Ok, which is it, Dave or Jay?

Everyone picks one or the other. You cannot like both, and will not like both as long as I am alive.

If you are a person who just goes with whoever has the better guests on, then don't vote, and consider yourself lucky I'm not at your house right now.

My pick in a landslide is Letterman.

When is the last time Leno said anything remotely funny?

tygloalex 06-06-02 01:45 AM

It's Conan. Both those two are pretty lame. But If I had to had to had to pick one, it would be Letterman.

dancinns 06-06-02 02:33 AM

Letterman. I don't watch much late night TV but when I do it's always Letterman. I just love his brand of humor. The only thing I like on Leno is the headlines on Monday.

Keyser Soze 06-06-02 02:48 AM

Jay blows.

I like Letterman more....i just find his brand of humor much more entertaining.

Leno....i dont really hate the guy...its just when i can sit through and entire show without cracking a smile then there is a problem.

Same here.

I think if you're under 50 and live near a major city, you'd pick Letterman over Leno. Being grumpy makes for better tv :D

UWSarge 06-06-02 06:24 AM

I'm going to say Leno. That way I don't have to change stations for Conan. (Hey...I'm lazy! ;) )

wildcatlh 06-06-02 07:45 AM

Where's the option for "they both suck"?

Brian Shannon 06-06-02 08:02 AM

Everyone picks one or the other
I am proud to say I have never, ever seen either one of these shows

Static Cling 06-06-02 08:39 AM

Heh, I thought "Conan" before reading any of the posts, too. :)

But, in this poll, I vote Dave.

KitchenSink 06-06-02 09:00 AM

Letterman varies from pretty good to kind of weak. I've really had enough of Rupert (and I don't watch that often).

Leno varies from mildly amusing (rare) to INCREDIBLY AWFUL (common).

Letterman by default.

TaTTooD 06-06-02 09:03 AM

chalk me up for another "woulda voted conan had to vote dave"

Geofferson 06-06-02 09:21 AM

Conan

Rico Diablo 06-06-02 09:29 AM

I voted for Dave, who has provided some absolutely brilliant television over the years.

But Conan is awesome. Conan is the new Dave.

Jason Northrup 06-06-02 09:45 AM

I've never really found conan to be very funny. Dave is definately the man. Following him I'll go for Jon Stewart and Craig Kilborn.

Surf Monkey 06-06-02 11:54 AM

Back when I was in high school I used to skip class to watch Dave's short lived morning show. Dave used to be cool, now he's pretty lame. Not nearly as lame as Jay Leno though. Dave got punked on that NBC deal. Jay is SO middle of the road that it's just painful to watch. He's designed for the mindless masses. If you think he's funny you need help.

Boot 06-06-02 01:34 PM

Of the two, Letterman is better, but neither can hold a candle to Conan.

Eternia 06-06-02 02:54 PM

I am one of the few who votes for Jay. I hate Letterman. I just do. I can't stand him and Paul. And if you think I need help, no you do. :) You are a drone following the "Letterman is God. Letterman should be the host of the Tonight Show. I can't get over it. AHHHH!" :P

I would pick Conan over Jay. But still Leno over Letterman. I can probably stomach that dude that comes on after Letterman more than Letterman himself.

caiman 06-06-02 02:55 PM

I voted for Letterman, simply because he isn't Leno. Conan would have been my pick had he been on the poll. His wit, self-depricating humor, and brilliantly timed and executed spur of the moment jokes make him infinitely better than David or Jay. Not to mention that Conan has the best writers on late night TV. I mean seriously, what other show would have the balls to have a character named Camel Toe Annie?

No show at airs at 11:30 EST/10:30 CST, that's for sure. A lot of what is being said about Conan now could have been said about Dave before the move to CBS.

Whether we want to admit it or not, a show like Conan's (or Letterman in the Late Night days) won't find itself airing at 10:30 CST.

As for Leno, he's beyond hope. You have to have wit to pull off comedy and he doesn't have it.

yup.

I thought this was a poll between Dave and Jay, not a "say conan so you can think you're cool or something." anyway..

Letterman is much better than Leno. Both of their monologues are pretty weak, but Letterman is a better, more natural comedic talent. Leno has to try to be funny(and usually fails), Letterman just is. Letterman also has better gimmicks like "Is this anything?" and "Will it float?" and my personal favorite, "Beat the clock."

Oh, and yes Conan is better than both of them, but that's because he's on at 12:30 and is allowed to do things letterman and leno can't. Although I don't think Leno would be any funnier at 12:30, he'd just talk about sex and say "ass" a bit more.

Charlie Goose 06-06-02 05:03 PM

Although I don't watch him as much as I used to, I prefer Dave by a large margin.

However, there is one thing Dave does that has annoyed me for years. It's when he comes onstage for the opening monologue and his first joke refers to something about someone in the studio audience that was said or revealed before taping began. So, the 300 audience members have a good laugh, while the millions of people watching television don't have the slightest idea what the hell he is talking about.
