The West Wing 10/16

All in all I thought this was a decent episode though not as good as the previous. I missed the entire first season so it was nice to have flashes of what relationships were like back then. No previews for next week so I guess every network is avoiding the World Series so we have to wait even longer for the debate episode

I thought it was nice to see the way they're setting Sam up to ruin for Congress in Orange County CA. He's certainly getting a lot of practice debating.

Wouldn't there be residency requirements about that? I mean, he's not originally from there, is he?

For some reason, I thought you needed to be a resident in a certain district for a period of time before you could run. And I'd think that 6 weeks (that's how long before the election, right?) wouldn't be enough...

Yeah. I think if they are setting it up, it is for the election 2 years down the road.

For some reason I really do enjoy these flashback episodes. And that bit with that guy and Donna getting Josh was pretty damn_funny.

I've posted this before, but I think Sorkin does his best work in flashback. I don't think of this particular episode on the level of something like 'Two Cathedrals' or 'Bartlet for America' (two incredible flashback episodes), but it was still very good, and the flashback method worked nicely.

Agreed those two have to be the best flashback episodes of the bunch but he seems to have a knack in tying in "old" stuff with the current storyline.

Exactly my thoughts, Sorkin has a great knack for writing flashbacks. He shows us the beginnings of the characters we love so much and how they came to be. When we see them in flashbacks, its obvious that its not the same character as in the present.

and he throws in those great touches like "Do you mind if we talk while we walk?" That had me .

"OK, well I'm just going to walk around some more and see if I can find another impromptu meeting."

Actually, wasn't it something like "I'm just going to walk around and see if I can get in on a pick-up meeting."

I guess. Maybe it was "I'm preparing to circumambulate the facility with potential ambition to invest time in a hitherto unplanned gathering." Does it really matter?

Only that "pick-up meeting" has more of a sports theme, and that's what made the joke for me. It was like he was looking for a game to play.
