Samurai Jack...What're they thinking?
The first season was well written, dynamic movie-like shots (well directed), with some humor added to change the mood every now and then.
What the hell's been up with Jack lately though? Jack loses his clothes, Jack becomes a chicken, Jack gets new shoes??!?!? Come on, one weird episode is more than enough. They've tried to capture some of the feel of the older cartoons (Penelope Pitstop and Wacky Racers), but I think they need to get back to some of the good old stories (IMHO).
Anyone else's thoughts?

It's an ok show, but I really think it's over rated. Hey, you asked for other opinions! I just think it's overrated because it was supposed to be this great action cartoon and it turned out to be so prosaic and boring after a few episodes, and it was just the same thing most of the time, just different sub characters and settings. It's a yawner. I got the pilot episode on DVD, but I don't think I would buy a season set of it. It's mostly just action junk, which is good, but with the action there needs to be depth and some character development. Instead all we get are pretty drawings and slashing sword sequences.

I agree, it has gotten to the point where its style overwhlems its substance. I do like the style though, great animation direction, I catch it every now and then, but I dont go out of my way to see it.

The same thing could be said for Johnny Bravo. The first season had the best Elvis parody routines on TV. Then the following season with his nerdy pal and his Momma deep sixed it for me.

Oh man, don't start dissin' the Jack.... I think the last few episodes have been great. What's wrong with a change of pace? Every episode can't follow the boring pattern of (A. Jack wanders the woods (B. Jack meets endless horde of villains and (C. Jack defeats them all in endless battle. I thought the Jack in a dress and Jack as a chicken episodes were freakin' hilarious. Now, I hope every episode isn't as goofy, but as a change of pace, sure, what the heck. I think it'd get real dull real fast if every episode featured Jack vs. Aku. Give them credit, it's got to be one of the most experimental shows on TV. Still one of the few shows I have to watch every single week.

I agree with Calhoun. I remember when Cartoon Network was saturating the airwaves with ads for Samurai Jack. I watched the special discussing the "special" aspects of its animation along with the opening episode, but was not impressed.
A few days later, I read some critical raves for it in Entertainment Weekly and a short bit in Headline News and thought, "Looks like the Time Warner juggernaut just keeps rolling." It's just that the AOL TW has so many resources at its disposal that markets a sow's ear as silk and people fall for it.
Isn't it made by the same guy who does Dexter's Laboratory (which I admittedly think is hilarious!!) and Powerpuff Girls?
And Johnny Bravo still rules! ;-)

His name is Genndy Tartakovsky. Creator of Jack and Dexter... animation director and sometimes director on PPG.
As for the new season of Jack, I thought Jack and the 300 was possibly the coolest episode yet. Just completely awesome. The Demongo episode was great too, in my opinion.
No, probably not the best choice to start the season off with the Farting Dragon, but they're still putting out good stuff. The newest episode vs. the zombies in the graveyard should appease some of you who tire of 'wacky' episodes... that one was cool.

The episode with the Spartans was probably what you saw... the majority of the episode (the telling of the Hot Gates story, basically) was all in one aspect ratio. It only changed to fullscreen for the bookend segments.
Awesome episode.
Awesome episode.
