24: Season 2 - Hour 11 - 02/04/03

Finally, it's back, the most compelling hour of TV!

It's Tuesday, Kim must be in danger.

So Kate and Jack are tied at the hip in search of Ali.

Marie popped Reza at close range.

Bob has no idea what's going on.

Mason's probably coughing up his other lung

Tony and his next CTU galpal are on the trail of something, I guess.

Lady MacPalmer has shown her evil side once more.

Stanton's going to be the fall guy, soaking up Palmer's attention for a while.

Palmer needs to find a clue and a spine.

Lynn's probablly looking stern again.

Stanton is cursed anyway. Look at who is playing him. Harris Yulin was just killed a few weeks ago on Buffy, he got the wool pulled over his eyes on Mister Sterling and now he is stuck with a independent Senator instead of a Democrat, and for some reason, I think that I might have seen him on Queens Supreme, which got booted after two or three shows (maybe not). Hei s having a hard time!

Stanton's going down, and Lady McPalmer is still one evil beotch!

No whiny kid (hopefully). Yay!

Will Ali kill Kim? We can only hope.

Well regarding Kim
Spoiler:
she runs from the cops, so she is still dumb as ever but as long as she keeps running, I am still entertained by her crap story.

also, as in the other thread, (which I deleted btw)
Since on the radio they had what appears to be a huge spoiler in it (and F/X spoils most of the 24 episode as well so fans who watch reruns of Mwc and Buffy, avoid the commercials)
If you sort of wanted to know what it was
Spoiler:
Jack and crew with Nina (or kate I couldn't tell) run in to a building to arrest Syead Ali (it seems like it) and then a timer counts down and then a bomb goes off with Jack and Kate or Nina screaming, so we can assume that something major happens tomorrow
I don't know if it is a spoiler but the announcer said "don't miss a shocking new 24 on fox".
Also this is the official thread.

F**k, more tv guide spoilers (in next weeks tv guide with afleck on the cover
Spoiler:
Now the terrorist is caught

also heres a story I got from etonline.com (
February 04, 2003
When the action drama "24" returns tonight following its two-week hiatus, the action takes place between 6-7 p.m. with still no clue where the bomb that threatens Los Angeles is located. Jack Bauer (KIEFER SUTHERLAND) has just rescued Kate Warner (SARAH WYNTER) from the clutches of Saed Ali (FRANCESCO QUINN), but time is growing short. Kate joins forces with the former CTU agent, who is the only one who has seen the terrorist.

Wynter, who joined the cast in its second season, tells ET, "It was odd, because I felt as if I was a bit late to the party, but it was certainly a great show. At least, I got to see what kind of a show I was going to be on, I really knew what I was in for, and I was thrilled that the show was doing so well. I was not just a castmember, but a viewer."

When the Australian-born actress signed on, the producers hinted that she might be a new love interest for Jack, whose wife was killed at the end of season one. A little more than a year's time has elapsed since that tragic event. So what is the prognosis?

"They just met," the blonde actress points out. "Don't forget it is just a day. When the producers said the relationship might develop, maybe they meant at the end of the season, or in future seasons."

Prior to joining the cast of "24," Wynter, who came to the U.S. about eight years ago to study acting, focused her sights on a film career. Her credits include 'Coastlines,' 'Moving August,' 'Bride of the Wind,' 'The 6th Day,' 'Lost Souls,' and 'Species II' -- most of which are independent films.

"It wasn't necessarily, "Oh, I think I want to do television now," she shares. "The role came up and I thought, 'Oh, it probably won't be that interesting. It will probably be just a girl part.' Then I read it and spoke to the producers and found out it was the kind of character that could develop, and also be a potential love interest to Kiefer Sutherland. It seemed a very sweet offer."

Wynter was also attracted by the strength of the character, and the fact that Kate is flawed and grappling with family problems.

"I like that a show like '24' presents their characters as not perfect, not black or white, not good or bad," Wynter adds. "They're very gray in areas. Even Kiefer, who is the hero of the show, does some pretty terrible things and makes mistakes, so it is interesting."

a story about 24 giving away too many plot points (I blocked out a spoiler for the coming weeks
Tuned In: '24' keeps surprises coming despite revealing previews
Tuesday, February 04, 2003

By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor

HOLLYWOOD -- After spending its first season as a cult hit, Fox's "24" (9 tonight) has seen its ratings rise as it develops a more broad-based following. Yet Fox seems intent on souring the show's original fans by giving away too much in promos and previews.

