great show. like almost everything except the lauren/goober thing. i think they are setting it up for next season but the dialog seemed a little contrived.

Pretty much the episode was what I expected it to be. I had a feeling all along he would not die. It was pretty prosaic, IMO, but still good television.
Why did the hook lady show up in the opening credits but she wasn't even in the episode? Personally, I am disappointed that they never made good on her promise to do something evil to Goober.
And for Goober and Lauren, all I have to say is that Goober is one lucky SOB! Just as long as those bedroom scenes remain off camera!

Man... I couldn't stop laughing when she asked him to sleep with her.. I mean, c'mon.. I'm not going to say that would never happen in real life, but to a guy you accused of sexual harassment only a year ago?
Anyway, I thought it was going to be a clips show at first when they showed the flashback, thank goodness that was limited. Other than that, I thought it was good. At least it didn't seem obvious whether he would live or die during the episode.

that was the best finale i have seen so far this year, but they could have done without another cheesy guber subplot

Singing was in more of an inappropriate place than usual, but kept to a minimum.
Danny Hanson had nothing in this episode!
I knew Ronni and Senate were gonna eventually hook-up, and that it can so quickly bowled me over. I agree that this was the best season ender episode I've seen so far.

I'm sure glad Senate didn't die. I'd hate to have to stop watching the show because they killed off the best character. Lauren asking Goober to sleep with her was the most unrealistic line I've ever heard, but it was hilarious. I was hoping he'd faint again.

Yes, a strong finale for the season!
But.... a jaw-dropping line of doctor dialogue that should make David Kelly hang his head in shame:
"If he survives the night, we'll be more optimistic."
....as if there might be some reason for optimism if he doesn't survive the night!

That Davis/Guber thing felt like it came out of nowhere. Made me laugh, though.
I was kinda of irritated that most of the "loose ends" were never addressed. Graduation? Brooke? Poor girl Ronnie likes? Memorial for kids killed in car crash? Jamaal and his brother? In theory, it would be very hard to start off next fall ignoring all of those storylines, but it would mess up the timing, starting right after Harry's recovery.
Oh well...good finale.

very good season finale. thank god they didn't kill off harry. the show is strong, but without him it would lose alot. the lauren/scott thing was totally setup on the show w/ the b-day party for harry, but it was extremely funny, nonetheless. i think we all knew that the ronnie/harry hookup was going to happen sometime, it was just a matter of when.

Did anyone catch this? Was the actor playing the brother's lawyer when Ronnie was on the stand testifying the same guy who played Claire's guidance counselor on Six Feet Under? It sure looked like him!

I'm surprised so many people are drooling over this finale. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed it - but it wasn't anything special. It was a little high in the cheese and melodrama departments. I am happy DEK didn't do something lame like have him recover just to die 5 minutes later. If this were The Practice, he'd agree to go out with Ronnie, she'd walk out of the room, and then he'd flatline. Anyway, I enjoyed watching it, but it certainly wasn't the best finale so far this season and probably not the best Boston Public episode of the season either.
I guess I'm going to have to decide whether I'll keep watching this show next season. I've seen every episode, and I really enjoy the characters, but it's so contrived and repetitive that I suspect next season will be rehash of what we've already seen.

I find it highly amusing how Lauren has gone full circle with her feelings on Guber. In the first season, Guber was stalking her, and it almost got to the point of sexual harrassment. It was creepy then. Then Lauren spends most of the season with Senate until finally Senate's inability to let anyone in sabotages the relationship.
This season, after Guber's fling with Jeremy's mom, in the Senate birthday party episode, Guber and Lauren suddenly find this "mutual respect" thing and now Lauren is not creeped out by a relationship with Guber. Yeah, men write this show...
The season finale was okay, Chi McBride was a crying fool. While I guess I'm fine with Senate living, he may have exhausted his storylines if he continues on his death wish ways. At the start of the season, it seemed that Danny and Ronnie were destine to hook up, but that got sidetracked, and Danny such a goob anyway, no shades of grey with him. Ronnie's probably attracted to complicated guy with a good heart, so Senate fits the bill.

I am also surprised to see so many glowing reviews myself. I stand by my initial review of "prosaic." While better than most stuff on TV, I still don't think it was the best Boston Public.
Anybody know if the hook lady will return next year?
And which students were in the senior class and will not return next year?

I enjoyed the episode. I'm glad they didn't leave Senate on his deathbed as a cliffhanger. It would have been nice though if they could have devoted the show to tieing up some loose ends like the hook lady and some of the students. Maybe they'll carry them into next season. I was surprised the hook lady didn't appear during their crisis.
I agree that Harper cried too much. I never felt he was THAT close with Senate.
I guess the logic of Guber and Lauren getting together is that she is vulerable now what with all the negative comments made about her including at the party right before she and Guber talked in the bathroom. I laughed out loud when Lauren asked him to sleep with her. Way to go Guber!!!!
As usual Harvey got the good lines. The humor came at good times to break up the seriousness of the episode.

Finally was able to watch this [thanks to HawgSmacker]. I forgot to set the VCR last nite so my only hope was to d/l it.
My girlfriend thought the same thing -- that he was going to die alone. I'm surprised Kelley didn't do this.
IIRC, they set up on the first season that they were good friends.
And -- YES yet ANOTHER musical montage. My girlfriend said she's surprised that Vonda Shepard isn't on the show. I told her to give it time -- Alley was just cancelled.

the reason they didn't leave it as a cliffhanger is because they always open a new season just as a new school year opens. if they would've left it as a cliffhanger, then they would've had to cross 3 months of summer in 1 episode.

I liked this episode also... I liked Harry's lines at the end when he wakes up.
"Not another birthday party!"
And when the doctor tells him to just pick one person and the rest have to leave.. "Dana Pool isn't around is she?"
I agree the Lauren and Goober thing came outta no where, and when she told him, "nevermind" I thought that'd be it.. who knows where that'll end up going..
Harvey definately had some good lines. He said that whole thing in Hebrew, and Harper sat there and at the end asked him what he said, "I told him why I wasn't wearing the shirt."

OK, maybe I was reading way too much into the last few moments, but the ending seemed to convey not quite what was happening. As Ronnie walked out, Harry had a sort of grimace. My biggest fear is we will start next season, only to find out Harry DID die after she left. Like I said, I am probably reading too much into it.
