More on Clone Wars Season 3
Sat, May 08, 04 05:11:08 AM EDT

Cartoon Network's Art Director, Paul Rudish was recently interviewed by Star Wars en Direct during one of their radio shows. Here's what he had to say about the possibility of another season of the Clone Wars cartoon.

SWD: Is there any chance that a third season of Clone Wars will be made?

PAUL RUDISH: There are talks happening between the powers that be, and what happens, I don't know yet because I'm farther down the ladder.

SWD: Is there time to do one more season before EP3?

PAUL RUDISH: Well that's just it, they better decide soon...
Interesting stuff. I would love to see another season.

Why not, they just have to make enough animation to equal one episode of any other series.

I wish they would drop the 3 minute format and at least make them long enough to show 2 per show. 10-13 minutes each plus commercials=1/2 hour shop. The current one were very rushed because they were so short.

grunter 05-10-04 04:11 PM

Wherever will they find the time to come up with another WHOLE HOUR of animation?

Fok 05-10-04 11:35 PM

It will probably be more interesting if they make them after Ep3 is released. By then all the questions will be answered allowing more interesting storylines.

Jackskeleton 05-11-04 02:17 AM

Yeah, but by then a lot of jedi's will be done with. Perhaps that would be an interesting turn of events. A series showing the end of all jedi's.

Consider lucas snagged him away from Samurai Jack, might as well put him to good use.

Shemp 05-11-04 09:18 AM

There are serious talks going on about this with Lucas wanting this to happen more than Cartoon Network.

The idea right now being that they would produce five 11-minute episodes that would be a direct ramp-up to Episode III in terms of plot. Meaning, these 5 episodes would tie directly into the beginning of the movie. The plan is for them to premiere in April '05.

From what I understand the creators of 'Clone Wars' would produce these as well.

buzzdalf 05-11-04 10:59 AM

I hope they make this!!

SunMonkey 05-11-04 11:28 AM

I have yet to get to see Season 2, but I'd like to see this eventually.

I think he meant that it could still be set before episode three, but if it aired after it's release the plot lines could be more detailed and in depth as there'd be no concern about spoiling any plot points in Ep. 3.

Ranger 05-11-04 11:52 AM

I dunno. I think they gave us enough to lead us to episode III. But I'd still love to see more cartoons.

Morf 05-11-04 11:57 AM

Hell, I want to see a Star Wars cartoon series that takes place between Episodes III and IV. Gimme gimme!

Nothing solid yet, but more strong rumors:

I think they'd be pretty foolish not to release the DVD shortly before Ep 3 hits theatres. I wish they'd at least get the first season out ASAP as I've only seen them on the computer. I want them on my WS tv in 5.1 dammit!

buzzdalf 06-07-04 10:52 AM

milo - I'm not advocating anything, but I heard there is a very well done fan made DVD for the complete series out as a bit torrent. Anamorphic, commentaries and everything.
It might hold some folks over till they actually get around to releasing this.

milo bloom 06-08-04 10:01 PM

Thanks buzz, I'll try to see what I can dig up.

And Theforce.net is now reporting that March will see five 12 minute episodes. Very exciting news IMHO. I hope these do even better than the first ones, I'd love to see animators take on some stuff like Shadows of the Empire and the Dark Empire trilogy, or even Zahn's trilogy.

The Clone Wars Micro-Series Continues!
June 08, 2004

Following the immense success of the first 20 chapters of the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Cartoon Network will continue the saga with five new expanded chapters beginning March 21, 2005.
Once again helmed by Genndy Tartakovsky, Star Wars: Clone Wars continues where Chapter 20 left off, but in a new format. Whereas previous installments were just three minutes long, each new chapter will be 12 minutes, promising viewers four times the excitement, adventures and intrigue as they lead into the long-awaited finale to the saga, Star Wars: Episode III.

Tartakovsky, the talent behind the critically acclaimed Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory, will return as director, co-screenwriter and executive producer of the new Star Wars: Clone Wars animated mini-series. Cartoon Network will air the new chapters from March 21 to March 25 with limited commercial interruptions. These new installments are planned to appear online to members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club.

The first twenty chapters -- still available for download to Hyperspace members -- featured such fabled characters as Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker in the ongoing battle of the Army of the Republic against a vast uprising spearheaded by the Separatists and their massive droid armies. Chapter 20 introduced viewers to General Grievous, military leader of the Separatist armies, and a major character in next year's Star Wars: Episode III. The new mini-series will include an expanded role for Grievous.

"We were really impressed with the quality of the animation and the storytelling abilities that Cartoon Network and Genndy brought to the first Star Wars: Clone Wars episodes, and clearly viewers were, too, because the feedback we received about the micro-series was fantastic," said Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing. "This new mini-series will bring even more depth and excitement to the story of the Clone Wars and will lead viewers right into the adventures of Star Wars: Episode III."

"It is a tremendous honor for Cartoon Network to have been selected by Lucasfilm to produce these new Star Wars stories, because the Star Wars saga is one of the most popular and successful entertainment properties in the world," said Jim Samples, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Cartoon Network Worldwide. "Genndy thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative relationship we built with Lucasfilm during the production of the first Clone Wars episodes, and is terribly excited now to be entrusted with furthering the storyline and working with such popular and enduring characters. This will truly be a 'must-see' for Star Wars fans and animation lovers."

Fok 06-10-04 01:29 PM

I think it would be also cool if they made the a Star Wars movie with the using the same CGI format as Final Fantasy.
Either way, I'm looking forward to another season.

PalmerJoss 06-10-04 05:12 PM

This is very good news to me, as the Clone Wars shorts were better than the previous 2 films, IMO. I look forward to the eventual dvd release of the previous seasons, and to watching the new season next spring.

"Clone Wars" season 2 details

Genndy Tartakovsky, producer of the animated Clone Wars series for Cartoon Network, revealed that upcoming episodes of the series will feature longer segments and tie in to the upcoming theatrical feature Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. "We're doing 12-minute episodes this time, as opposed to the three-minute episodes last time," Tartakovsky said. "It really allows us to open up both character development and action."

Tartakovsky added that the five new chapters will relate to information that appears in the traditional opening scroll crawl in Episode III. The shorts will also feature a new character, General Grievous, who will "be the new villain in Episode III." Cartoon Network begins airing the new episodes on March 21, 2005.

Glad he finally convinced Lucas to allow him to lengthen the episodes. Originally Lucas only wanted 1 minute episodes -screwy- . Until Genndy explained to him he couldn't tell a coherent story in one minute.

Jackskeleton 10-02-04 07:09 AM

nice. looking forward to all that. Glad they expanded the episodes. 1 minute was crazy talk.

Rizor 10-03-04 11:25 AM

The 1 minute idea reminds me of that Conan O'Brien spoof of 24. :D

BenCJedi 10-05-04 05:35 PM

Cool news! Thanks!
