CSI - 10/31/02

So Grissom knows the mating habbits of insects in Uganda at a moment's notice, but he's enamored, even obsessed, with a guy palming a freaking coin? Look, Grissom, I can pull a quarter from behind your ear!
And the great Zephyr's super magic trick is a smoke filled chamber with a trap door? Must have taken that kickass "inventor" to come up with that one.
The B story with the rock star wasn't too bad, though.

P.S. Look Grissom ... I pulled off my thumb!

This was the first episode of CSI that I've ever watched and I wasn't too impressed. I particularly thought the "revelations" some of the cast had were silly.
*Grissom knows about Uganda insects out of the blue...
*Grissom knows the history of the word Abracadabra...
*The female investigator is able to find the page the rock star thumbed to in a closed phone book...
Does every CSI investigate two separate crimes? This really threw me off. I kept thinking they must be related somehow.

I find most of the episodes to be pretty silly, but to be fair ...
I made the Uganda thing up ... it was just an example (but I assume you mean his knowledge of the butterfly). An infrequently-used thickly-bound book will often open to the last place, especially if creased.
Still, Grissom does typically know everything about everything (unless it doesn't serve the plot ... a sign of poor writing), and I'm often not impressed with their leaps (or lack of) in logic to push the plot forward.
The two crimes approach is standard. I like the approach, mainly because I like Catherine's character, and Helgenberger plays it very well. It's good to get her off on her own solving crimes while Grissom plays "look how smart I am."

Looks like that reunion might continue in a future episode.

That would be a great idea for them at this point...I think Grissom needs some sort of good rivalry going on that show.
AND needs to throw off those intuitive empath abilities of his...I mean, at least have him accessing a computer to give the appearance of realism.

Okay, to be fair Grissom has extensive training in entomology. That's been established in a a lot of episodes.

No kidding, the last shot of seeing the key in Zeph's mouth makes the whole Manhunter vibe take on another dimension. This could be fun down the line.
Greg is so funny. He's what is missing on CSI:Miami. Greg is the one that gives the levity of the show while giving us the lowdown on the evidence collected.

Bah! I missed the last 2 mins of the show. Re-cap please
Last scene I saw was Noonan saying Magicians usually save their best tricks for last, being walked out in cuffs, then cuts off!

Taped it, did ya?It must have run over: same here. Grissom had something witty to say, yes?
Anybody? Anybody?
Am I the only one who was creaped out when he put on that guy's thumbskin?

This happened to me too. I Tivoed it, and even though it said it was an hour in the description it missed a little of the intro and cut off the last two minutes or so. Did it run long this week or something?

OK Here’s how I see it. Dude says, “And they say they save their best trick for last.” That’s a clue.
The last scene that we saw, Grissom is chasing after, and slapping on some latex. Only one glove.
I think he was going to give magicdude a free rectal exam. “Please bend over the hood of this car…” Fade to black, roll credits, cue music.

Actually, Grissom’s going to check out the guy’s mouth, right?
Your guess?

Grissom checked his mouth for a second and then let him go. Dude got in the car, and in full view of the cops and mugging for the camera, he regurgitated a key to the tip of his tongue and then stuck it out.
Again, Grissom's boundless knowledge is lost when it serves the plot, since I guess he forgot what he said earlier in the episode about Houdini regurgitating keys to escape.

For those who missed it:
IMHO, CSI is still a great show, even though they are drifting off into strange territory (think X-Files). As long as they stick to the basic, barebones premises, I think it will be fine.
Also, as I was watching the end of CSI, I noticed the clock and thought "what the heck?" Turned on ER after the CSI credits started and missed the opening couple of minutes.
Sadly, I think this might be a trend in TV that we'll see more and more of. It's a clever trick, really. The execs at CBS must think "Hey, if they miss the first few minutes of ER, maybe they'll switch back to "Without a Trace." Who knows - it's annoying as heck.
Can you program Tivo by time (that is, tell it to record NBC from, say, 9:55 til 11:05) or only by show? With my VCR, that's the only way I've been able to combat this "overlapping shows on different networks" problem.
You may have to program Tivo to program both shows on the same network if this continues just so you don't miss the final few minutes of the earlier show as it creeps to 5 minutes after the hour.

Something I just thought of...
I don't think it's posted yet, but if you ever miss a show, you can check out a website called www.televisionwithoutpity.com. They should have a CSI recap posted later today.
They provide recaps and commentaries on many of the more popular TV shows.

Actually, NBC is the one that is starting ER a couple of minutes sooner, using the lead-in from the previous show to snare viewers who might wander off.
The only thing missing from the Petersen/Noonan reunion was the cheesy 80's Miami Vice music.

Griss checks the Zeph's mouth for those skin pockets (I presume) and then gives his ok. They haul the Zeph off to the pokey and the last scene was him reguritating a handcuff key onto his tongue.

One of the many reasons I can't stand NBC. They treat their audience like ****, and people keep coming back. They're the pioneers of the good show - crappy show - good show formula. They were also the first to really start screwing with timeslot boundaries without telling anyone. And then there's "Super-sized Friends."
