Just getting this thread started a little early... because I'm finding myself getting pretty excited for the new season to start. Can't wait to see how things progress... especially for my new favorite character, Will Tippin ("1 in 5, bitch! 1 in 5!")

And, in case people missed it in the other Alias thread earlier in the week, there are two Alias books being released in early October:

Alias Declassified: The Official Companion is a behind-the-scenes guide to the show. The first 100,000 copies are supposed to include a DVD with interviews and such. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...149360/dvdtalk

Alias: Recruited is a prequel novel that explains how Sydney got involved with SD-6. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...93981/dvdtalk/

Unfortunately or fortunately, whichever way you look at it, I know what's going to exactly happen tonight. I've already seen the screencaps. It's looking to set up for a great season. Can't wait to see the sparks fly between S/V and SpyMomski and SpyDaddy!!

But I definitely hate the new opening to the show.

Four long months is finally over!

The ABC Family channel is running a mini-marathon of some of last season's Alias episodes this afternoon. They air until the start of the season premiere on ABC.

Well, for me the season premiere was decent, but not great. Err... do not read if you don't want spoilers :P
Spoiler:

It starts off strong with Sydney's mom shooting Sydney in order to get info out of her. However, although shot in the shoulder and tied to a chair, Sydney has no problem escaping and making it back to her dad and Will.

And of course, our nice young CIA handler is not dead - he was a champion swimmer and he also carries a screwdriver with him at all times, which is the key to getting out of any situation.

Want more cliches? watch the episode and you'll find some more.
They chose to go with the action packed starter that patches all the lose threads from the end of s1, instead of a slower ep but with a bit more insight into the real story.

SweetP, do you read the Alias recaps at TWoP? I think they call those characters by those names there. Great site.

Not the badass tour-de-force that the series premiere was but still a pretty strong episode to continue the story. While I obviously wanted them to just get to the action, I liked the way they brought the new viewers up to speed on some of what is going on. And while somewhat cliched in many areas, they've really set up a great premise for this season ... and there's really no one more perfect for the role than Lena Olin. Damn good to have this show back on the air.

I still marvel at how much plot gets tossed into each episode of Alias.

Tonight's season premiere did not disappoint in that department:

So what to speculate on in the coming episodes:

1. Will has to leave his newspaper job after being portrayed as a heroin junkie who was high when he wrote that SD-6 story. My guess is that Will might be a latent CIA spy down the road, but for now, I think he'll be helping Francie out with her new restaurant.

2. What is Syd's mom up to now that she's walked into the CIA offices and given herself up. Can she be trusted? Jack doesn't think so. Syd is torn.

3. Is Weiss dead? He appear to be shot in the neck, but we don't know.

4. Will Syd and Vaughn hook up or keep it professional?

5. Does Sloan really trust Jack and Syd? It appears that Dixon is beating himself up for not trusting Syd.

Anyhow, Lena Olin is a good choice to play Syd's mom, and she's brushed up on her American accent too.

well, i thought that it was a really good beginning to the new season. some of the lines at the beginning on the plane were cracking me up, especially where jack told will, 'your gonna have a bigger problem.' something in the tone of his voice just fit. lena olin was very good so far and it will be interesting to see what happens with the ending of the episode.

i didn't realize how much i missed this show until it came back. bring on next week! oh yeah, bring on season 1 on dvd too.

Great show. I wish they hadn't spent so much type recapping last season's finale, but I understand why they did it. I guess after watching the finale, just before, on ABC family, I didn't need the refresher and would have liked them to have used all the time on new footage. It's a small complaint, but otherwise than that, I really enjoyed the episode, although what happened to Will was a bit harsh.

I laughed when I saw them using the Sydney/Counselor scenario to recap last season. Felicity fans will recognize that as something Abrams did time and again.

It was a very, very good season premiere. Welcome back, Sydney.

Spoiler:
My favorite moment is when Sydney meets Vaguhn in France, and apologizes to him before shooting him up with adreniline(sp?). It was just funny.

And as for Weiss...I guess it would make sense that he would die. I remember he signed on for another show, so I suppose he sacrficed "Alias" for the other project that he is working on. It wasn't as if he that big of a character anyways.

