Why is it becoming a regular on "American Movie Classics"? When did it become a classic?

Well I guess I can kinda understand the "New Classics" thing but I don't know. I can't figure out this choice.

AMC is really starting to stretch it with what they show lately. I mean, Dreamscape is a great film and all... but it just simply doesn't belong on AMC. Plus that commercial break that they stick into the middle of the films now is damn annoying.
I don't understand why channels that have a cool concept begin to abandon it and become just like every other channel. MTV doesn't show music videos much any more. AMC is starting to show quite a few "regular" or "modern" films.
I suppose it's all economics and viewership, but I'd rather keep my classics on one channel and stuff like Enemy Mine, Class Action, China Moon (!), and Strange Invaders (!!) on another.
