Fox 5-26

Hello! I have been a lurker for awhile, and now decided it was time to actually join in the discussions.

What is the deal with Fox's 5 hour prime time car racing block tonight? Was this a special race or were they out of decent re-runs?

Same old Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, in the evening to give someone time to fly in from the Indy 500, 600 mile race in Charlotte as every other year. Can't remember what network it was on last year. Probably Fox as well.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to Summer. Brace yourself for plenty of not-so-compelling television in the coming months.

Y2K Falcon, you mean Tony Stewart? The man's insane for doing that. How a driver focuses his mind and body for one race amazes me, but two races in the same day? It's both impressive and frightening at the same time.

Robby Gordon today...

Of course, they said he used to drive Baja 1000's, which is like doing both races on a dirt road...

There aren't many evening races.... and I don't think there's another one until July 4th weekend (Pepsi 400 from Daytona), and by then the coverage moves to NBC.

In 1992, lights were added at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. In 1993, the start time for the race was moved from 12 PM to 530 PM so as to not conflict with the Indianapolis 500 (so fans could watch both). It wasnt until 1994 that a driver (John Andretti) attempted to run both in the same day...so the start time was not moved for this to happen, but this has been an interesting side effect of that decision.

I really dont know how FOX could have destroyed your Sunday lineup. I mean, did you want to watch reruns of The Simpsons and The X-Files? Whoop-de-doo.

The only other night race on network TV will be the Pepsi 400 on FOX (NBC had the 500 this year, so FOX gets the 400). For some reason every other sport has its all-star game on network TV, but FOX is scared to show the all-star race on a Saturday night.
