You do realize that even critics consider this to be one of the best shows on television right now?

And you could do the same post for just about any TV show...if you don't like it, don't buy it!

"Former first lady Barbara Bush said in an interview appearing in "people" magazine (september, 1990) that The Simpsons was the dumbest thing she's ever seen. Marge Simpson wrote mrs. Bush a letter give her a piece of her own mind. Surprisingly enough, mrs. Bush responded in two weeks with a letter asking for forgiveness for "a loose tongue".

In a speech of "The National Religious Broadcasters convention" (01/27/92), former president George Bush said: "The nation should mirror itself more to the Waltons, instead of The Simpsons". This time Groening responded: "Hey, The Simpsons are just like The Waltons, both families spend a lot of time praying for the end of the depression!"'

The Simpsons is still on the air. Where are THOSE two now?

Why? IMO The Simpsons is hilarious, with numerous pop culture references and great characters too. It's not that hard to understand why the draw is so great.

Another great thing about the simpsons is that it has the largest, most diverse and well developed group of supporting cast members on any tv show! The supporting characters are so well developed that it isn't uncommon to see episodes that revolve around them. Another reason why the simpsons were so great.

Unfortunetly they started to stray away from using them in the past few years instead oppting to put the simpson family in foreign places and give them really off the wall adventures, with and endless parade of guest stars. And the show has suffered because of it.

I thought this thread was going to be about why people would spend money on a show that's still showing 3 or 4 times a day in reruns (kinda like Friends).

There are people that love the Simpsons, and people that hate the Simpsons, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone buying their favorite shows on DVD. Personally, I love the Simpsons, and get really tired of them showing the same few episodes over and over on the syndicated shows.. I find that the DVDs go great with that book that came out a couple of years ago that goes through every episode.

I'm currently TIVOing Futurama on Cartoon network, and I love it. I would've definitely got into it earlier if it didn't change timeslots/get preempted every few weeks. Dunno about the DVD though... it's only the first (shortened) season, right?

Where's the guy who in the other thread in DVD Talk about April 15(?) releases with "The dorks here seem to get a over anything animated, even if it's crappy (simpsons, futurama, family guy, anime, etc) "

I personally buy the one's I like that I know I'll get more than one viewing out of....someone also mentioned they thought it would be why purchase it when its shown on tv....it seems that some seasons get ignored on syndication.....well, like I said...seems, could be wrong.
