the Cowbell is ON NOW!!! (SNL)

I've got comedy central on right now and an episode that began with Will Ferrell as GW and Dana Carvy as Daddy Bush is on - with Host Christopher Walken....i may be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure that the cowbell/bruce dickinson skit is in this episode...as discussed in a recent thread but i thought the heads up would be more effective this way....

fyi: it started at midnight EST after the new colin quinn show.....don't know how the Comedy Central schedule works it's way across the time zones...

edit: yep...this is the one...first skit after the monologue....give me more cowbell!!!

HistoryProf 12-19-02 11:13 PM

and another thing... :D

I might add that Will Ferrell looks almost EXACTLY like my dad ca. late 70s early 80s...the glasses and hair make the look :)

Copenhagen 12-19-02 11:13 PM

Yup I have it listed here at 12am PST....thanks for the heads up :)

BDB 12-19-02 11:33 PM

have I missed it yet, just came in at 9:30...

Copenhagen 12-19-02 11:34 PM

read my post above....I'm just east of you

HistoryProf 12-19-02 11:47 PM

one question.......is the Phil Hartmen voice-over opening for "the Continental" sketch a posthumous appearence?

BDB 12-19-02 11:47 PM

ah yes but I get the east coast feed. so I am watching now.

the continental is on and there is 10 mins left, I missed the 1st 1/2 hour :(

BDB 12-20-02 12:00 AM

Yes it is, since the episode is from 2000. They just used the voice-over from the old Continental sketch.

I caught the Cowbell sketch and no matter how many times I've seen it, it still makes me laugh. :D

Hmmm... given that these don't look like sites approved by SNL, I'm going to have to remove the links.

You can get the whole skit off deleted - Static. Just make sure its the 59 MEG one.

Other than the Iron Maiden singer, is there some meaning to the name Bruce Dickenson? I've always wondered since it's metioned so often in the skit.

necros 12-21-02 01:55 AM

yeah I just watched it, it was funny as hell, but the only Bruce Dickenson I know and love is from Iron Maiden, but back when this song was made wasn't he kinda young? I could see a band nowadays idolozing him, but 25 years ago?

Snowmaker 12-21-02 09:35 AM

I think its just a joke because, in the skit, someone or he refers to himself as the "one and only" Bruce Dickinson.

HistoryProf 12-21-02 12:45 PM

Iron Maiden started in the Late 70s with a different singer....Dickinson arrived in the early 80s....I don't think it's supposed to be taking place 25 years ago though, it's a present day 'session'....hence the humor of it all :) As any state fair attendee can tell you, bands like BOC continue to tour and continue to dress the same as they did 20 years ago ;)

Josh-da-man 12-21-02 01:56 PM

There are two different Bruce Dickinsons, one sings for Maiden and the other worked with BOC and Cheap Trick, among others.

If they used a "one and only" tag, it might've been a subtle joke by a writer familiar with Maiden.

And they continue to ROCK. :) Dude, they're burnin', they're burnin', they're burnin' for me!

Babies, before we're done here, y'all are gonna be wearing gold-plated diapers!!!

Whenever I'm driving and Reaper comes on the radio, I can't help but start pounding the steering wheel right where the cowbell should come in. I then break into hysterics, and then start to feel a little sorry for BOC, knowing that whenever they play Reaper live, there are always gonna be a few idiots like me in the crowd who would be screaming for "More cowbell!!!!" and dancing around like Gene (may he RIP).

Am I the only one.....?

DVDcrazy4life 12-23-02 04:29 PM

You can download the cowbell skit off Kazaa!

In the beginning of the skit it has across the bottom of the screen

"Sunshine Studios, August 1976"

This was supposed to be the first time they were recording this.
One of the band members also syas something to the effect of "Don't screw this up for us" - indicating that this was their shot at the big time.
