World News Now
Anyone else watch this? I think it's the best news on, it feels like it's totally suited to my lifestyle. It is the self-titled "news for insomniacs"...I am an overnight switcher at an ABC affiliate, so I watch it every night. And Liz Cho is the most beautiful news person I have seen. We have posters at work for Peter Jennings and Good Morning America, but nothing for World News Now.
I asked them for a poster or 8X10, we'll see if anything comes of it. but for anyone else who's up at that hour, I recommend you check it out...
I guess it's not really a plug unless you live in Eugene, but I don't think the ads that air in it are worth as much as, say, superbowl ads.

I've been watching this show since it started many many years ago. Great stuff. Very irreverent and off-the-wall. And they've always had pretty hot news personalities. I love when they do sarcastic editorials. A few weeks ago I saw one where one of the reporters did a special report on how kickass his job was and how he got so many great perks, like a fancy cubicle and a free stapler.

It's one of favorite shows, too -- or at least when I can get to watch it. I started watching it around the time it first aired.
I always like how the anchors switch their demeanors when doing serious news and then lighten up when they're doing offbeat stuff. The show hasn't been thet same since Thalia left (and she looks out of place on CBS without her glasses, to boot).
But most of the famale co-anchors have been babes for the most part.
I remember when they used to do a MS3K tie-in, in which Kevin Newman was referred to as "Canadian Bacon" by one of the characters.
A couple years ago, a message I posted on their WNN bulletin board was mentioned on the air (it had to do with a discussion of Blade Runner and the two different cuts).

Cool, a fellow switcher. Our EAS box was giving me problems but hopefully it'll get fixed before long.
I agree, the mood switches between serious serious stories and fluff stories are great. I like their current "50 blocks in 50 weeks" tihng, since they have a lot less money I'm sure.
What to name the Platypus? I suggested "Alpy".
It's too bad I can't view the old videos that thry have on their site, I feel stupid paying $5 a month for realvideo where if I bother to pay attention, I could get a Digibeta aircheck and convert it to VHS someday...

Do you all use DigiBeta, when I worked for Scripps we were totally DigiBeta, but now Im back at ABC and we've gone to SX, not as reliable as DigiBeta, but still pretty strong. We just set up or EAS boxes to do the AmberAlert stuff, so Im anxious to see how that works.

We only use Digibeta for a few things, mostly in house programming like sports specials.
Our news uses SX almost exclusively, though when we need really old file video, they use 3/4.
Most of our program back-ups are still on 1 inch. Very reliable machines.
Umm...back to WNN to keep my post sort of on topic, the only thing I don't like about it is the ads for a certain adjustable bed company that keeps saying "free" over and over and over and over. Sentences like "we'll throw in FREE heat and massage absolutely FREE." And they accentuate it to make me think "didn't they just say free?"
