Help me suck a friend in: The 4 best season 1 Babylon 5 eps
So, like most fans of Babylon 5, I've got a friend who resistant to watching the show (isn't that how 80 percent of us started out?). I know him and his tastes, and I know the show would work for him if he just gave it a chance - it's now just blind stubbornness and general principal.
So, I've made a deal - just watch 4 episodes. If you're not sold by then - or at the very least intrigued, then I'll back off.
So, I need help from you guys. What 4 first season episodes should I put on that'll land him hook line and sinker? I've only got one shot, so I don't want to blow this. And it's gotta be first season because I dont have anything else on tape any more (And only a handful of laserdiscs - mostly 1st season also).
Thoughts?

Well, putting aside all lectures about how the series has to be watched in order and all, I'd have to say that "Signs and Portents" and "Chrysalis" are musts. "Babylon Squared" is another option, but it may be a little bit too confusing (though it could also leave your friends with a burning desire to see the whole story behind that one). As for the fourth one, well, use your judgement. "And the Sky Full of Stars" is a good one that moves along the Sinclair story arc, so it might be a good option. Or you could just show them the first four and if they survive "Infection," show them the rest.

I've actually done this about a dozen times over the years -- to get people addicted, I show them "And the Sky Full of Stars," "Signs and Portents," "Babylon Squared," and "Chrysalis."
It almost always works.

I'd say:
1) Either "And the Sky Full of Stars" or "Mind War"
2) Signs and Portents
3) Babylon Squared
4) Chrysalis

If your friend is a Trekker, I would make "Mind War" one of the episodes, although Walter wasn't at his best in this episode.
"And The Sky Full Of Stars" - Definately
"Signs and Portents" - Definately
"Chrysalis" - Cliffhanger, which should leave them wanting more.

I'd go with Mind War (this was the first episode I ever saw)
Signs and Portents
Babylon Squared
Chrysalis
That should do it

I only said TKO, as from what I've read it seems to be everyone's most hated episode. I didn't find it that bad, but it certainly wasn't among my favorites.

I say use Josh's list, with Mind War assuming your friend is a Trek fan. I especially like Babylon Squared, due to it being a set up for a great two parter later in the series.
