I think if you go back and watch that episode again you can see that it's intentionally left vague as to what exactly happened.
When seen from Lex's point of view, he sees it in a way that makes it easier for him to live with, or right.

It's not in his nature to be decent, although he wants to be, so he justifies everything he does. He just gets worse and worse in every episode.

This is all last season, so I think we can discuss that episode without spoilers.
I've got that episode on my HD and I just watched each section.

Lex does set everything up. The guy attacks Lex and stabs him. In the first version, the Black guy shoots him.

In the second version, Lex gets stabbed. Lex and the black guy fight over the gun. Then the guy gets shot.

Before the final version, it's revealed that the girl commited suicide after the Club Zero incident. In the final version, Lex gets stabbed then she shoots him.

In any case, you're right. Lex is getting worse and worse.

DAMN

that was a good episode. Lots of plot twists, and a lot of great set up for the season.

I was wondering if Lex's reaction
Spoiler:
to shooting the guy
, was a bit of "How easy it is", along with knowing Nixon knew something
Spoiler:
and would never find out what it was
. But I've been known to read too much into things.

Is it me or did they kinda hint on Heat Vision being discovered next ep?

And yeah, great opener.

I'm pretty sure that the creators said that Clark wouldn't fly...except for maybe the very last episode of the series (or was that wearing tights and donning a cape?).

As far as the last love triangle on TV that was good....Dawson, Joey, and Pacey.

I love Lex's character and how he continues to grow more evil.

I thought it was weird how the show ended....it was like Lana was pissed off at Clark because she suspected he was hiding the truth from her. I would've expected her to be more thankful and give him a kiss on the cheek or something.

The preview for the next episode looks....umm...hot.

I don't watch the teasers, so I didn't see who you mean.
You wouldn't happen to be talking about Krista Allen, would you?

I thought the Kents told everybody that Clark was their own biological son... I know that's the way it is in the comics.

If so, did Mrs. Kent screw up by telling Lana the "we asked you for a child as our wish, and soon, we had Clark" story? If Lana was old enough to ask Mrs. Kent what her wish was, that would put her at least as a couple years old while the Kent's were childless. So even if Clark was "born" that day, she would still be years older than Clark, so why are they in the same grade?

Here's the WB's preview for next week's episode:
Spoiler:
Clark (Tom Welling) goes into hiding after he discovers a startling new power that quickly gets out of control and accidentally harms Lana (Kristin Kreuk). However, after a hot new teacher (guest star Krista Allen) uses kryptonite-enhanced pheromones to convince Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) to marry her, then spellbinds Jonathan (John Schneider), Clark must get a grip on his new power in time to keep Jonathan from killing Lex.

Kryptonite enhanced pheromones? Here we go again...

Great point. I totally missed that.

I can't remember if the Kents have told people that Clark is their biological son or not...or if they tell people that they found him after the meteor shower. I would guess that they told people that he was their biological son.

He's adopted on the show. In one episode he even said it to the coach. In another Chloe uncovers some inconsistencies in Clark's adoption records and finally she drops the matter at his urging.

Thaaaaaaat's right. Okay. That makes some more sense then. That's a break from the comics, so it had me a bit confused.

They found him in the field at about 3-4 years old, not an infant. That would put him about the same age as Lana. Lex, on the other hand, was 7-10 at the time.

Also, in *some* of the comics, especially the older ones, or the Superboy/Smallville stories, he was adopted.

Finally Smallville is back, and not only did it tie up the cliffhangers from last season's finale, but it stirred up even more stuff.

While it appears that Clark and Chloe will be "just friends", Chloe will be hurting for quite a while. Lana and Clark will not happen overnight, as Lana goes into "suspicions" mode for the early part of this season as Clark tries to deflect her probing into her "rescue" from the twister. While the creators of the show don't want to actually show Clark flying (with their show motto: "No Flights, No Tights"), they did plant the notion that Clark is starting to will himself to fly when pressed to do so.

The moral quandary that faced Jonathan came to a head as he struggled with finding ways to keep Dixon from revealing Clark's secret to the world. Jonathan did succeed in extracting the videotape from Dixon.

Having Lex do in Dixon at the end of the season opener lays more of the foundation of Lex being in so many compromising situations from all of the behind-the-scenes manipulations. Plus it has heightened Clark's suspicions of Lex (though he's grateful for Lex saving his father from Dixon). While Dixon's death solves Clark's secret for now, Lex is begining to pile up a body count (even if it plays out as justifiable killing) and his evil side keeps showing up more and more in times of crisis.

Having Lex "in check" due to his father surviving the after-effects of the twisters, and having Lex have to look after his now blind father will slow down his road to evil for this season, but it will also allow Lex to stay in Smallville to re-open his operations as his father re-covers from most of his other injuries.

Did Kristin Kreuk grow a few inches in height over the summer, or is Annette O'Toole just short?

Next week has one of my favorite femme fatale actresses working today:
Spoiler:
Krista Allen

Woo hoo!

Krista Allen used to play Billie on Days of Our Lives, she is smoking hot

Anyway, I'm a huge Superman fan, but gave up on Smallville after a few eps last season, mostly because of the villain-per-week format mentioned above. But I decided to give it another chance last night, and man was that a good episode. I was glad to see that boyfriend of Lana's is gone, and loved that shot of Clark standing in front of the trailer after he pushes it over.

I thought they did a good job with the show. Definitely ties up the cliffhangers from last season while developing new storylines with Lana knowing about clark, continuation of Lex's turn, etc. I read somewhere that the reason for the villain of teh week last year was so that people catching the show in the middle of the season would not feel too out of the loop. Something that stopped people from watching 24 last year.

One thing that bugs me...
Spoiler:

Why isn't anyone on the show concerned about Lana's bf? It was my understanding that she had just dropped him off at the bus station when the tornado got her. So isn't it conceivable that the bus could've gotten into some weather problems, too? Apparently the thought never occurred to Lana.

Looks like the ratings were good!
http://tv.zap2it.com/news/dailyniels...ngs.html?28194

NBC welcomed back "Frasier," the night's highest-rated program at 13.9/21, followed by the premiere of "Hidden Hills," 10.5/16, to take the lead at 9 p.m. The return of "The Guardian" put CBS in second, 9.5/15, followed by the season premiere of "Smallville," drawing an impressive 6.3/9 in third.

Very impressive. They might be able to keep this up if the charters are able to continue to develop like they did in the season opener.

1. One of Clark's friends should find out about his powers. Maybe without Clark even knowing.

2. Clark and Chloe should be a couple.

3. Lex should continue with his good and evil side. We should see he wants to do good, but he has to do evil to get the good done. This would help the viewers to feel sorry/compassion for him.
-If was cool to see him shake Mr. Kents hand at the end of the show. Maybe the Kents will have him over for dinner.

4. The Goverment should find the spacecraft and start looking around for the Alien "Creature".
-Was the spaceship trying to find Clark in the Tornado? Any thoughts?

I think I read somewhere (here?) that Pete will find out about his powers this season.

And a question, how do you do spoiler tags? Any help would be appreciated.
