For the most part - I agree with Skinner's final quote/last line of the episode. Summed up the ep almost perfectly.
Though there were some funny parts, it just wasn't very good.

I thought the episode was very good until the last act. It was a bit anti-climatic. Otherwise, this episode brought back good memories of the classic Simpsons episodes.

I didn't like it. The best part of the episode was the opening like Get Smart.

I liked everything up til the presentation of the flag.
The final act was flat. But the first was friggin hilarious.

I probably reminded people of the older episodes because it started the same as the one when they got cable. I found the whole first act irritating because it was almost like watching a rerun. It was like a typical Family Guy episode. The main plot was pretty pointless, but there were some hysterical moments like vomiting Brokaw.

Also I was disappointed with the reference to the current flag where someone said "but we're in the North" (referring to the confederate flag). The show so far has managed to keep ALL references to Springfield's location vague (e.g. the Edison episode where Bart and Homer pass a road sign that points to multiple known city destinations in a way that makes it impossible to figure out where Springfield is).
This epsiode overall was weak. I did laugh some but clearly it is falling apart (what was up with those hillbillies showing up at the last minute - and how did Bart and Lisa end up with backpacks instead of the fanny packs Marge gave them?). I actually just watched "Homer Vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment" from Season 2 the other night on DVD and was saddened to see it rehashed like that.

Actually one of the recent episodes had Homer wanting to drive somewhere and Marge saying "That's XX miles from here (like about 30)" or similar. Can't remember the city or the exact distance, but I do remember thinking that if I had a map of the US, I'd be able to work out what cities were within XX miles.

As for this episode, I thought it was funny.

I thought this was both funny AND annoying. I thought I read somewhere that Groening believes that The Simpsons and Futurama co-exist... meaning that Futurama happens later in the future of The Simpsons timeline. Therefore only the Simpsons could show up on Futurama as a flashback or something like that.

Fry did find Bart Simpson dolls on the garbage meteor.
