Emmy Nominations - who's it gonna be?

It's that time of year again, the nominations are announced tomorrow. If Buffy doesn't get at least NOMINATED yet again this year, I am going to boycott the Emmys. And they'd damn well better win for the best hour (or whatever it's called) for "Once More With Feeling".

Scrubs and 24 are 2 newcomers that also deserve nominations.

I don't know the categories at the Emmys actually. I don't usually pay too much attention except to the big categories. Are there categories for best NEW show?

Anyhow, post the categories and your picks for nominations and winners. I'm curious to see what people out there think. Although I think this message board agrees about most of the shows.

Buffy doesn't get at least NOMINATED

The academy left off the writing nomination for the series
on the Ballot. They had to send out another Ballot.
I saw the updated Ballot, it was for the Musical.
When it rains it pours in Sunnydale.

It's a tough call as to which show should win the best drama emmy.

My two picks are The Shield (for just about any episode) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the musical episode.

I'm leaning towards the Buffy musical (since they vote for just one specific episode) just because it was so damn brilliant - but if I was voting for a whole season my vote would go to The Shield (it was an off year for Buffy, relatively speaking).

Buffy got snubbed again and only got 4 nods for makeup and hairstyling. UPN got 9 nominations.

Poor, poor WB. They can't get nominated for crap. They got two nods for "Smallville". That's it for the network.

Not sure what to make of this list. Xena? I really don't understand how they decide when syndicated shows qualify. It aired well over a year ago.

Too many NBC comedies. I'm sorry, but Frasier and Friends are not the funniest shows on television anymore.

Shocked to see South Park in there. Sure, it deserves it, but I didn't expect them to know that.

I have no problems with Keifer as Best Actor ... he was incredible. 24 as Best Drama, though, is laughable.

Good to see great new shows like Alias and The Shield get some recognition.

Embarrassing that OMWF isn't on any of the episodic lists. At least they threw it a bone with the Musical category.

Also good to see HBO holding it's grip on the throats of the networks. Without all those cop-out comedic nominations for the same old NBC comedies, HBO would have crushed the networks.

I'll have to look at the list in a bit more detail later to see what I really think.

You have to feel bad for Rob Lowe, the only West Wing cast member not to get nominated. Even Stockard Channing and Mary-Louise Parker, who were each in only a handful of episodes, got nominated. If I remember correctly, Lowe has never been nominated while Spencer, Whitford, and Schiff have received multiple nominations. I like Dule Hill, but really does he do an appreciably better job than Lowe? It's kind of like how Kristin Davis never gets nominated for SATC, although I don't watch that series so I can't comment on her acting abilities. Martin Sheen and Allison Janney are both great, but in an ensemble like the West Wing I don't think anyone should be singled out as a lead actor or actress.

I can go along with Matt LeBlanc and Jennifer Aniston, even though again they should be nominated in supporting roles, but what is Matthew Perry doing in there? Chandler did virtually nothing this season.

Law & Order is my favorite drama of all time, but it should not have been nominated this year. It was not very good. NYPD Blue should have gotten their nom. The funny thing about L&O is that the actors almost never get nominated. Can't understand that since Orbach and Waterston are 2 of the best actors on television.

Charlotte Ross definitely should have been nominated for her work on Blue this year.

I've seen Six Feet Under on a few occasions. It ain't all that. However, it is the type of show that these awards folks seem to love.

Did everybody from The West Wing get nominated? Sheesh. Some of them are deserving. Some are definitely not.

The best drama/comedy award is for the whole season, the writing, directing, etc is for individual episodes.

Personally, I'm pissed about the WB only getting 2 noms. How in the hell does Malcolm in the Middle get nominated for best stunt coordination and not Angel or Smallville? It doesn't compare to last year when WB had 0 nominations even though they had the 2 best shows on TV (Buffy and Gilmore Girls) and the best hour of TV I've ever seen ("The Body"), but that has to be the worst thing I've ever seen in any awards.

I'm impressed with how many nominations Six Feet Under received (23). I hope they sweep.

Agree with most of those thoughts. Except Six Feet Under is all that. Give it another chance.

Blue was one of the best two or three dramas this season for certain. I wish the nomination committee would actually watch the shows instead of going by their reputations. Law & Order is one of the all time greats and always will be, but not this season.

Can some one please explain to me the difference between a Single camera show and a Multi camera show? And is there enough of a difference that they have to sepperate the catagories for it?

