I saw Letterman live a few years ago. The guests were Damon Wayans and Harry Connick Jr. Pretty entertaining show to see live although Dave does not hang around at all once the show is done. He literally runs off the stage and says goodbye to the audience very quickly.

.... wow, come to think of it, all the good ones are gone; 24, X-Files, Firefly, Buffy...
There's always a few movies happening and some of the new pilots right now, but I guess you'd do better finding someone at a good studio like WB or something.
sorry.

I saw Letterman back in '94 and it was great. Sat on the aisle and got on camera several times during audience shots. Guests were Roseanne, Steve Young, and Tony Bennett. The best part was that Dave and Steve Young played dave's favorite game of throwing footballs into a trashcan and as they were going to break they threw some into the crowd. I caught a pass from Steve Young and still have the ball.
It is true that Dave runs off the set. I was really trying to get either Dave or Steve to autograph the ball but couldn't get it done.

The Jon Stewart Show (2nd to last show of its run...Elina Lowensohn, Marilyn Manson...before he it it big, and someone else)
The Daily Show (Joseph Gordon Levitt...pre-taped)
The Cosby Show (the one where Dick Vitale and Jim Valvano guest starred. Sat right near John Saunders from ESPN and Ottis Anderson formerly of the NY football Giants).

I saw a taping of "Kate and Allie" back in 1988 or so. Saw Letterman once that year as well.
I once saw a taping of the dumbest show ever made. "Baby Races" aired on the Family Channel, and they were taping it at Disney Studios in Orlando. Yes, it really was a show where they had 2 year olds performing all sorts of dumb stunts for prizes. The only thing that made it endurable was that my friends and I spent the entire taping doing stupid things in the backgrounds of some of the shots...and it actually made it on air.
Also, if you remember the MTV game show, "Remote Control," my friends and I are in the audience for about half of the shows from the fourth season. They filmed 4-5 episodes a day in NYC and we kept showing up because we were bored and had a fun time hanging out with Colin Quinn and Marc Cohen, who did audience warm up.

Nothing major. Tried to get into a taping of Friends at the height of its popularity and never got in.
I did see the show with Jamie Lee Curtis and Richard Lewis called Anything but Love taped. That was fun. Her Mom was in the audience too.
For the guy who worked for Springer. I have heard stories that it is all staged and they are not real guests. True or false?

I've seen about ten or so tapings of Letterman (i've sat in the first 4 rows about 90% of the time) one taping of the $1,000,000 Jeopardy anniversary tournament, and when i was 14, i saw a taping of the Bozo Show
.
Regrettably, i also saw a taping of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, and now they're asking me to go again (and i'm actually considering it?)
I'm also determined to see one taping of SNL some day, even though i'm guessing it'll end up being a bad show (when is it NOT?) and a waste of my time.

I sat in the audience for a taping of the Norm Show a few years ago and it was exhausting. It took 6 hours to complete. It was, however, fun and interesting to watch. By the final 2 hours 75% of the audience left the taping. The guy who played the Dad on "ALF" (Max Wright) was in the show and kept screwing up in every scene.

Situations were 100% as far as we knew, but we did hype people up.
An example I often use is: we had a show about a guy cheating on his wife with the neighbor girl. All 3 were there. Wife said, "next time you cheat on me, use these!" and she threw a handful of condoms in his face.
Situation: real
People: real
Condom toss: producer's idea

I used to go to games shows in NYC when I was a little kid. Knew people who worked on them so I got in very early and watched them do the rehearsal before the regular audience came in.
You'd be surprised at how rehearsed they are. And they're often better the first time.

I was at Letterman in March of 2001, their original line up was supposed to Vince Carter and some garage band... but since they had problems with the band and what-not, they told us they had gotten two special guests at the last minute...
Cokie Roberts and Uncle Kracker!!!!
It was pretty much done in real time.

When I was there, we were owned by a different syndicator than now, so I can only speak for when I was there...

I was on a kids show called Wonderama when I was a kid. My fifteen minutes of fame consisted of a studio full of kids jumping and screaming, and the camera zooming in on me dead asleep with my leg draped over a railing.
