Wow...what an episode!
I knew it was only a matter of time before Nate and Brenda's relationship erupted, but I didn't see this coming. There was also a touching Rico sub-plot in this one, which was very nice to see. It was also nice to see Claire happy...it will be interesting to see what happens between her and Billy.
Funniest bit on tonight's episode was when Keith heard the news about his shooting and was thinking what the cop might say. I forgot what it was exactly, but I remember it was hilarious.
Late.

Wow - an incredible episode, maybe the best yet.
The whole last ten minutes or so reminded me so much of the paper bag scene in American Beauty. The music was probably similar, which helped, but it was the whole idea of getting out of bad relationships, and into (perhaps) better new ones. With Nate out and mom out... and then I would expect, the idea of Nate getting together with his baby momma (can't remember her name, but the Lili Taylor character)... although my guess is that that relationship won't really happen, it's still a possibility. And we know that Nate's mom and the Lili Taylor character's personalities certainly work well together.
The whole episode was great, especially that last whole sequence. So much is flipped around now, with Claire being happy, Brenda having gone off the deep end, but her brother (and her parents) being seemingly sane and happy. And Rico's now got some of the money he's always needing... so much is changing - this seemed like the season finale - but I expect that's next week, right? I never, never stick around for the previews.

Good stuff, I felt like I was watching a real couple when Nate figured out Brenda's writing.
the scenes between Rico and Poppa Fisher were some of my favorite on the show yet, I wanted more of that back story.

Spoiler:
Great info on Kroner! I hope we get to see Mitzi one last time.
Are Kieth's anger-managment issues going to have him with internal affairs in successive cases from now on? YEESH!?
I don't know about Lisa and Ruth's relationship. Ruth may try to push Nate back to her, but I doubt it. Right now, Ruth needed someone to be a Mom to. Someone to suffocate. Mya is the PERFECT answer. Babies need all that attention and Ruth has nothing BUT attention she wants to give. No doubt Lisa will need any available help caring for Mya as a single, working mother. I hope this works out for Ruth for a while. The poor woman deserves a break and a chance to be happy - however briefly.
I knew the Brenda/Nate split was gonna be a doozy but WHOA!
They threw the doors wide open for that shitstorm! Great stuff was said - I wonder if either heard the other they were each so dripping with drool to get another chance to lash out at the other."Well... BARF!"

No pun, but I'm really going to mourn this show when
it's over. I hope it doesn't take as long as "The Sopranos"
for it's next season.
And yes, last night's show (5/20) was superb.
BTW, has anyone not commented on how hot Joanna Cassidy
is? Especially for a woman her age. Damn, she looks great!

The Nate Sr. and Rico stuff was handled excellently it drew you into a direction without heavy hamhanded techniques, Rico was totally believable as a teen. The quality of it just made me want to see a little more.
Nate and Brenda made me want to leave the room or help during that scene
Not to mention all the other good side stuff,
So does Ruth own the flower shop now or what? At least a chunk of it in my eyes..... 87,000 worth

Yeah, no doubt... on a related note, I seem to recall that Season 2 was shot many, many months back... and wrapped before the Murdering by the Numbers and Blade II hit theaters. So do you think they went back recently and shot those scenes to have current, appropriate films being used, or do you think those audio clips were perhaps supplied in advance for 6 Feet Under to be able to use them? Or maybe I'm just off on when they shot, and it did so happen that they were still shooting in April - it just seems pretty late to me.
And another comment on the Nate / Brenda breakup scene... we all knew it was coming sooner or later, but I can't imagine it executed any better than that. Brilliant, just brilliant television.

This episode was so good that I watched it again after work yesterday.
It does surprise me that Billy is turning the corner on his self-centered-ness. I do see Billy and Claire hooking up next season when she's in college.
The scenes between Rico and Mr. Fisher were just plain great, the big smile on Rico's face says it all as to his feelings towards Mr. Fisher. I'd like to go back to the early season 1 episode and watch Rico's reaction to Mr. Fisher's death, basically his second father to die on him.
What the hell did Vanessa make for the old lady who left them the huge chunk of change? It must have been tasty!
Loved Nikolai's reaction when Ruth breaks up with him: "okay". Bwah-hahaha!

Jesus christ...
That may very well be one of the best episode of a television show I have ever seen.
Not most entertaining, maybe(mr. show wins there). But, that was like, better than most movies. Better than a lot of movies...
Jeez...
In a state of sensationalist awe

I thought the Rico/Nate Sr. flashbacks were the best of the series by far. I love what they've done with his character this season and the $$ he inherited should cement his standing as a future partner. Unless he thinks he shoudl go it alone ....
The look on Nate's face when he put it together regarding Brenda was fantastic. Likewise, Brenda's whiny looks when battling with him were perfect...she's so self-defeating it's as though she wants the conatsnt negativity/conflict in her life. I cannot remember the last time she smiled...truly beamed in an episode.
**Oh, and I think HBO is airing a WTC tribute, In Memorium, in the Sunday timeslot this week which is why the finale is pushed back to June 2nd.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the funniest line on the show?
When Claire told Ruth she was going to get her hair cut off
like Felicity. And Ruth asked Claire if she's met her? To which
Claire responds "Yes, she was over here for dinner once".
To damn funny.
And rfduncan, I don't think Ruth is trying to suffocate anyone.
She's just looking for *some* attention (and affection).
Everyone ignores this poor woman. It's such a sad
character and situation.
