The Shield - 4/16/02

Liked it. The writing is definitely tighter, and I like how each of the characters is slowly becoming more than just "the new guy" or "the bad guy" or "the rat" etc. I'm not sure I like the way they have Mackey dealing with his women. But then I guess it's too easy to like him if he's a good guy everywhere but some of his dirty cop stuff. The way they have him now is really challenging to the audience, and I can get on board with that.

Mackey's getting it from every corner. I mean seriously, didn't you think he was going to start up with the dispatcher? Lesse, he's got a wife, a prostitute, the other cop, any others?

I am surprised Dutch Boy was nice enough not to bring up Mackey either when he yelled at that cop in the station or at her house that night. He did see the whole thing.

Seemed kinda surprising that Mackey wouldn't make an issue about the FBI guy hanging around the office. The agent obviously knew his stuff, but it seemed pretty awkward for such a temporary type of case -- being called in so early and whatnot.

I did like the episode but had a hard time accepting the premise that Acevedo would allow his entire unit to be wrapped up in a single investigation for 24 hours.

That whole storyline with the suspect and his practical-joking friend was twisted too, but you just knew it couldn't have been that easy for Dutch Boy. He's so wrapped up in his booksmarts about tracking seria killers he's convinced that every guy in that interview room will cave and confess as a result of his tactics.

I don't necessarily think he was being nice. I got the impression that Mackey didn't get there immediately after Dutch Boy left, so there was plenty of time for Dutch Boy to be gone. I thought Dutch Boy was exhibiting a little stalker behavior, and he probably wouldn't want to let that get out.

At first I was thinking that Mackey would be someone who had little regard for rules and human life except when it comes to women and children. Now I think it's just children. In last night's episode it seemed like it wasn't until she began screaming about her son that Mackey came up with the plan. He hesitated hitting her so I don't know if it's a turning point in how he treats women, or if it's something that's been repressed.
Overall it was my favorite episode. Continuing storyline, Dutchboy becoming more human, Sofer beginning to realize something's wrong and she's not always right. Some disturbing stuff, some funny stuff but not so much as to take away from the serious story.

BTW, does anyone know if the character of Schmidt was played by the lead singer of Buckcherry?

Temporary? It's a serial killer case, the case has been going on for a while now so I wouldn't call it early. But I did think Mackey would have fits having an outsider, and a Fed at that, around the barn.

The character Dutch seems to be classier than Mackey, also it would ruin any chancce of him scoring with her. Not surprising here, he didn,t interfer with Mackey, no problemthere and Dutch is trying to make a name, any chance to let the law enforcement community aware of him he will jump at it.
