This was a superb episode. Everything is gearing toward...

Spoiler:
Clark telling Lana he has super powers. It's in the comics and I've been anxiously awaiting him letting her know. Chloe will be the only one that doesn't know. Last night's episode moves Clark closer to telling Lana the truth, because if he doesn't Lana will not trust him as much as she once did.

And that kiss was hot! Lots of chemistry between the two actors. For a second there I thought Lana was dreaming it or something as I could not believe she would kiss Clark like that at the Talon. Wow...that was poignant.

Lionel Luthor might figure out what happened (he did have the 3 bullets that Clark shot into his hand). Have to love the way Clark used Lionel's blindness as a shield for not exposing his super powers while being in front of him. Of course, if any non-regular character finds out Clark's super powers, you can bank on that character dying by the end of the episode/arc.

What if Lionel is only faking his blindess -wink- ?

I've really enjoyed these first three espisodes of the new season. I especially like that the red kryptonite allowed them to get away from the "clark takes on super powered bad guy" plot that seemed to be every episode's story last season.

It was a great episode, and I'm glad it'll have lasting repurcussions for once. I had this great fear that, with 6 minutes remaining, Clark would patch everything up with Lana and would be back to status quo. My biggest complaint about last season was that there was no continuity, just fight a different badguy every week (though I was impressed that they killed off some recurring characters, like the principal). Already this season we have Lana still questioning about the tornado incident, Pete finding out the secret, and now Clark's irreversible actions, especially in front of Lionel Luthor.

I doubt Clark will tell Lana his secret this early on. For one, like someone else said, it would make Chloe (and Lex) the only one not to know, which make her seem kinda clueless. Also, it would ruin the relationship between Clark and Lana... Lana needs to like him for who he is, not because he's Superman. I predict that the day that Lana finds out is the day this show jumps the shark...

That "bad girl" guest star seemed kind of familiar... who was she?

I thought it was an awesome episode as well, cant wait until next week! not sure who that girl was but she was Hott!

This was a good episode, seeing Clark's repressed feelings explode out, but with a darker, amoral edge to it. I liked how Clark admitted that during his "bad boy" spell, he realized there were two sides to his personality, but at times wasn't too sure which was the real him. (More foreshadowing to his future when he has to juggle between playing Superman and just being Clark Kent.)

And there was also a line from the first Superman film ("The son becomes the father....") but with a twist that I thought was an interesting touch. It was interesting how Clark inadvertently gave Lex that extra push to get over living in his father's shadow, too.

At least this episode didn't conveniently wrap up Clark trying to apologize and explain his behavior to everyone in town. His good guy image needed a shake up and now casts a slight seed of doubt. Lana obviously didn't want to hear any of Clark's excuses this time, and left him without the girl yet again.

This season keeps getting better, and better.

I hear that next week:

(spoiler)
.
.
.
Clark is effected by a chunk of fuschia kryptonite, and he starts hitting on Pete (not that there's anything wrong with that)!

cooper2000 10-18-02 09:40 AM

I have to agree with the gay subtext. Why dont Clark and Lex get it over with?
I hear there are whole boards with slash writing between these two. Interesting.

Enjoyable episode but I really think people should stop saying that Clark and Lanas relationship (if you want to call it that) is destroyed. Its a show people.
You guys are acting like its your best friend.

Re: Clark and Lana's relationship. I think the writers have done a good job in making the fans of the show care about Clark's predicament and his feelings for Lana, and they've been careful to shows us that Lana is attracted to Clark, but she's got a good set of morals on her (never crossing the line when she was still in a relationship with Whitney), and based on this last episode, won't stand for being with a jerk, no matter how much she likes him. The writers write Lana as a girl who doesn't put up with crap like that, and she's also a very sympathetic and smart character.

Professor Frink 10-18-02 11:31 AM

So what happened to the out-of-town U.S. Marshal guy? Did Clark kill him or just knock him out? If he just knocked him out, then the guy has clearly seen Clark's powers. And if he's dead, then whoa.

BTW - awesome, awesome episode!

Patman 10-18-02 11:44 AM

The father of the the new girl shot and killed the US Marshall.

I'm pretty sure it was Sara Downing, formerly of Roswell.

For a population of a couple thousand, Smallville's crime and murder rate is phenominal.

It was at the end when the father had a shootout with the U.S. Marshall at the place they were staying at for the interim, and then both father and daughter were back on the run again after that.

Yeah, on the list of places not to live, along with Sunnydale and Angel Grove.
