I'm pretty sure this episode was meant to quelch all the Italian-Americans who have come out in the past year or two and said that The Soprano's was an unfair stereotype in that it portrays all Italian-Americans as members of the mob. The speech that that woman gave at the church gave me that distinct impression. Just The Sopranos' writers way of saying "shut the hell up with all the politically correct BS, it's a television show for crying out loud"

Worst episode I've seen. It was boring and with little plot development.

Does anyone else think something is brewing between Furio and Carmela? When asked about the season, Federico Castelluccio replied that "Furio is going to have an interesting role this season." Seeing how the focus of this season is Carmela and Tony's marriage, it highly possible.

I think the title of "Christopher" might have been meant as a joke on Imperioli's part. He gets and opportunity to write an episode, and names it after his own character. Naturally actors getting the script will roll their eyes "knowing" he wrote himself into the spotlight. Then they read it and find out it's not that way at all. Clever Michael!

But he gets an oppotunity to write an episode every season.....

The episode was odd because it seemed to begin as a satire of the whole protest/anti-protest thing, which I enjoyed. It started out feeling like the Pine Barrens episode (obviously the greatest Sopranos episode ever) -- an all-inclusive, stand alone piece. But then it turned into validating the whole protest thing to Tony discounting it again. Obviously Michael Imperioli had some things he wanted said. I feel ambivalent about it overall.

I said the exact same thing to my girlfriend about two weeks ago when we were rewatching season 3 when I picked it up on dvd.

I told her it was the finest hour of television I have EVER seen.

The best written, directed, and acted episode out of the entire first three seasons, IMO.

But this last episode pales in comparison. I found it, to say the least, "boring" and really had nothing to do with the flow of the continuous story of the last episodes.

The Sopranos shouldn't have to go almost an entire episode and give a big "F**K you." to the groups who have been protesting them. They are bigger than that. Atleast I thought so.

Yup, she didn't have much to say at the health club. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds throughout the season.

It seems that Ralph is on his way out, although I never liked Ralph I think Joe Pantiliano is a fine actor. I think if he is "whacked" their'll be a definite void in the show.

That said, i'll agree that this was a rather tepid episode....and the fact that I study Native American history as a profession didn't help much. I agree with the general sentiment that they should leave that kind of crap out and stick to what they've done best in the previous 42 episodes.

Ep 4 is not in re-runs yet. it comes out this suday. He was referring to a spoiler for that show.

I watched Ep III again and did you notice that while Ralph is on the phone with Ro, Janice, umm, has a little dinner. She comes up and cleans her tongue off. :yack:

Ok....I thought i was really losing it there for a minute...so how is it that people are seeing it a week ahead of time again? people referring to Episode Four had me all kinds of confused thinking I had hit a wormhole or something.....I could have sworn there's only been three so far :D

Wow, I can't believe so many people didn't like this episode. I thought it was great.

Janice & Ralphie's scene in bed was priceless. The last few weeks, everyone has been wondering "What does Ralphie see in Janice?" Now we know. He is an abrasive, tough guy but sexually wants to submissive to a woman. I think that scene said loads about Ralphie and made him a much more complex character. We are also seeing more of Janice emerge. I ge tthe impression she is more like Mama Soprano than she thinks. In fact, could she possibly be using her attraction to mob men as a way to become like Mom?

I can't believe no one else has commente don this, but did anyone else catch that Melfi and her husbadn have split up? I thought that was very subtle how they slipped that in there. I wonder if they could not deal with the aftermath of her rape.

I also loved the scene of the luncheon, where the speaker talks about how Italian mob women are shameful stereotypes while everyone looks uncomfortable at Carmela. Yes, this was a jab at the criticisms of the show, but it also reveals another truth: that many stereotypes can have some basis in fact. And Carmela's reaction only further illustrated her increasing discomfort with Tony's lifestyle. She is conflicted: she is addicted to the power & wealth that Tony's career provides but she also tries to distance herself from what he is and she doe snot like to be reminded. It brings her down from the level of comfort she has lived under, while she increasingly worries about her future stability.

That was my favorite part. I loved that his facial expression barely changed during that awkward pause, his eyes and the way he tilted his head told the whole story.

Concur. The look was priceless!! As soon as the line was delivered, I knew we were in for a good one. Like the look was meant to say: "Is he saying JC REALLY isn't Italian??? Or is he saying AS IF you found out JC isn't Italian??" Almost an ambiguity to the look.

Kinda like finding out there is no Santa Clause, but with an adult "I knew that" wimper......

They were split up long before the rape episode.

They were even split up before the very first episode.

They were split up early in the series, but I'm pretty sure they were at least living together for most of season 3.
