
I live in an apartment that faces north(in the DFW area) so I cannot get DirecTV or Dish Network since all the satellites are to the southwest.
1) What type of antenna will I need if/when I get an OTA HDTV receiver?
2) What price range should I expect on the basic receivers?
3) How many networks broadcast at least some content in HD?
4) I have only found a very few receivers for HDTV that are for OTA only. Where can I find a larger selection?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
In Dallas, WFAA (8), KXAS (5), KERA (13), and I think KDFW (4) all broadcast digital signals. All but FOX (KDFW) are HDTV. FOX is just digital, but not high definition.
Not sure about KTVT (11)
Apparantly KDAF (33) has an HDTV channel, now.
I do not know the HDTV channels for these stations. Sorry.

1. DFW is flat so an indoor antenna might work fine. Try the Zenith Silver Sensor from Sears or CC, about $30. If it doesn't work, go to something bigger but not too huge like a ChannelMaster 4-bay bowtie - it should fit on a balcony. Also check to see if your apt. complex has a big OTA antenna that you can just plug into.
2. Basic receivers start at about $300. There might still be some good post-Super Bowl open box deals too - check around at BB and CC. Price is totally worth it, esp. if the shows you usually watch are HD. Plus the final four this weekend and the Masters the next, so don't delay!!!
3. Already answered above. Check out 10000watts.com for tons of details, including digital channel numbers. One huge plus about DFW is that you get HDNET OTA while everyone else gets it only on sat.
4. HDTV is not yet big enough for stores to stock a huge selection of receivers. Check various on-line stores for details about recievers. Also be sure to check avsforum.com (the HDTV local and hardware forums) for more about DFW and about receivers.
Hope this helps.
