Simpsons question re: Barney

I just saw the episode last night in which Homer formed a police force after he causes a blackout. Came in part way through.

Anyway, at some point in the episode, Barney is seen, and his hair is combed and he has quit drinking.

My question: When did this happen?

As I recall, he was also like this in other episodes this season. So it's not a one-off thing.

When did he quit drinking? Was it the A plot of an episode or a subplot?

Please, do not reference the astronaut episode. My office cronies and I have already exhausted that one

There was an episode either last season or the one before where Barney joined AA and stopped drinking. Since then he still frequents the bar, but he's cleaned up and always has coffee instead of beer. He has had one drink since then, but with no adverse effects.

Thanks.

The problem is, no one here seems to remember the exact episode, or even describe the plot line in which he quit.

Does anyone know?

Doesn't Barney quit every now and then? In a random episode you'll see him quit, or looking well-dressed, and by the end of the episode he'll have a relapse.. I dunno

All you need to know.

Barney has not had a relapse since this episode, although as I said earlier he has had one drink.

Thanks Groucho.

For some reason, I don't remember that episode..... I have vague recollections, but I don't really recall it.

Very funny moment. Homer offers him a beer and Barney says the typical "about to fall off the wagon" line spoken by so many others before - "Well, one drink won't hurt."

And it doesn't!

Lets not foget the episode with the phone book picture and Barney flying a helicopter.

Yeah, that's the one where he actually quits.

Barney (dressed as Marge): "I'm off to market!"
Homer: "Marge, your making a fool of yourself.... oh, it's just Barney.

Yes, they buy Barney flight lessons as a gag-- Barney sees them laughing at him, sees video of himself drunk, and decides to quit drinking.

The episode that it happened is when Moe's turned into a Yuppie club for 1 episode. Barney asked for a beer and Moe gave him coffee. Barney loved it and hasn't gone back. Miss the drunk Barney

Nope... it was the helicopter episode.

Although at the end of that one... Barney is shown drinking like 4 cups of coffee... and then we see Moe running a coffee cart... and says "Nobody gets away from Moe Scyzlak" (or something like that), before laughing and setting off a smoke bomb

You are correct!

that is the episode, And I'm surprised they stuck with the gimmick for some time now.

I thought one of the big things they tried not to do in episodes was make large character changes...

Suppose you have to after a decade plus of episodes.

aside from homer, barney is the best character they got.

what do you think is the best episode with barney in it?

i loved the one where homer has an 'i dream of barney' vision with barney dressed up in a two piecer, complete with veil - drunkingly humming the theme song to Jeanie (genie?) and trying his best to do some sort of temptation dance.

i can't remember, but isnt that from the episode where homer has a new female co-worker he has the hots for? and he is trying to stay faithful by continously repeating 'think unsexy thoughts' while in an elevator alone with her? i remember something about a very very buff flanders in a speedo also?

When Barney was the designated driver, and the Duff Party Van showed up with a bottomless mug of new Duff Extra-Cold for him. That's the same episode they go to NYC.

I think it's stupid that Barney is now clean and sober. The whole point of the character was that he was a drunken loser.

Let us consult the Book of Ralph:

Ralph 1:15 "I ate-ed the purple berries. It tastes like burning!"
Ralph 4:7 "I bent my wookie!"
