The expression "fifth wheel" is perfect for this show.

Every time I watch it there is one guest who is total dead weight. Make it Dinner For Four, I say.

I loved the episode with Jay Mohr and Tim Olyphant but the best part had to be David Milch's story..."I don't care if he promises to get hit by a fucking bus!"

Haven't watched one in a while, but it usually is a very interesting show. I must keep an eye on the IFC schedule.

Milch, on his Yale frat brother, George W. Bush: [genuinely] "He was a million laughs".

Here's a typical exchange:
Favreau: "Where's [your nanny] from?"
Milch: "She's undocumented..."
Mohr: "Ha ha ha! That's funny! You should write!"

Before I quit, I used to think I was a chain-smoker until I saw this show. Damn those Hollywood types can suck down a pack of Marlboros like no one's business.

Love the show, I just always seem to miss it somehow or another.

I've never heard of this show until I saw a topic about it at AICN, but this sounds like an interesting thing if it's all these people sitting around and talking. Thought you guys might be interested.

btw it comes on IFC tonight (6/17/05).

John Favreau (Swingers fame) used to host the dinners. With the right people, it's a good show. This one should be good.

Yeah right? I thought he CREATED this show. Odd combination of people considering last season they all were somehow related to one another in a "six degrees of separation" way.

From IFC's website:
Original IFC Series. Actor/filmmaker Jon Favreau welcomes guest host Kevin Smith, along with Jason Lee, Stan Lee, Mark Hamill, J.J. Abrams for a wild, unedited dinner conversation.
So he seems to still be the "host" - Kevin Smith is "guest hosting". Cool.

I'm pretty sure Favreau is back next week to regular duties. I know Kevin Smith has been in a movie or two with both Lees and Hamill.

J.J. Abrams created Alias
Alias stars Jennifer Garner
Jennifer Garner is knocked up by Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck starred in several Kevin Smith movies

J.J. -> Kevin in 3 degrees

You have IFC and you've never heard of the show? That's a shame. It's always good imo. The seasons are kinda sporadic, but IFC runs the reruns all the time. AICN usually posts about an episode if it's especially geeky and they've actually posted about this particular episode already a couple times because there was some confusion about when it aired.

I hadn't watched it in awhile, so I wasn't sure if John was still the host. I'm down with Kevin hosting. I wonder if he'll dominate the conversation? He can tell stories for days.

Smith and Abrams both wrote discarded Superman scripts. Does that count as a closer connection?

The only thing closer would be if you had pictures of them French kissing.

Well, I guess once they appear on this episode together, that would be a close connection as well. Maybe it will lead to some hot man-on-man action?

It's like 550 on DTV, I think. Kind of a shame, it's included in Total Choice, but they hide it way up there after all the pay movie channels. There are a lot of good movies on it, though they repeat them quite a bit.