It's not so much that the spots say exactly what will happen, but by showing snippets of scenes from the last five or 10 minutes of an episode, the promotions build up expectations. Viewers find themselves waiting to see why Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) is reacting in horror to an open trunk or who's pulling a gun on Reza (Phillip Rhys).

"In all fairness, I don't understand why they give away as much as they do, especially when the whole nature of the show is based on that thriller aspect of the surprise," said series star Kiefer Sutherland at a Fox party last month. "I do think they give too much away."

So how about a 20-minute rule? The people who create promos for prime-time series -- Fox isn't the only network to ruin plot twists this season -- would agree to use scenes only from the first 20 minutes of an episode.

"I think that's a great idea," said "24" executive producer Howard Gordon. "I don't think we've been hurt by it, not lethally, but it's damaged some peoples' enjoyment of the next week's episode."

Fox Entertainment president Gail Berman said the network will look more carefully at "24" previews. "It may just be that we have so much inside information, we know where all this stuff is going that it isn't surprising to us."

"24" -- each episode is one hour; a 24-episode season constitutes a single day -- returns tonight with a new installment after a two-week hiatus that followed a shocking revelation: Middle Easterner Reza wasn't in league with terrorists; his lily-white fiancee, Marie (Laura Harris), is the bad guy. She even shot Reza.

At the same time, last year's snake in the grass, Sherry Palmer (Penny Johnson Jerald), appeared to be in league with government officials plotting against her ex-husband, President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert).

Gordon said at one point early in the planning of this season, producers intended to make Marie and Kate's father the one in league with terrorists. But the story of American Taliban John Walker Lindh persuaded them to go with Marie.

Gordon said having one season of "24" behind them both helps and haunts the writers. In season one, Jack was involved more directly because his wife, Teri (Leslie Hope), and daughter, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert), were kidnapped. Killing off Teri gave producers a "new emotional groundwork" for Jack at the start of the second season.

"If he had saved Teri, it would have been resetting the dial and there would be no place to go," Gordon said. "Every year has its own new challenge. We did learn a thing or two about last year, and we're testing the limits and viability of this format."

Plans for a third season are under discussion, with the seeds to be sown in May's second season finale. Judging by online discussion of "24," many fans would be relieved if the third season does not include Kim Bauer.

"I'd chain her to a desk. She has to learn to listen," Sutherland joked about what he would do if his daughter behaved like Kim. "I think it's the one [story] we've had the most negative reaction to."

Gordon agreed: "We know it's a fine line with her, and we are very aware of it, and we're challenged by it."

How to keep some of the show's more beloved characters may also become an issue. It's difficult enough to believe Palmer would allow his manipulative ex-wife into his inner sanctum this year; how could he do it again in year three?

"Either they reconcile or they don't," Gordon said. "That will really determine what their involvement is next year. I will say, we tend to go to the place of 'What can't happen?' and write to it. So they could [get back together]. Who knows. As long as we keep ourselves surprised, then it's fun to write, and presumably, it's fun to watch."

Fun trumps realism, especially in year two.

"I think we talk fast enough and it looks cool enough that audiences are able to forgive the heightened situation that my character finds himself in," Sutherland said. "As implausible as this sometimes may seem, we do make a real effort to try and bring as much reality to it as we can."

Michelle Forbes ("Homicide: Life on the Street") was added in the fall as presidential aide Lynne Kresge.Even though actors often worry about the motivation of their characters, Forbes said the lack of knowledge about where the story on "24" heads is liberating. Though her character has been blindly devoted to President Palmer thus far, she's not concerned about whether that flip-flops further into the season.

"It works on this show," she said. "Look at Nina last year. A good liar is going to act as if they're telling the truth."

As part of the Palmer inner sanctum, Kresge has come head to head with Sherry, who's weaseled her way back into the president's life.

Spoiler:
"I think Lynne wants to slap her silly. We have a scene coming up in an elevator that I think is just hysterical. And I think in episode 18, it's topless mud wrestling."

Maybe not mud wrestling, but Gordon confirmed a fight between the two is in the show's future, welcome news to Jerald, who is trained in stage combat.

