The Buffy The Vampire Slayer SPOILER-TAGGED thread (SPOILERS)

I wanted to make a spoiler-tagged thread. I'm watching it all in order and people keep insisting on posting without spoiler tags in the other one. Cling can we keep them separate?

Just saw Halloween...
Spoiler:
I was just speechless. The second season is MUCH darker than the first! I don't like the monster episodes - the praying manthis, the Inca princess, the reptile boy - I prefer when it sticks to vampires... and I love Spike! That confrontation between him and Angel was one of the best TV scenes I've ever seen.

So Giles is Jack the Ripper?!?!?!?! Where did THAT come from? Is it me or does EVERYONE play their roles well? The main characters are VERY well cast. ALL of them.

What a season.

This is not a spoiler so I'm not putting spoiler codes around it. Deb, Giles is *not* Jack the Ripper. His nickname from his youth was "Ripper"...no Jack about it. Why did you think he was Jack the Ripper?

No, Giles is not Jack the Ripper.

Giles is John Constantine. (I know some folks here know what I'm talking about.)

If you search in TVTalk there were like 5 huge threads going on at the same time with discussions on just about every episode of Buffy.

Halloween is such a great ep! One of the funniest things about the ep for me is when ghost Willow walks through the wall of the library and you get that shot of Giles, who is almost literally jumping out of his skin.

One of the (many) great things about the show through the first few seasons is the way they don't give you all the details about a character's past until they want to. In Halloween, you're clued in that Giles does indeed have a past that's not like what you would think. It's awesome that they leave it up in the air till future eps and not just cram it in with some silly throw away one-liners.

I couldn't believe the level of acting this show had even early on. David Boreanaz (Angel) was a little rough in some spots, but really came on as the series progressed. Besides, with DB, I don't think it was about his acting. Unfortunately, I think the show changes casting directors after the third season, because since then, the show's had some really terrible people in some roles.

I'm not sure what you expected about a general discussion for a show that's been on for seven+ years. From what I read (and I know some things about the show), there weren't any important spoilers about the show that were revealed.

I'm hesitant to keep this thread open in addition to the other general discussion thread, but I'd be happy to hear suggestions as to why people think this one should remain separate. Eventually, the repeats will cycle back to the very first episode, and we'll probably have people who are new to the show checking in again... how do we prevent them from getting spoiled? Do we post everything in here in spoiler tags?

I'm gonna do some thinking, but let me know your ideas, everyone.

What we did with Babylon 5 was the "Spoilers Up To Sci-Fi Airings" threads. Every 3 months or so, we started a new thread. You had to tag anything that hadn't aired on Sci-Fi up to the current date. It worked pretty well for the first 3 iterations. This doesn't work for people watching DVDs, but I have to agree with you. There comes a point where the Johnny-come-lately's have to suck it up and realize they're years behind the crowd. Sooner or later you're going to find out the significance pf "Rosebud" whether you see Citizen Kane or not.

Anyway, my suggestion would be to have an FX thread that follows the show on FX's schedule and tags anything that hasn't aired on FX yet (in the current run). Any other discussions could have separate threads just for those episodes. Considering the lack of volume over the summer, it wouldn't bother me for individual episodes to have their own threads, so long as the latecomers understand that vets aren't going to want to discuss every single episode that aired 5 years ago. An FX thread and some threads for pivotal episodes would probably best serve all parties.

Tough noogies. Every starts somewhere, and to ask that that planet be put on hold is just too much out of the ordinary.

Ok, I too am hooked on this show thanks to the DVDs....

Now for everyone who is finishing up (or finished) season 2, season 3 is starting on FX on July 15. That's right, I won't have to wait until this winter to continue watching! I'm planning on watching the show on FX, taping season 7 on UPN when it begins, and watching those episodes when FX finishes up season 6.

Cling: How about ALL spoilers in spoiler tags?

Why can't there be a spoiler button like there is for italics, bold, large font, links, etc? It shouldn't pose a problem to implement. That'd make it easier for the masses to spoiler-tag their posts

It is my understanding that FX will not show season 6, which is now rerunning on UPN.

This show has been out for years, and every episode has been aired. When you're talking about seasons 1-7 (7's the most recent season, right?), there are no spoilers, as far as I'm concerned... just episodes and plot points that certain people haven't seen. What you might consider a spoiler is past history for someone who's been watching Buffy for a while... and what someone who picks up Buffy the next time the reruns cycle back to the first episode might consider a spoiler would be past history for you.

I'm going to close this thread, because I just don't see enough reason to have a thread just for people who recently picked up Buffy and are at the same point in the show's progression as you are. However, I could be convinced to reopen it... drop me an e-mail with a convincing argument, and I'll think about it.
