This is cracking me up! The whole crew (N’Pol and Porthos aside) are running high on methamphetamine. This writer has to have had lived with tweakers before. This is exact!

As for the episode. Blah. I could bash it by saying, "TNG redid the ToS- The Naked Time in their third episode (The Naked Now) of the first season, and after 2 seasons that's the best they can do?" But I won't.

What I'm loving is that (like Requiem for a Dream) the acting in this captures exactly how people tend to behave on this particular substance. It's so accurate that it's giving me scary flashbacks to one of my former lifestyles. Chilling! (Funny, too.)

I thought it was a mild formulatic show. Big surprise there. but there was more 'star trek universe' development and character development.

I'm not a military man but don't they already use a system with Red Alert? Red Alert isn't exactly copyrighted by mr. Berman. I thought that part was pretty ridiculous.

and why isn't T'Pol effected by the radiation? I mean radiation isn't exactly species specific like a virus. It basically should affect everyone in a similar way since their molecules are the same. Or is Vulcan blood and CSF made out of Lime Jello. it is green isn't it?

Copper (not iron) is their oxidizing agent. Phlox mentioned seratonin and other glandular excretions, maybe Vulcans don’t have those, but Dynobulans(sp?) do.

Seriously, what did this for me was the acting. All that was missing was a close up of their dilated pupils and the sound effect of their teeth grinding. I also liked the moral at the end. “Our obsessions brought out the best in us.”

I did do some of my best drawings and have some of my best comic book ideas back in my speed days. Problem is: You cannot sustain that level of obsessive and euphoric creativity (remaining sane and/or alive). I loved this episode for very personal reasons.

This was the first episode of the season that I enjoyed! Yes, both TOS and TNG did this schtick, but it worked.

I thought Trip (what an approriate moniker this week ) was going to change the captain's chair so radically that he ended up with the Kirk Throne.

I did find it a bit ironic that Malcom was a total screw-up in last week's episode, and all of a sudden he's the hero because of his tactical "genius"? Are the writers paying attention? I doubt this was intentional.

"Reid Alert", yeah, uh-huh. The term "Red Alert" existed in the military before ToS was on the air. Being that Malcom has his roots in the Royal Navy, you'ld think he'd know this. Writers are sleeping again.

Ah, that explains Tweak on South Park.

That, and I thought it was a bit of a stretch to think that the Enterprise didn't have some sort of auto-pilot to help guide it through that asteroid field. With the advanced instrumentation on the ship, you'd think that was a no-brainer.

I thought this episode was hilarious. I laughed through most of it. I really wanted Phlox to cut that guy's head open (i forget his name), that would have been classic.

Well, they only needed 16 minutes or so to go thru all the crap. And, if they had done that (gone back), they wouldn’t have been able to blow stuff up.

OR! They could have gone up or down (Z-axis) and gotten out even quicker. (“Two-dimensional thinking.” ST:III) But, again, they wouldn’t have been able to blow stuff up.

See, they needed to blow stuff up.

I liked this the other times I saw it when it was called the Naked Now and Naked Time
(I think those were the titles)

That would have been too easy. Most future ships rarely used auto-pilot and I don't really recall if the TOS Enterprise had that capability (it probably didn't).
