Fox will probably cancel this way before the season is over. I thought the show was great. It should be on a diff. network to get the chance it deserves.

I liked the show also, it reminded me a lot of Pretender. but yes Fox will probably cancel it. They tend to cancel all the good shows so they can run more syndicated reruns.

Loved it! I hope it survives. And on that note, why don't we all send FOX some e-mail telling them so? The only time anybody ever speaks up is when they're against something or when it's too late.

I too enjoyed it, and it definitely reminded me of The Pretender. Glad to see a show like this getting a chance again, but Fox does not have a great reputation for sticking it out with new shows. So I'm trying not to get too attached, just in case.

And it never hurts to let them know you watched it, liked it, and will watch it again.

Do they have a contact address? I know I tried to find one once for Abc and they only had a snail mail address.

This is probably why my girlfriend wants me to find a copy of it on Usenet. She loved the Pretender. See...we were watching JD up until he hooks up with the black officer when ALL the power within a 10 block radius went out. I think a car hit a pole or something. If anyone sees it online, i'd appreciate a heads up. Unless FOX decides to repeat it.

Enjoy it while you can. At least with Nowhere Man, we got 25 episodes.

from me for this show as well. I hope it sticks around, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It does remind me of the Pretender as well, but I think I might like this show more, if it lasts.

I liked the ending... a bit surprised that they would be revealing tidbits about his past so soon... or maybe this is just a red herring?

I really enjoy John Doe and I have a season pass on my D-TiVo. I hope it survives.

Thought it was excellent, and IMO will definately be the standout of the new fox drama's this fall. If any last more than the usual 4-6 episodes, I think it will be this one.

I knew I should have seen this, but I missed it. Does anyone know where I can get a recap?

I wish, this being the pilot, they had set up the premise a little better instead of rushing headlong into the whole kidnapping case. I wasn't sure if a week had passed in the episode or a year. And they conveniently set him up with wealth and connections awfully quickly. It seems like we have a rich, brainwashed MacGuyver with a photographic memory.

Hopefully there will be a slow exploration of his powers now that whoever is watching will start watching. But who knows what Fox will do...

I loved this show, just like I loved The Pretender. Hope it lasts a long time... except the fact that FireFly is not a good lead-in for JD. I found FF to be the most boring thing I've seen in awhile.

Besides, JC has Macintosh computers all over his pad (new iMac, a Cinema display, the logoless PowerBook...), what's there not to like about that!

I'm with Goldberg, after watching FF, in which I found just 1 possible glimmer of hope I was about to turn of the TV and not give John Doe a chance, but man o man, that was a great first episode.

Seriously, all I look for in first episodes is a compelling set-up and character(s), not perfectly polished, but on the right track and if John Doe can keep up with this everything will be all right Friday nights at 8PM....until Fox cancels it 8 episodes in. Plus, its always nice to see Sports Night alums again.

I'm saying FF - 2+ seasons.

I watched it this afternoon off my Dishplayer.. and oh my!.. what a great show!!

Since we don't have the X-Files anymore, I hope this series will suffice as a replacement. X-Files started on Fridays, right? So hopefully this one will continue to carry on interesting stories and build up like that.

Where do you think John came from? I'll throw a wild one out and say alternate dimension. We'll see.. (hopefully)...

At 8 p.m., CBS was in the lead with "48 Hours" (5.4/10) followed by ABC's two-hour special "America's Funniest Home Videos: The Battle of the Best" which averaged a 4.8/9 from 8 to 10 p.m. A repeat of NBC's "Providence" tied with FOX's series premiere of Joss Whedon's space western "Firefly," 4.1/8.

FOX shot to the top at 9 p.m. with the series premiere of "John Doe," 6.0/11, while CBS came in second with "60 Minutes," 5.3/10. ABC was third and NBC brought up the rear with "Dateline NBC," 4.7/9.

Of course it went up against repeats, but at least it wasn't last in it's time slot.

I too liked the show, but I thought the 1st half was a little weak, while they set up the premise and then conveniently gave him a lot of money. But once he started looking for the little girl, then the show and it's intensity took off. Looking forward to future episodes.

I liked it, but doubt it will last long since Fox has quickly canceled every show that I liked from the beginning (Profit and Strange Luck to name 2).

I didn't think it was just "convenient" that they gave him lots of money. I mean, if I found out I knew almost everything and thought I knew which horse would win a race and how to make good investments and stuff like that, I'd certainly take advantage of that and try to make some money.

(Another similarity with Profit (aside from being good and probably doomed) both had naked guys curled up in a fetal position in the pilots)

I was glad they handled the money situation the way they did as that's the first thing that I would do had I infinite knowledge. That was a very realistic and human approach. The only thing I found myself questioning later was the fact that he was looking in the telephone book. Shouldn't he already have that knowledge?

Me may have, but have you ever tried to keep a mental list crossing off some items while going through all of them. Not to mention it was an easy way to show the audience what he was doing

Personally I like it enough to keep watching it... for now.

As Alfred Hitchcock coined the term, the phone book could only be a MacGuffin, ie: a cheat for the audience.

I've been thinking on and off about what kind of stuff he can and can't know. It seems to be the basic rule is, if it's something that can be learned from a book (misc. facts, medical knowledge, etc.), or if it's a task that requires various motor skills (driving, racing), or anything that can by synthesised from that knowledge (the horse racing, investing), then he can do it. Anything else, like facts known to only a few people (like perhaps classified military data?), and anything that would require psychic powers (to the point of knowing someone elses name) he doesnt know. Nor does he "know" anything that is subjective, such as what type of sausage he likes, until he's experienced it.

My guess would be that all his knowledge is 'time stamped' about the time he found himself on that island. He will have to hit the books for any new information / discoveries etc. And considering there's a new phonebook every year (and a lot of time passed in the pilot episode), he used the book to get the most current information.
