I loved this episode. At first I thought alternate universes were reserved for Star Trek and Sliders but the whole concept worked at the beginning of the ep. The card with Nate's death was just jaw dropping for me. Like everyone else I get the feeling that things are not quite what they seem. The whole rent-a-cop thing seems really out of character with Keith even with all the anger issues from last season. The whole marriage to Lisa just doesn't seem natural even with a near death (or actual death or whatever) experience for Nate. I guess we'll just see where they take us.

It has to be a dream, because no die-hard vegan would suddenly start eating tuna because she "needs the protein". Bah. That part really bugged me. An expert vegan chef would be eating lots of soy products.

I hate it when characters sell out their own beliefs.

The whole "Did he die, did he live, what is real, what isn't" seemed more overt at the beginning. I felt exploited. Maybe I'm just over-sensitive to that sort of thing. The show always has had a lot of subtlety, something I thought last night's episode lacked.

As a vegetarian that part bugged me, too, but it seemed a minor thing...

Did anybody see the scene where Nate Sr. was eating the plate of fenugreek as an homage to the food scenes in Defending Your Life, and the grilled sausages as an homage to several scenes from The Sopranos?

Anyone think that the Lili Taylor character isn't long for the season (comment about being tired all the time)? This may tie in with Nate's dream where he and Brenda are going up the stairs with the baby.

Whoopsey Daisy.

I was such in hysterics for having Six Feet Under back.

Or maybe I have a hard on for Lily Tomlin.

Spoiler:
Nate is still on the operating table.

I would say that's a good assumption.

I'm as excited as anyone else about the switch to widescreen, but am I the only one who, at first glance, thought it cramps one of the best credit sequences in TV history? Could be my imagination, as I haven't done the frame-to-frame comparison that I'm sure someone's working on out there.

Looks like Rico is turning into quite the ass. Too bad, I always liked his character.

I thought the first 20 minutes of the show were very compelling, but aside from that, it just didn't have the edge I've come to expect.

I was hoping that in one of Nate's "alternate realities," he would've awakened as a anchorman on a sports news show. That would've been great!

Still a great show, but I hope it improves over last night's showing.

I stayed up until 3:30 to watch "Dear Louise" on Comedy Central last night.

OK, why did that happen?
Shock therapy. Leave this to me, I'm gonna knock the writer's block right outta you.
By throwing water in my face?
By surprising you with the unexpected. That was step one. There's not going to be any more water.
What's step two?

Yeah. Also have them all on VHS and VCDs (with kickass menus I made that are better than the DVDs). Problem with the DVDs is if I watch one, I'll want to watch them all, and I've done that too many times already.

Maybe Nate isn't the real father of Lisa's baby...

Maybe Lisa DIES soon, and when Brenda comes back, she and Nate take care of the baby........

The baby's future isn't too bright if Brenda eventually becomes her Mother. She'll leave her with her worthless brother, and she'll wind up in Bangkok.

did anyone else get the impression that lisa was unhappy? could be post-partum but the baby is 9 months old, i got the feeling she was irritated with nate for some reason

I think it was a boy too.

The thing that freaked me out the most was the whole "baby in the family bed" thing. All three of them are sleeping in the same bed? I dunno if I think a 9-month old should be continuing to do that.

Also, I have found many MANY things that are urking me about these storyline directions! J.P. Pitoc has certainly let himself go to $hit since Trick! His presence somehow makes me think it is all in Nate's head...

Things that urk me:
Lisa and Nate married
Lisa and Ruth relationship with baby
David and Keith (and freakish co-dependency with no friends)
Claire and falling back into her Gabe-era "slacker" ways.

I do, however, LOVE Catherine O'Hara's bitchy-psycho producer character though. "You don't have to move it NOW... though you should move it SOONER than later."

actually, i've found that it's relatively common! for instance, my b'friend said that his parents never even bought him a crib when he was born. he slept with them! not that i agree, but it seems that a lot of people do it.

I'd roll over and crush a child if it slept in the same bed as me...

Same here. I'd NEVER get to sleep fearing I'd crush the kid. I swear I have read that this is an unadvisable child rearing technique specifically because of this suffocation danger.