I bet it isn't the end for Emily. I think storyline isn't done yet...I'm expecting something later.

I just started watching this show in the summer watching the reruns, I still need to watch the like 75% of the first season, only saw the season premeire, a few mid episodes, and finale. Even though i don't know exactly whats going on and cra, i think the show is awsome. I actually have the whole first season on my computer but i haven't had the to watch everything, i plan to so i can catch up with everything thats going on.

I thought that tonights episode was good.

Spoiler:

Dixon told Sloan about hearing Syd use the call sign "freelancer". He also told Sloan about following her when she illegally gained access into the SD6 facility in Santa Barbara.

All is forgiven and overlooked because of Daddy's explanation about not trusting Sloan back then? Okay "maybe" I can buy that they would fall for this.

However Dixon just ignores the coincidence of Sydney's injured shoulder and the woman he stabbed in the same spot. The woman attacker who just happens to have Syd's facial and body features and identical fighting style? Come on.

Otherwise it was a pretty good episode.

I thought the episode was great. I don't have cable anymore so the season 1 recap just reminded me about what happened many months ago.

Spoiler:
I bought the whole screwdriver in the pocket thing since they were in the club to destroy the device: gotta have tools for that. Hopefully someone will figure out that Sloan killed Emily and that will come back to bite him in the a$$. Dixon may feel bad about the questioning Sid's loyalty but I don't think Sloan is going to let it go quite so easily.

Bring on next week's episode!

Great episode, I really loved it. Although, like some others, I could have lived with a little less recap... but I understand why they did it.

Can someone refresh my memory... is this the first time we know for certain that Dixon doesn't know the truth about SD-6? I know that Sydney always *assumed* that he didn't know... but his line tonight "I love my country..." etc. was the first time I can remember as a viewer thinking "Yep, he actually has no clue."

I was surprised that they didn't clarify the Weiss situation before the show ended. Is he dead? Critical condition? Syd didn't even mention him to the therapist... (It was sorta funny, when I saw him on the screen during that sequence, I turned to my wife and said "Hey, I'm glad they're giving him some action... I like that guy." Then -- wham!)

Anyway, good stuff all around. And this Lena Olin storyline is going to be great. I hope they use more of Patricia Wettig this season too... she's a fantastic actress -- and, apparently, a perfect plot device for recapping events!

Edit: I also preferred the opening "intro monolog" from last season (with Syd saying how she was recruited, etc.). Any clue why they changed this and have some random guy doing it now? They seemed to have shortened it and not added any new information -- I would have preferred a shorter edit of last season's intro.

Dixon is totally clueless about SD-6.

Go look up the work "sap" in the dictionary, and you'll find a photo of Dixon next to it.

Uh...I thought Sydney's mom was dead. I only watched the first episode of last season and then tuned out because I was uninterested. I caught bits and pieces here and there but never became a regular viewer.

Static - yes I do read TWP! Those are generally the universal nicknames in the Alias online world.

Lena Olin is going to add so much texture to the show. She smolders. She's out to cause some real trouble. Eagerly awaiting her meeting with SpyDaddy.

I know what happens to Weiss - if you want to know I'll put a spoiler tag.

My fave lines: Will's reaction in the plane - 'Wait, your Mom shot you!' 'Seriously?' and Vaughn's groaning 'No, don't do that!' I get a real kick out of SpyDaddy's scenes with Willage. In reality, Will should be fish food for what he did with SD-6. He's Will Trippin now, ha ha ha!

There was definitely something in the water. Vaughn was way too giddy (yes, I know it was adreneline), but he proceeded to ask SpyBarbie out over a com link? He's got some balls now.

I think it was a bit packed, but it's meant to bring on new viewers, so there ya go.

When you get a second chance at life, you go for stuff you previously wouldn't have in the past. What's that line from "Starship Troopers"?

"Never turn down a good thing."

It's too bad the recap clips couldn't include the shot of Will seeing the "real" Sydney for the first time. That was one of the best reactions I've ever seen!

As for SD-6, I've always understood that very few know the truth -- Sloan, Sydney's dad, the torture guy, maybe a few others. Dixon, Marsahall, and most of the rest are convinced that they're working for the real CIA.

Was it just me or did the sound keep going in and buring the Counselor scenes?
