Hogwarts (the name of the school) was the first Harry Potter reference on Buffy (Ep. 502 "The Real Me").
I thought the episode was solid, but not too great. It did seem like a return to Seasons 1-3 and I think that could be both good and bad. (It is very hard to go back) The ending was very interesting, so I'm hoping it is the start of a nice story arc. I also really liked Dawn's Slayer Training.

Did anybody else notice how fast Buffy's hair grew?
Did she get extensions? It was only earlier in the year when it was so short and now it's super long again. I don't know anyone whose hair grows that fast.

I am not opposed to a spin off if done with some tact. SMG is good and all, but I like the whole concept - I am not fixated on her. I think Faith, Anya, maybe even Dawn (if they continue to keep her from whining , may all be good for the part. Flame away!!!!

I was disappointed that we didn't get to see Willow interacting with this ancient witch coven. The scenes of Giles and Willow in England just seemed so - I dunno - "reduced." Like they had grander aspirations for Willow's atonement, but didn't have the budget to show Willow's attempts to reign in her power. Here's hoping that we get to see some of this coven in the next couple of weeks.
The writing - to me- seemed awfully patchy. The plot didn't hold together well and we seemed to hopscotch from one set piece to another with only the flimsiest seques. Buffy's lingering in the new high school wasn't really believable. Dawn's "Scrappy-Doo" team was underwritten - especially the semi-goth chick. (Besides she looks to be SMG's age and not Dawn's.) If Anya doesn't somehow cross paths with Xander again soon, then Anya really has zero reason to be on the show (featured spot in the opening credits or no).

Are speculation spoilers okay in these threads?
Ex. 1: "I sure wish Pikachu would show up this season as the big bad" would probably be okay.
Ex. 2: "Joss Whedon said on an interview in AOL that Pikachu would be showing up this season. I bet he'll play the big bad." That would border on a spoiler.

I hope you are right, Patman, because that sounds like a great way for the series to go this season. Also, it would explain
. Although what part would Spike play? Patsy again, as in season 4?

Just want to say thanks to everyone for using spoiler tags.
This year, instead of having my friends tell me all the spoilers they know, I've decided to approach each episode without reading even the synopsis in TV Guide and without watching the "on next week's episode" clip.
I want to know nothing this year, but I still want to come to this forum. Thanks for allowing me to know absolutely nothing.

There is a very interesting tidbit on Halfrek...She played Cecily, William's (aka Spikes)love interest in the Fool For Love ep and in Older And Far Away Halfrek clearly mentions 'knowing' William (take that to mean in a biblical sense).
I think she's a great actress and should get more of a role on the show. As the flight attendant in Meet The Parents is telling of her dry humor and notable sarcasm, she fits in amazingly well. My new favorite character from last year:)
Tara: I thought vengeance demons only punished men who wronged women?
Halfrek: That's just Anya's trip. I prefer to be more well-rounded. And actually, we prefer 'justice demons'.
Anya: Is this an intervention? Shouldn't all my demon friends be here?
Demon Grilfriend: Honey, they are.

Actually Sessily was the reason why William decided to become a vampire, because she thought he was beneath her station in life.
I'm surprised not much has happened between Spike and Halfrek ( who I have to believe was/is still Sessily) up to this point because they must be aware of each's presence in Sunnydale.

Patman,
It's strange however. Before she dumped him they hadn't been together, yet somehow they managed to find each other as demons later on...speaking of which, how did Halfrek turn? This could be an interesting plot line.
