The Cooler Show: Transformers or GI Joe?

In anticipation of the Joe disc next week and the Transformers just a bit after that, I pose this question: which is cooler - GI Joe or the Transformers, and why.

Transformers.

Two Words: Transforming Robots.

weargle 02-07-03 02:37 PM

And now we know, and knowing is half the battle.

didn't watch the cartoon all that much, but I was all over G.I. Joe toys and comic books

go Joe !

Pants 02-07-03 03:39 PM

I voted Transformers. I prefered the Transformers cartoon, but prefered GI Joe toys. I loved MASK and I don't see it as a ripoff.

GO-BOTS was for F@9s

Amadeus 02-07-03 03:48 PM

They both sucked!

sjrab16 02-07-03 05:09 PM

I liked the original GI Joe over Transformers. All though I always watched both shows. They seemed to always play right after each other when I was growing up.

So these DVDs that are coming out, are these the original? If they are the original 80's cartoon does this include the 3-4 elements that COBRA was trying to collect when the series first started?

Tarantino 02-07-03 05:19 PM

GI Joe for ever. It's all about in the GI Joe movie when they sport some blood. In the original ending, Duke was supposed to die.

Cool. Just plain cool.

TRANSFORMERS! More than meets the eye!

MrX 02-07-03 06:51 PM

GI Joe for me. I never got into Transformers.

I agree with Pants about MASK. I had a ton of the MASK toys.

CaptainMarvel 02-07-03 07:08 PM

G.I. Joe ... now if Cartoon Network would actually start playing some NEW episodes, I'd be set.

G.I. Joe or the old Transformers or freaking Care Bears are all better than this new Transformers: Armada puke that's out now.

Nazgul 02-07-03 07:30 PM

TF was a better cartoon, while joe had the much better comic. Joe toys were better as well.

Transformers. Robots In Disguise.

Hopefully Cartoon Network will pick up M.A.S.K. as well.

atari2600 02-07-03 11:45 PM

transformers.

Mopower 02-07-03 11:51 PM

Yo Joe! Ya can't beat em. I mean they had freaking Sgt. Slaughter and the Refridgerator Perry. All transformers had was energon cubes and Spike. Stupid Spike. The robot aspect was cool and all but they never had the epic battle of Joe. And transformers just got all weirded out in the later seasons. Well....Joe did too. I suppose.

JoeyOhhhh 02-07-03 11:58 PM

G.I. Joe, and apparently Clinton is a big fan also ;) http://www.geocities.com/spiritwrl//billcom.jpg

Yes, the GI Joe dvd coming this Tuesday contains the original 2 miniseries (A Real American Hero & The Revenge of Cobra) that aired before the official first season.

Aaron Amos 02-08-03 01:18 PM

I liked them equally. After watching a few episodes of Transformers: Armada I was :yack: . Give me the originals any day instead of these digimon knock off wannabes!

Captain Harlock 02-08-03 01:27 PM

I watched G.I. Joe this past summer for the first time in I'd say about ten years. I don't know but it just seemed so......lame. It really felt like a 30 minute infomercial for the cartoon. I know you're supposed to suspend your disbelief , but why would a polar trooper be running around the jungle in his white cold weather gear?

I'd like to see Cartoon Network do an updated version of G.I. Joe with a little more realism.

The one show that has held up remarkabley well over the years is Robotech. It really doesn't feel dated.

edytwinky 02-08-03 01:58 PM

Easily transformers

tasha99 02-08-03 03:23 PM

Um . . . Transformers (duh). They transform--GI Joe doesn't. :D

What you mean something like this - according to the 2003 Toy Fair press release from Hasbro:

"For the first time since the 1980s, Hasbro will introduce a new G.I. JOE movie! The 44-minute DVD movie, called "SPY TROOOPS: The Movie," will be included with each NINJA SHOWDOWN 12-inch figure 2-pack this fall."

The movie is being produced by Reel FX Creative Studios, and the Toy Fair is planned for this Sunday (2/16).

BTW - if you want to see their work, go check out their TV spots

Back in my grade school...

The cool kids watched GI Joe

The scifi geeks watched The Transformers

Morf 02-11-03 09:52 AM

Equally cool. But neither held a candle to the awesomeness that was He-Man.

subbacultcha 02-11-03 11:22 AM

Yup...I was way big into both of 'em.
But don't ever say that the M.obile A.rmored S.trike K.ommand was a ripoff!!!

subbacultcha 02-11-03 11:24 AM

oh yeah.....

I got one word for ya'.....

SCARLET!!!

How many of you can trace your affinity for red-heads back to that wonderful character?

Dr. DVD 02-11-03 11:39 AM

I loved them both. I wonder if G.I. Joe will be at my local B&M or if I will have to special order it. While I had more Transformers, I did have a lot of Cobra action figures as I owned the Terror Dome and needed to load it with bad guys.

For those who followed the movies of both series, (no need for spoiler tags I guess) the original plan in G.I. Joe the movie was to have Duke die, but after the lackluster reaction to Prime's death, they did some last minute dubbing to change his state to a coma.

Dr. Rosenrosen 02-11-03 01:36 PM

I mean, Serpentor? Sgt. Slaughter? A crock I say, a crock!

Transformers ruled. I'd love to hear Soundwave say "Ravage" one more time. To see the Dinobots with their brain enhancer thingies. To see them kick ass.

I loved the Transformers, and it was one of the few cartoons that changed things up. I mean, 'killing' Optimus Prime? Who'd a thunk it.

He-Man was also tremendously influential, if only for the numerous ways we knocked off the "I have the power" phrase to describe various other things one might have.

So you must not like Star Wars? or was that scifi geek?

Dr. Rosenrosen 02-11-03 01:50 PM

God bless the internet. I just feasted on some Soundwave mp3's. Aah.

I had forgotten how damn cool the whole transforming sound was.
