how nice of FOX to recap the pilot that they decided wasn't "action packed" enough after realizing that you should start a [somewhat] linear show at the beginning.
[/sarcasm]
Other than that...it was pretty good.
I d/l the pilot but the quality wasn't [IMO] viewable. Guess i'll have to wait til December. If it lasts that long...

My local cable company finally got the Sci-fi channel in the middle of Farscape's 3rd season. I tried watching a few shows and found myself trying to keep up with everything that was happening and found myself always 2 steps behind because I never saw what came before.
That's kind of the feeling I get from watching this show. At the start they kept talking about a "guy" they ran into. Who did they mean? Then they talked about the... um, whatever they were, (the dark humans at the end of the galaxy or whatever) but we never see them. Were we supposed to have seen them previously or are the just being mysterious and setting us up for whenever they finally run into some actual ones?
I'm going to stick with it for a while, but right now, I think Fox messed up by rearranging the episode order.
EDIT: I just realized the guy they were talking about was most likely the guy that hired them for the train robbery in last weeks episode, but I didn't think they made it too clear in the episode as to who exactly they meant.

Ugh, I wished Fox just had the guts to show the 2 hour pilot, so we could get comfortable with everyone, and we can know what everyones deal is.
I still want to know whats wrong with that one girl (It looks like she was in a box? But of course, we havent seen that episode yet)
ugh. Fox quit messing with us.
Other than that, I liked this episode alot better than the first one. I am kinda getting a little familiar with everyones roles.
If it wasnt a Whedon show, I would have said I give it half a season. Because its a Whedon show, I give it a year, but it better start improving.

Didn't the second episode of Enterprise also involve finding an empty ship? Weird coincidence.
I though this one was just so-so, lacking the 'kick' of the last one, but we are finding out more about the characters and how powerless they are in a ship without weapons or a 'hyperdrive' or whatever. Those interogation scenes were the best part.
Looking forward to the next one. Still.

I thought this episode told us a lot about the characters: the different interrogations scenes gave us an idea of exactly the type of people they are. This almost makes up for the fact that we technically still haven't seen the pilot episode. Hopefully by the time FOX does show it, it will be moot (but hopefully still a good episode).

I dunno. None of the characters really do much for me yet.
I'm so over the River chick. Can we jettison out of an airlock, please?
Am I the only one that remembers Doug Savant from his Melrose Place days?
I hate the camerawork in Firefly, sure, maybe it's intentional, but I get a bit sick from all of the "steady"cam footage. It's like watching someone play a FPS game, and those make me nauseous as well.
I'm sticking with the show for a half season, but if it doesn't get any better, I'll just be recording John Doe, a far more fast-moving show that's growing on me.

No. I remember Doug Savant from MP. When I saw him I said..hey he was the gay guy from MP!
Anyways, Yeah, the Summer pyscho chick is lost on alot of people, I wish fox would have showed the damn pilot..so we know what her story is.
Damn fox!

I would've liked to have see the pilot as well, as that's what they've been advertising on TV up until the 1st episode aired. Funny how nothing they were promoting actually aired!
I thought this episode was better than the first though. The first one was kind of predictable, IMHO. Of course they'd give the medicine back. The Reevers look kinda cool, hopefully we'll see more of them, and I do like Ron Glass and Adam Baldwin. Both have always had some kind of odd likable charisma about them.

Well, IMO the shows taking the wrong road....you're supposed to get better after your premiere not worse. The first episode was predictable, but at least it some small way it was enjoyable.
This episode actually started out well with the Reavers stuff and just the right hint of atmosphere, but then it just fell....and kept on falling. Till the end, which just happened, out of nowhere.
The interrogation scenes were quite humorous. As for character development, they didn't tell us anything we didn't already know about the characters. As of yet, they're not that much more than there paper thin archetypes.
But, in watching this episode, I finally figured out what Firefly really is. This is a television show based on the crew of The Betty Ragtag group of space pirates who transport things no questions asked for a price, on the outskirts of the central government organization. It was the "basketball" scene that really sealed the thing in my mind. And of course then I looked at the set design and it became oh so clear.
Buffy fails as a movie and 5 years later we get a TV show loosely based on the movie.
Alien Ressurection fails (well I liked it) as a movie and 5 years later we get a TV show loosely based on characters in the movie!
And seriously, they have to ditch the Startship Troopers garb, its downright distracting.

From: Bartertown due to it having a better economy than where I really live.
my problem is the opening monolog. says that they had to go to a new system because they used up all of Earth's resources. Ok, no problems so far. Then it says something about the hundreds of new worlds.
Hundreds? in 1 system?
Hundreds? in 1 system?

I thought that's what it says during the opening, maybe I heard it wrong
just listened to it again as I have friday's on tape
not an exact quote but it says after Earth was used up a new solar system was found and hundreds of new earths were colonized. at the end it says "edge of the system"
everytime system is mentioned it is singular

I know what they say, but I think they mean galaxy, not single solar system. In a galaxy there could easily be 100's of earth like planets. In our own galaxy the Milky Way, there could be 100's of earth like planets. I think that intro was written by someone who'd never passed 3rd grade astronomy.

I think there could be 1000's if not hundreds of thousands of earth like worlds in the galaxy, but I expect a little accuracy in my sci-fi. I bet fox will ruin what could be a decent space show, like they ruined Space Above and Beyond by canceling it after only 1 season
the whole thing of not showing the episodes in order and waiting 3 months to show the pilot is ridiculous

They went back into the Serenity (Mal, the commander, some of his Starship troopers) to look for the lone survivor from the other ship. Mal convinced the commander to take him along because he knows his ship inside and out. Mal was still handcuffed (but from the front, not the back). The only survivor from the deserted ship became a reaver and ambushed them near the med ward, slicing up one of the troopers, spraying blood all over the commander's face. Mal got the (now) reaver dude in a headlock and broke his neck, saving the commander.
Next scene, the crew of the Serenity is given their release because Mal saved the commander's life, but he took all of the "loot" from the deserted ship (to save face). Then the deserted ship was bombed to smithereens.

It's system. Singular. "...we found a new solar system and hundreds of Earths were terraformed and colonized."
FUBAR.