I've never understood that either. I do believe that each season, there are arguably 5 better dramas on the air, but not the ones they are picking. Oz is probably unjustifyably looked down upon in much the same way a show like Buffy is. People probably just assume it sucks because of the subject matter. I don't think Oz is as good as The Sopranos or Six Feet Under, but it's certainly one of the top shows on the air and deserves more recognition from these award-giving bodies.

I for one think SIX FEET UNDER is the best show on television.

I, for one, am so glad that Six Feet Under got that many nods.
And I am so glad the entire principle cast got nominated.
I hope Frances Conroy wins. I loved Rachel Griffiths, but in my mind, Frances (the mom) deserves it. She is so mesmerizing as the mother and had me close to tears in many of the episodes. But that fight btw Rachel and Peter Krause in one of season 2's final episodes had me mesmerized at her acting ability.

Am I the only one who thinks THE WEST WING is very OVERRATED.
How it beat out The Sopranos the past two years?
I have given that show a chance...and well..I just can't get into it. Now You West Wing lovers can't say I haven't tried the show out.

24 best drama? Hardly.

YES! BRYAN CRANSTON GETS NOMINATED!? But why is he in the supporting catergory and that Jane Kaz-"whata" is in the lead? To me they are both supporting but she has been nominated in the lead before.

BAND OF BROTHERS ALL THE WAY!

I am happy for THE SHEILD, but I don't want it to win. I want SIX FEET UNDER TO SWEEP AS WELL (at least in the main acting and drama series category). I can dream...hopefully those voters dream too!

See that's the way I feel about Six Feet Under. Just can't get into it. As for The West Wing, I think this was definitely their weakest year. It is still one of the best dramas on television and is deserving of a Best Drama nom, but everyone on the friggin show got nominated except for Rob Lowe (including someone not even in the opening credits). That is a tad ridiculous. As for the last 2 years, I think it was the best drama on tv.

Even though I do not like THE WEST WING, I have watched it before, and I can't see how Rob Lowe isn't nominated. He would be a lead though...wasn't he nominated before along with Sheen in the lead?
I don't think Allison Janney should have been nominated in the LEAD...didn't she win a year or two ago for the same role in the SUPPORTING Category? I can see how Martin Sheen got Lead, but Janney? I think NOT!

I always wondered, why in the hell does Kristin Davis never get nominated. I have my own answer.... I do think she is excellent on the show, but to me she is the worst written character from the four. She does nothing but contradict a lot of the time and is sometimes not funny, I don't think it is her acting, but the writing she is getting on her character.

I remeber reading that Matthew Perry complained that he did not want to be nominated in the LEAD category for FRIENDS?

Was it because no one else was up for LEAD in FRIENDS until this year?.........?

I agree that all of the FRIENDS SHOULD BE SUPPORTING.

FOR EXAMPLE, LISA KUDROW won for Supporting a few years back.

If it were up to me, the WW noms would have been Sheen for Best Actor, Janney and Maloney for BSA, and Schiff and Lowe for BSA. That's it. I really like Bradley Whitford, but I didn't like the way his character was written this year (which isn't really his fault, but it is a factor).

Yeah. Definitely the weakest season for The West Wing but still the best drama over the past 3 seasons. The last 2 years, I had it as #1 and The Sopranos as #2. This time with its struggles and The Sopranos on hiatus, Six Feet Under is in that spot for me. There really aren't many shows that even come close to touching those three in terms of consistent quality. I guess some people won't like one or the other for whatever reason, but from top to bottom, the writing, the casting, the acting, the directing ... everything is top notch every single week.

Rob Lowe is being shafted. His work on The West Wing is excellent and a complete departure from his "image." He's one of the actors that carries the show to the next level, and it's a shame they handed out nods to everyone but him. Certainly not everyone can be nominated, but he's higher on my list than many of the others.

Same here. Sopranos (1st season) was #1 3 years ago (which was obviously before WW started).

Of course, from 1995-98, I think Law & Order was the best drama on tv, bar none.

Mine too. I have a season of Buffy and a season of Babylon 5 mixed in there as well, but for most the decade, Law & Order was an unmatched dominant force.

Single camera shows are shot film style, with a director and DP and later edited. Multi camera shows literally have 3 or more cameras going at one time, they are usually shot on video and switched live with a director calling the shots. The cameras in a multi-camera shoot are also isoed so that changes can be made in post.

And yes, they should be in separate categories. A good multi-camera director would not necessarily make a good single camera director.

BTW: I think that Oz is by far the best show on HBO, probably even one of the best on TV. I'll never understand why it never gets nominations. Maybe they don't submit anything to be nominated. Oz, Buffy, and Smallville should definitely be in the outstanding drama category.