"You get more emotional pain when a husband and wife go at it," she said, "but when you have two women butting heads, it's much more exciting. You get that delicious catfight side of things."

Well, not too bad an episode although it drags on, here are the highlights with my commentary :

Spoiler:

Kim makes a usual ass of herself by running away (still bra-less!) and getting her foot stuck in a trap with a coulgar or something chasing her. The saddest part is that it does not kill her.
The president arrests the head of NSA and puts him to the torture to get him to talk, but it stops there, I'm hoping that they torture him a lot more since he is annoying.
Sherry doesn't stop meddling, she had better die else I will be very unhappy.
You don't see Nina at all this episode.
Marie Warner is running after important parts for the bomb and changes her looks and goes on some guy to get what she wants.
The father goes crazy and is fun to see, it seems to hit him real hard when they show him a file at the end, but we don't see what is in it (I'm assuming it's pictures from the murder scene).
Jack and Kate are chasing after Siad in the mosque but he eludes them, this should be a fun chase although I don't see where in there he could hide unless it has some hidden exits.

All in all, I enjoyed about half the show, but it could have been better. A few people dying such as Kim for her incessant idioty and Sherry for her constant meddling would really improve the show my opinion.

Next weeks should be quite a bit better.

mmm... slutty whore...

Anyway - The episode has had it's moment so far, for one reason or another I liked the disguise in prayer place bit. And it's definitly getting a bit more tense as it goes - guess it just needed a mild warm up after the hiatus (2 so far this season hopefully the American Idol lead-in will help, tho I doubt it)

Edit: Not as much happened as I would have liked - or has in the past few weeks - and they advertised the rest of the season it seems (that's been complete) instead of just this ep last week. Next weeks looks like fun, but it sucks that -

Spoiler:
they showed marie captured in last weeks preview, WTF is WRONG WITH FOX

Oh well, still good stuff.

Just a question, do cougars actually live on the loose in L.A.?

Spoiler:
As stupid as may sound, I hope it eats Kim. I betcha that in the next episode, the cougar will try to sense Kimmy's brain and find out that she is too dumb to be eaten.

AMEN CHAD,

I was praying that Tiger would devour KIMMY!

All she ever seems to do is run for her life with her boobs bouncing all over the place and looking scared!

Just kill her off already

I actually like her character... it's pretty good comic relief to see just how deep of a hole she can dig for herself. Seriously... while everybody else is off in L.A. dealing with nuclear bombs and terrorists, she's off in the wilderness about to be eaten by mountain lions? Most people couldn't ACT that dumb on purpose.

Next episode, she falls into a well, where a firefighter rescues her, but the firefighter is also a serial killer, but she manages to escape from him by hiding in an abandoned building, but the building is scheduled for demolition, but she manages to escape the building before it's blown up, but in the process she's trapped in a white slavery prostitution ring and brought to Las Vegas, but she's rescued by an underworld mobster with a heart of gold, but he's killed by his crime lord bosses, but she escapes the casino and takes a bus back to L.A., but she freaks out for some reason and makes the bus crash on the way, which makes it teeter on the edge of the Grand Canyon (warping space and time, since the Grand Canyon isn't between L.A. and Vegas), but she's rescued by a state patrolman, but the state patrolman happens to Bob Warner's cousin (who's in on Sayed Ali's plot), who kidnaps her. She of course manages, by sheer dumb luck, to escape at the end of the episode. All that in an hour.

Then, in the next episode, she gets her shoelace caught in an escalator...

I agree with the no Holy Sh*t part.

I detest Kim and her storyline. It is getting to the point now where I picture in picture it and watch hockey when she is on. Do the producers realize that most people may have actually wanted the cougar to devour her? I know that I did...

I didn't think it was a bad episode. Though I am really getting tired of the show building up a huge confrontation between certain characters (like Swat and Bauer versus Ali) only to have them stand down and simply wait until the clock hits 6:56 pm and then have them run in, only to have it end in a huge cliff hanger that always seems to get resolved within the first five minutes of the next episode.

Exactly what I was thinking too. Having a cliffhanger episode is getting a little tiring

No, it wasn't the greatest hour of the season, but after a few weeks off, I was very into the episode. The dad going nuts was great.

As for Kim, I got in a good 5 seconds of watching her run around, and then proceeded to skip right past her parts with the replay. I swear it was invented for this sole purpose!
