UP CLOSE: Koppel interviews The Boss
Continues tomorrow night.
Springsteen, like Robert DeNiro, is obviously not comfortable with being interviewed. He's shy and not terribly articulate, and he resorts to colloquialisms too often. Koppel is a tough interviewer because he sometimes interrupts abruptly to move on to something else, and he listens to the responses with a poker face. He's not someone to easily banter with.
Even so, it's good to hear from Bruce. He should probably retire though; he's recycling the same old imagery of muscle cars with 455s under the hood, senoritas, the Jersey shore, blue-collar life, despondency, etc. It's good stuff, but we've heard it all from him before.
