Based on it being Tuesday Sept. 14th when they paramedic was checking him after the boat brought him to shore. Then it was most likely 1999. And, since most TV shows take place during the same time they are aired, I'm guessing 3 years passed.

Like I said, the money thing didn't bother me. The 2 things I thought were odd were:

A meter maid spotted a purple Impala. They rush over to where it was reported and the guy is only like 20ft. away from it as if he just parked it there.

And, why would there be a bag of sugar out on a dock?

Oh yeah, the femal police captain (or whatever she is.) I recognize her, but don't know from where and I didn't catch her name in the credits. Anyone know what other show(s) she's been on?

I swear they said that was soap, not sugar.

Due to John Doe's popularity and FireFly's dismalness, they will cross-over each other and we'll see that John was a crew member of Mal's ship that they didn't like so they branded him, uploaded a 1999 almanac into his head and kicked him through a wormhole that just happens to drop you on a small island just west of Seattle... yeah that sounds good!

I watched it 3 times and was pretty sure I heard sugar. Which makes a lot more since than soap since the guy said, "What are you doing, you going to save me or bake a cake?"

Anyone know if Fox plans to reair the first episode before next Friday? I missed it.

BenCJedi 09-22-02 09:26 PM

You're right! My bad! I got confused cause I thought the guy down said
"If I get soap poisoning, you and I are going to have a nice long sit down on who or what you really are"

John Doe got both my wife and I hooked.
Firefly I was only able to watch the first 15 minutes and couldn't take any more.

it was sugar that JD pull over the cop's leg. i think the sugar on the dock there to make coffee for the boater that ran out of sugar on their boat.

Jayne Brook, probably best known as one of the doctors on Chicago Hope. I'm glad to see her back on TV, as she is sooooooo cute.

Also -- did anybody else think of The Matrix when John sat down in the helicopter?
"Do you know how to fly that thing?"
"Not yet."

Aha that's what I recognized her from. I like the concept of the show. Wasn't too intrigued by the kidnapping story, but it was just the 1st episode. The cliffhanger at the end got me convinced to watch the next episode, even though the previews of next week mentioned nothing about that plotline.

I so wanted to dislike this show because I don't really have time for another show. I actually liked the parts that I saw(I was watching but not watching it) Guess I'm going to have to add a SP for it and if Firefly is as bad as I've heard then I can just get rid of that one.

I liked the show. I had it taped as well and watched it last night.
Liked it more than Firefly too which I was shocked about but...

adamblast 09-24-02 06:19 PM

Damn I wish they repeated this pilot... All the talk has made me sorry I missed it... and ready to check it out next week...

Rogue588 09-24-02 11:15 PM

Finally got around to watching this thanks to SD-6. It was all right. Too early to say yay or nay.

But the BEST thing about it, is I finally shut my girlfriend up after asking me every friggin' day if I got it yet. ;)

As long as it's not Friends...I don't mind. :D

Just watched it last night and really liked it - also taped it on a fluke when I taped Firefly thinking "Okay the previews looked alright so what can it hurt to tape an extra hour?"

I'm totally hooked and agree that it is odd they tipped their hand so early with the woman calling out "Tom" on the boat at the end. Was she in color? I think it is more likely a red herring leading into next week's installment.

Also - did anyone find the rather extensive (for network TV) nudity odd? I mean it wasn't shocking, but you DID see quite a bit of John's heiny when he fell into the water.

Judging by the ratings this show got, I think it is safe for a little while longer consider FOX has SUCKED in Friday night rating for a while.

JCJF10 09-26-02 12:48 PM

I like this show very much.

Sadly I must agree that Fox will likely be quick on the trigger with this one.

I hope this doesn't turn into The Dead Zone with a different gimmick for access to the knowledge.

That would suck. :(
