Considering the subject matter, I'm shocked there isn't a thread about this yet. While not the most hilarious episode of all time, still very funny. And more importantly, absolutely right. I loved the commercial with Matt and Trey updating 'Cartman Gets An Anal Probe'

Ted Koppel - "So what positives do you take in killing 26 newborns?" (or something like that)

Tweak - "Uhhhh.. It's easy?"

Oh, I was so certain that baby was going to kill Hat at the end. Oh well..

Very funny episode. But I could have done without the "free hat" secondary plot.

I loved all of Spielberg's henchmen taking the kids hostage with their walkie-talkies... I was half-expecting the kids to go, "wait, dude, they only have walkie-talkies" and walk out. But then I was also half-expecting that the new Raiders would be the greatest movie ever made and everyone would love it, so obviously my South Park predicitions are the most useless thing since, well, something very useless.

Classic. Not the funniest ever, but certainly funny enough. As usual, the "ad" at the commercial break was hysterical.

Did you catch when one of the kids used the example, "What if the Beatles redid the White album every few years, adding instruments they wanted to do and taking out others that they didn't like. Then what would we have?" (or something to that effect)

And the walkie-talkies was great! They were holding them like there used to be large rifles, but now one hand was empty and one had a walkie-talkie. I had to explain this to my girlfriend and her family.

I never saw the rerelease of ET but read about the walkie-talkie thing. Was it obvious that they used to be holding guns? I don't remember if they had rifles or pistols. Were the guys in the edited ET holding the walkie talkies like rifles, with one hand empty and at an akward angle?

Oh yeah - I knew nothing about this happening when I saw the episode. But as soon as that comment was made, I knew there had to be something like that really going on. Genious.

Not the best episode (certainly doesn't come close to the Sea Men episode or my favorite, Osama), but it was better than last week's.

The re-re-re-re-re-re-release of Empire Strikes Back, in which the word "wookie" has been changed to "hairily challenged person" and all the characters have been replaced by Ewoks.

I think this was one of my favorite new episodes in awhile certainly tailor made for the DVD crowd, I laughed alot. The ending was great. They made so many great points about film tampering CGI dvd etc.that it seemed to be written by a collective DVDTALK subconciousness.

Very good episode. I loved the "commercial" for their re-release of a special edition DVD (soon to be replaced in the future with an all-new special edition DVD) of the pilot episode "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe" with digital enhancements.

Weird that they mentioned that. I missed South Park last night but planned on seeing it when repeated this weekend (if Lucas does not have it pulled with all his power )

I actually thought of that analogy a week or so ago & finally posted it. I wish I had posted it earlier. Maybe I could have taken some credit for it showing up there.

My God, that was funny! My jaw hit the floor at the "twist" ending with the 9/11 Relief Fund sign.


It was great to see Tweek step it up a notch -- he was sort of the hero (although he did like Indiana Jones and never fired the rocket).
Lucas: "The coked-out kid got away."

And that one part was definitely meant to be Cartman talking about the actual TV audience.
Cartman: "Look, Tweek. You've been our new friend for about two weeks now, and to be honest it's not going well. People don't seem to like you very much -- they find you kind of annoying. Now you better start being a team player or we'll replace you with another friend! That's not too much pressure, is it?"

I gotta be honest here. As much as I love Butters, and hope that he's always around, I am really getting into Tweek! "Ahhh! Jesus Christ, man! That's way too much pressure!!!"

You bet they do. Where else do you think they're getting their ideas?

I actually anticipated the ending of this episode ever since I saw thi kids tied to the stakes in the commercial. I thought it was great, and the commercial was great too. The new and improved aliens were great!

It was 23 newborns. 23 is a number that pops up quite a bit in the comics, Simpsons, and South Park (there were 23 cows in Stan's room when he turned into a *****, I mean vegetarian). Weird...

It was 23 toddlers. If it were newborns, I don't think the town would be rallying to save him.

I agree with the rest of you, thank God they didn't go with the "I guess it's OK"-type ending we all expected. The final answer is that this never-ending film changing sucks. And if you change your film your face will melt off and you will die.

I love how they always manage to throw in these "WTF?!?" moments, no matter what the subject matter is:

Cartman - "You leave us no choice -- it's time for Plan B. We're going to melt your icy heart with a cool island song."
Stan - "Wait, I thought we were going to cool his hot heart with a cool island song."
Cartman - "No, he has an icy heart."
Kyle - "But you can't melt ice with a cool song."
Stan - "So we have to warm his icy heart with a hot island song."
Cartman - "No, it's a cool island song."
Kyle - "But then we'll end up freezing his hot heart with a cool island song."
Cartman - "Oh, do we really want to do that?"

Do a search for my name and Ridley Scott, and you won't be disappointed.

First, it should never be about a person, it should always be about a film.

Second, Lucas more or less had the opportunity to make and present the film he wanted. He could have made Luke scream, or made Han Solo shoot second, the first time around. Scott, with Blade Runner, did not have these options available to him; the so-called "director's cut" was prepared under extreme time pressure, per an agreement with Warner Bros., who were going to rerelease the workprint as a new cut otherwise.

Third, many of Lucas' changes suck. Scott's changes are mostly good, and even if you prefer the original cut, the director's cut is still thought-provoking. Luke screaming is not. Now, for what it's worth, I'll be among the first to complain if Scott does a lot of Lucas-esque tinkering on the forthcoming Blade Runner disc and does not include the other cuts we have come to know and love. (I have heard that he may not be able to put them all out, due to, you guessed it, the studio.)

Finally, it's also worthwhile to note that I've never heard Scott -- or, more accurately, the studio -- market any version of Blade Runner as "the last time this version will ever be made available", which strikes me about as crappy as a thing to do as when Disney does in terrifying children they'll never be able to see Snow White again, or whatever. The difference is Disney does it to children (worse) but commits to bringing the film back in the future. Lucas, so far, has not shown any indication he will relent.
