How is it Fox got rights over CBS shows?
I am talking about old shows. I am not exactly sure how many, but so far I see MASH and Mary Tyler Moore are coming on DVD from FOX home video. Not that I mind, as Fox does an awesome job on their season sets, but I just am wondering why didn't these come from Paramount, as Viacom owns CBS and Viacom is affiliated with Paramount, TTBOMK.

In the 80's and 90's many things from CBS and/or FOX were released on "CBS/FOX" Home Video. (Somehow they had some sort of agreement). And while the show M*A*S*H may have aired on CBS, the production company was FOX. I remember people not understanding why the 30th Anniversary show was on FOX -- this is the reason.
A Show like Friends comes out through WB (the production company) not CBS. I guess FOX is the only production company that also has its own network. If you watch the end credits of other ABC, NBC, CBS and perhaps UPN and WB, you will find FOX as some shows production company.

He hit it right on the head. It is the production studio that brings out the season box sets. You will find 20th Century Fox shows on pretty much all the channels. Example: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (WB, UPN).
