You can't deny that he is a good actor.

And I'm not so narrow in my tastes as to exclude Chiklis from my roving "bear" eye. Although, he was far, far hotter when he had the belly on "The Commish" than he is in slap-happy "Shield" mode.

I also just caught the re-airing tonight and this is why Chiklis and The Shield won Golden Globes tonight and Gandolfini and The Sopranos did not. I am a big fan of The Sopranos but this past season pales in comparison to The Shield.

I'm not even sure what an Arab technically is, let alone what constitutes an Arab-American. I can only assume it starts with the Arabian peninsula and includes Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Yemen, and smaller guys like Qatar and Bahrain. But where do you draw the line? Egypt? Iraq? Jordan, Israel, Lebanon? I guess I'd need a broader definition to address your claim.
However, I can say that I've seen many strong Middle Eastern characters, most often portrayed as doctors. There seem to be a lot of roles for Middle Eastern and Indian doctors. I can't think of any recurring starring roles offhand, except maybe Oded Fehr on Presidio Med (and UC: Undercover last season). And I don't think Monk's heritage is ever really discussed (which I imagine should be a good thing), but Shaloub definitely portrayed an immigrant in Wings which for you trivia buffs also starred Amy Yasbeck (another of Lebanese descent), so it's not like it's a secret.
I can see your point, though. I do think there are many everyday Arab-American characters on television; they're just very "Americanized," and there's not a big arrow telling the audience "this guy's an Arab."

Ya know, I have absolutely no idea why I typed that. That's what I get for posting from work. I meant to say "immigrant" but I guess the term "Arab-American" was on my mind. Guess that's what I get for not paying attention when I post. Thanks for the correction -- it sounds more stupid each time I read it.
