Maher only calls Palin a **** because he agrees with her, and so does his audience which is why they find it so hil-ar-i-ous.

I remember him calling Palin a **** once but, I never heard heard him call any woman a whore, bitch, or a slut.

The point of govt. covering birth control pills is that they have SEVERAL OTHER medical applications and uses (in other words, they are not just for fucking)...why is it that people are far too thick to get this???

He called her that in his stand up act not on the show. I don't remember if he ended up calling her that on the show after the controversy, but it originated from the stand up act.

And she came out, he was very nice about how the witch thing blew up, and then she proceeded to continue to shove her foot in her mouth with the most asinine spewing of lies I don't even know if she believes them or not.

no one is arguing that fact. But Fluke wasn't testifying about her specific medical condition and that birth control for that condition was being denied, she was generally speaking about a students costs for 3 years of birth control and its such a horrible financial burden.

Last time I checked, college was for learning, not humping. Sexual intercourse is not required curriculum. If she wants to have sex at school, fantastic, the problem is that she wants insurance to fund her choice of lifestyle. That's not cool.

If she has a medical condition, then it's different. That's what medical insurance is for. Its like me asking my insurance to pay for Hodroxycut so I can pig out all the time. Pigging out is my choice, but you're gonna pay for me to prevent the weight gain associated with it.

I believe some?/most? insurance companies will pay for Viagra, so they seem to be willing to fund "that lifestyle."

The part I enjoyed the most was when he mentioned the false equivalency of democrats and republicans. This plagues too many all too often when people make blanket statements like "all politicians are corrupt" or "both parties screw us". I like that he addressed it.

Christine O'Donnell definitely has that odd current-day conservative view of Constitutional Amendments that only likes the 1st Amendment (well, some of it, as long as it's only their religion and their free speech that is allowed), the out-of-context secondary clause of the 2nd Amendment (ignoring the primary clause about well-regulated state militias), and the 10th Amendment, but then ignores every other Amendment as if they don't exist. (Particularly that pesky 14th Amendment, which took away the rights from the states to impinge upon individual rights.)


(However, Christine O'Donnell still sounded a lot smarter than Sarah Palin.)

So you think that everything/most everything that Maher presents on his show is nonfactual bullshit?

Please cite the number of college students...even 30-year-old 'students' such as Fluke...who require Viagra.

Viagra is used to treat a medical condition. A better analogy would be for insurance to cover hormone treatments for women.

Also, I don't think that college students routinely get vasectomies in order to engage in a promiscuous lifestyle. That's usually reserved for older adults who have decided they have enough kids...or don't want any kids to begin with. Again, I think that insurance would cover tubal ligations for women in addition to vasectomies for men (my insurance covered both).

Comparing birth control (except when prescribed as medical treatment) to treating medical conditions is comparing apples to oranges. Unless insurance pays for condoms for men, why should it pay for pills for women? It's like elective surgery...engaging in intercourse is a choice (despite the objections of those who think we are just animals and should drop our drawers whenever we feel an urge and mate in the streets).

You obviously either didn't read the posters above yours who explained how inexpensively monthly birth control can be purchase or you didn't believe their $ figures.

The question is NOT "how contraception works" but the cost. That's what Limbaugh was saying. I was merely pointing out that the $3,000 figure would be outrageous for the pill unless someone is too stupid to do comparison shopping (one would think that law students would have enough sense to do a little research). The only way that figure could be remotely accurate would be if the student were using condoms, and then it would require an extraordinary amount of condoms and instances of intercourse to add up to that figure.

Those who consider themselves experts on the cost of the pill should cite actual costs to support Fluke's statement rather than simply ridiculing her critics (who HAVE cited costs which are only a fraction of what Fluke maintains is needed). If Fluke was only talking about exceptional cases in which the pill was needed for reasons other than birth control, she should have made that clear (she did cite such cases in her testimony but I don't think it was ever determined how many women these special cases would apply to).

What's amazing is NOT that anyone would defend Limbaugh. What's amazing is how his critics put on blinders and abandon common sense to avoid seeing the satirical point he was making...the same way that Maher & other comedians (as well as politicians) use satire to score points.

The double standard is rampant on this particular issue, but that's nothing new.

Just caught the most recent Real Time (finished about 45 minutes ago), and Maher once again interrupted guests repeatedly (beginning with O'Donnell and continuing with the Politico guy). And the audience maybe didn't "hoot"...but they did boo and did loudly and skeptically voice their disapproval while O'Donnell was trying to talk).

However, Maher (and all other guests) appeared to be the picture of restraint compared to Katrina Van Dan Heuvel (or however she spells her name), who appears to be in love with her own voice. She is one of the most annoying guests ever, seemingly feeling that she had to speak up on practically every line of argument and speak over other guests. If liberals find Ann Coulter annoying, they have her match in this woman. She kept going off into La La Land & the other guests just looked impatient or confused at her hippy-dippy ramblings. I had to admire the restraint of the other panelists, who must have had to fight back the urge to serve up a large cup of STFU around the 20th time she jumped in to say, "I disagree" (or agree) and then proceed to give her take. Maher or one of the other guests would say something & we would hear a "But...." followed by a long-winded, lecturing discourse that monopolized an otherwise intelligent discussion.

With all of the B.S. she was issuing, it was no wonder that she so often had a manure-eating grin on her face. Ugh!

For a moment I thought you were talking about Clinton's DNC speech.
